It… just kind of disappears. That’s the best way to put it. Here’s a wonderful and hopefully complete lists of significant moments that just… aren’t there and aren’t actually replaced with anything of equal value. I’m leaving out a few cute moments that establish Light and Sayu’s bond further, for brevity’s sake. I’m also leaving out the fact that Sayu and Sachiko have way more nuanced reactions to Misa in the manga since that is at least a negligible cut, haha.

1. This emotional clue-in is missing. It follow Light stating that he would see to it that Kira gets the death penalty if anything happened to Soichiro. Light avoiding Ryuk’s comment about acting suggests he was not acting and in fact was promising to his father that he would never hurt him.

2. Similar emotional clue-in on Light feeling unhappy with the way his family is affected. This follows Sayu stating that she hates Kira for keeping their dad away from home over the New Years holidays.

3. L calling suspicion onto Sayu and Light just absolutely losing his shit about it. We hardly see Light have these levels of reaction. Light is enraged that L would a) accuse his sister and b) upset his father that way. Because he loves them.
