Hesitantly, Genesis took the pack from him, flipping it over in her hands as if she’d never held one before. “yeah, cause the books are usually better than the movie, so they complain about the movies, so why would you do a book based on a movie!? why don’t we just make a documentary then? since they could watch it, become obsessed with you, and then come see them in real life? plus we’d get hella rich, or richer.” sofia grinned, shaking her head at just how easy it was to please him before raising her arm to meet his palm. “you’re such a loser. so, do you want to go get a beer to celebrate your success of taking the first step into a healthy, non-smoking lifestyle?”
“ i don’t know like i said, some people are crazy. i’m sure it’s happened at some point with some movie. documentaries are lame though, i don’t want one. unless it’s like a biopic or something and i don’t actually have to be in it. but hey—as long as i’m going to end up rich and the experience allows me to meet my future wife, i’ll be happy no matter what. ” matty nodded, a satisfied smile forming on his face after she’d accepted the high five. “ absolutely. we’ll celebrate my new healthy lifestyle by drinking our livers to shit. it makes perfect sense. ”

“ uh, sure, dude, ” rylan said with a nod. “ is in’t like known that quitting cold turkey is the hardest possible way to quit anything ?? ”
“ it’s pretty known, but—i’m a simple man who likes a challenge. and this way i can prove to people that i am indeed the strongest man alive or something like that, i dunno. ” he kind of lost his train of though, muttering the words as he handed the pack over.

Lucky simply responded with an expressionless nod, holding his hand out to take the packet from him. Dropping the butt of his own cigarette to the ground he mirrored the other and crushed it underfoot, twisting his heel for good measure. Though he’d dropped most of his vices years ago, smoking was not something he was prepared to leave behind. “Cold turkey’s rough.” He shrugged plainly. “You give me that pack and I’m gonna smoke ‘em. So no chance you’d see it again.”
“ hey, thanks man, ” matty said, smile gracing his lips. he was quick to slide the pack into the other’s hand, his own returning to his pockets immediately afterwards. “ it’s the hardest way, but also the most satisfying if you succeed. so—that’s kind of what i’m hoping for. please, though, smoke ‘em all. that’s even better ‘cause at least i know they didn’t go to waste or anything. ”

“yeah, ‘cause everyone would totally want a book based on a movie? why would they want to read about your muscles when they could just watch you on the big screen?” she rolled her eyes, he really didn’t think things through. “yeah, for real. alright then.” sofia lifted her shirt, holding it up for around five seconds before dropping it back down. “stay strong, buddy. you can do twenty four hours, i believe in you.”

teagan shrugged, she couldn’t remember where she read it, just knew that it apparently works, “I read it off somewhere, but I can’t quite remember where. I’m really sorry.” she frowned, still trying to think where she could’ve read it, her fingers beginning to tap anxiously against one another as she crossed her arms to try and stop it. eventually letting the thought go, her eyes dropped to the ground in front of the other, “Well for the rest of today, as it seems you’ve already lost the whole quit for today part.” she said, referencing to the cigarette butt that he crushed, avoiding the rest of what he said.
matty did his best to hold her gaze but it was difficult considering how she seemed a lot more interested on the ground. “ sorry for what ?? that’s just your canadian blood talking. it doesn’t matter where you read it, don’t worry. i believe you, ” he let out a chuckle, lips pressing together in a smile. clicking his tongue, he pointed an index finger in her direction and nodded his head slowly. “ you got me there. see—you’re already keeping me on track. keeping me on toes. you’re perfect for the job. ”

“ nah man, you’re the BEST person to be hanging around, ” he disagreed, shaking his head slowly as he stuffed his hands into his pockets. “ ‘cause now i can just give ‘em all to you instead. then i don’t feel bad for wasting them, right ?? ” his brows rose and with a shrug, he leaned back against the wall behind him. “ anyway, it doesn’t matter. i’ll probably give up and have to start all over again tomorrow. ”

rolling her eyes, she took the pack from his hands. “whine and bitch to someone who cares.” she replied, tapping her finger against the box. “here, i’ve got a better idea–” she began, moving towards the trashcan on the corner of the street. tossing the pack in the garbage, she turned on her heel back to matty. “all fixed! you’re welcome!”
despite how harsh her words seemed, matty couldn’t stop himself from cracking a smile anyway. “ aw, violet i knew you cared all along !! ” he gave her arm a playful nudge, as if she were actually being helpful rather than just trying to spite him. “ thanks to you, i’m one step closer to quitting my disgusting habit and being a healthier person. ”

“like what, huh? gimme an example. if you say so. well, because if i want to be an author then i need inspiration in order to write a book that ain’t a piece of shit, you know? i know, that was kind of what i had in mind. but, i guess you’d have to be wanting cigarettes in order for me to actually do it.”
“ like uh, i dunno. hockey plays, the economy ?? stuff like that. ” he lifted his shoulders in a shrug of nonchalance. “ oh so i’m your big inspiration, huh ?? just make sure when you write me into your book you describe how big by muscles are so people get a good idea of the real me. kind of or exactly ?? is the truth better than boobs ?? this is going to make it harder for me because now i want a cigarette AND i want to see your boobs. ”

matty always made her nervous, just because his compliments were almost constant. they weren’t creepy, kind if anything, but she was never sure of how to react to them. they just made her shy and blush, which she could feel she was doing now. glancing back at the ground where his discarded cigarette butt lay, she gave a half hearted attempt to hide her burning cheeks. “i-i’m really not, but i’m glad you’re kind enough to th-think so.” her stutter only got worse when she was flustered, which she hated. she wished the ground would swallow her up whole instead of making her a bumbling and absolute mess.
it was so difficult to keep his thoughts to himself when brynn was so cute and it made his heart flutter when he saw her cheeks flush. “ i’m pretty sure you are, brynn. unless you’re calling me a liar or something but that can’t be right. since, you know, you’re so angelic and everything. ” part of him felt bad for pushing it further but god dammit, seeing her all flustered like that make him weak in the knees. truthfully, he was just as nervous but unlike her, he had the ability to hide it.
