Two Russian Indigenous Siberians were so scared of having to fight the war in Ukraine, they chanced everything to take a small boat across the treacherous Bering Sea to reach American soil, Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski said after talking with the two.

Obtaining citizenship is not automatic and veterans who do not complete the process are discharged with their resident alien status and remain non-U.S. citizens.

If there is someone who knows a thing about hard work and determination, it’s 2nd Lt. Valdeta Mehanja, a pilot with the 1-131st Aviation Regiment. Mehanja is an Albanian native born in Kosovo and a US citizen; she never thought she would get to see Albania.

The American Immigration Council will honor U.S. Army Commissioned Officer Valdeta Mehanja with its American Heritage Award, which recognizes the talents, contributions, and accomplishments of immigrants and their advocates.

Spc. Abhinav Johri immigrated to the United States from India on a Student Visa to earn his master's degree in Mathematics. While pursuing his studies he felt the need to serve in the Army Reserve and attempted to enlist several times. It took Johri more than 2 years, to achieve his goal, to enlist in the military and be able serve in a position where his skills will be utilized to the maximum.
