“Ice cream is very sacred to me, it’s my lifeblood. I think Mom had an affair with Ben or Jerry because I definitely can’t be -- HEY! Watch it, don’t make me hurt you.”

Well duh, that’s exactly what a genius would do. You can’t go around parading all your cards at once, you have to save a little something something for the second act. I can link you to an online booking for an eye test then. You’re right, it’s going to be classic Smallville only he’s growing up in an apartment and not a rustic yet endearing farm. Should I buy more plaid? Make the place feel more farm-y? You’re a cruel mistress, Mickey K. Did… I’m sorry, did you just call me a “butt sniffer”? If I knew that we were going to be stooping to this sort of language, I would have brought a mud pie to fight back with.

Is it, though? I mean, sure, you can’t parade them all, but you could parade at least one, and so far, you’re coming up very short. I’ll have you know that these eyes see perfectly, I think you need the eye test if you’re looking in the mirror and coming out of that with the conclusion that you’re handsome. Buy more plaid but also, buy a farm. You only live once and all that nonsense. I can be a very cruel mistress, but that’s once appropriate boundaries and safe words have been set. I did, if the shoe fits, McFarlane. Maybe you should just stop being such a dumb bum and I’ll stop picking on you.

Ouch. You never know, I could be harbouring my genius plans underneath all the empty boxes of Pop Tarts around the house. These good looks and boyish charm could all just be a rouse, McKinley. [ laughs ] Well, I won’t argue with you there. Maybe he actually landed here from Krypton or something and I was just chosen on accident to look after him. You take that back immediately! I can’t have my good name dragged through the dirt by these “real adult” rumours. Hey, now you’re just trying to make me blush.

Geez, you’re definitely hiding it well then, if there’s supposed to be genius somewhere in that house. Wait, which good looks? I’m still searching for those. True, your son could be Superman, and we’re probably only going to find out when he hits his teen years and starts saving the world. I will never take it back, if it hurts your reputation, I’m going to keep spreading that rumour, buddy. Like anything embarrasses you, butt sniffer.  

… Okay, you can have that one because he is hauntingly smart and I’m pretty sure he’s started to mock me behind my back. Eventually I won’t be safe in my own home. He’ll insist we start having something like toast or cereal too even though some of us love glorified cake. And breakfast. Why break up a perfect duo, McKinley? Why break my heart like, every day?

I wonder where he got the smarts from because it’s definitely not you. And I’m not sure about his mom because she slept with you in the first place, so she was clearly missing something. Oh no, does that mean there will soon come a day when , heaven forbid, Danny McFarlane has to be a quasi-adult? No no, what am I even saying? That will never happen. Because, dear Daniel, I live to break your heart. It’s what I get out of bed for.

Andie laughed nervously before giving her cousin a shrug. “I just—Never really was interested in it, I guess? It’s not like I haven’t tried, but I— Never mind. Anyway, Krissy says you guys might go dancing, huh?”

McKinley just raised her eyebrows but she opted to drop the subject and move on, like her cousin clearly wanted. “Maybe,” she shrugged. “I mean, I think she needs to get out, meet some guys who aren’t Nico. And I could use a night of mindless fun. You in?”

Whatever ability to think straight Mike did have, diminished exponentially. He smirked, shifting in the place where he stood, moving closer. “It’s a little better, baby girl.” This was out loud. Enough so that a by stander could have heard him, enough so that it could have raised eyebrows. Mike’s vocabulary was turned on its head. He only knew forbidden in how it related to this. He only knew wrong in how much he wanted McKinley. Everything else was tuned out and far away, “Though, I mean,” Mike voice only lowered a bit. “I think it’s a little unfair you get to call me daddy in public and I can’t touch you without getting a look, don’t you? Like, It’s the kind of unfair bullshit that should warrant some sort consequence, don’t you think, baby girl?” He took a sip of his beer, “Hm, you—” His voice went back to its normal volume, Mike leaned back against the bar. “ I know, you are a cocktail kind of girl. You know, like a Manhattan or Dry Martini kind of thing. Am I right?”

McKinley knew that there was a part of her that enjoyed the power she seemed to have over Mike, that they were in public and treading on dangerous ground, yet neither of them seemed inclined to back off. “Just a little?” She turned her body to face him now, one arm still leaning on the bar as she regarded him. She wanted to walk away from this right now, to stop whatever it was that was happening – but she also knew she wouldn’t. That she was drawn to him as much as he seemed to be drawn to her. At his complaint, she couldn’t help but smirk, a shiver running down her spine, and she leaned in closer, her own voice lowering. “Oh? You want to spank me then?” she asked, raising an eyebrow. “Make my ass all red raw and so I can’t sit down tomorrow?” She licked her lips slowly. “I do love a cocktail, but not those ones per se. But, you offering to buy me one?” She leaned in again. “Because, you know, if you do… I’ll be a very good girl.”

Sighing happily as she kissed him, he leaned his head against her arm as she pulled him closer to her. “A teeth or two? Straight dudes don’t like to be flirted with. And I can’t never tell when a dude’s straight and when he’s not. Which is basically why I’m the worst at flirting.“

“I like Kinley.” Although Mike’s smile seemed unbothered by her warning look, he moved his hand away from her body. “Mr. Kingsley, though? Fucking killed me right now. I’m your friend, Kinley, you call me Mike. Nothing wrong with it.” If proximity and comfortableness weren’t enough of a hint to his relation to McKinley then Mike’s expression did the trick. Self-awareness was a skill he did not possess, or at very least, didn’t care enough to develop. “What do you like to drink anyway? You don’t look like a beer girl.”

It was risky enough – in a town this small – to be fucking around with another woman’s husband, but even more risky to be in a bar, so open about it. Not that they were being open per se, but if anyone were to overhear or get the wrong idea… it would be a disaster. “You don’t like Mr Kingsley?” she teased lightly, then leaned in to whisper. “What about daddy?” Pulling back, she drummed her fingers on the bar, acting as though she never leaned in and said anything. Time and time again, she asked why she played with fire, why she didn’t just walk away – but something about him always drew her in. “I don’t? What kind of girl do I look like then?” she asked, amused as she waited for his response.

“I– Yes. I don’t wanna talk about it, though.“ He said, shaking his head. Not that it hadn’t been nice, or whatever, it just felt embarassing to talk about his virginity like that, so openly. “Right. Not daddy enough.“ He repeated, shaking his head. God, he was kinda scared to imagine what type of dudes McKinley hung out with. “I’m not getting any signals, no. I’m just asking in general, because I’m just– Sometimes talking to someone, and I can’t tell if they’re giving me an opening or if I’m just making stuff up in my head.“

Sticking out his tongue at her, mirroring her gesture, he laughed. “Uhm, my V-card has been– Taken, thank you very much. And– Not to offend, you’re just not my type“ He started to explain, starting to regret bringing up the subject alltogether. “It’s just– How call you tell if someone’s interested? Like, all the people I’ve been with– Well, all two of them, they came to me very directly, I didn’t have to notice any subtext, but sometimes I’m just– So clueless. It’s the worst.“
