Ok so look. I’ve seen a lot of (and by that I mean like two or three) people saying that Kris shambling around like a zombie after taking out the SOUL is an act they put on because they’re an edgelord or because they’re trying to scare us to feel some level of control.
While I definitely agree the Zombie Shuffle is an act, I can’t help but feel like these people aren’t getting the reasoning right.
To me, Kris does the zombie thing not to scare us, but to lull us into a false sense of security. We saw Kris shambling around in chapters 1 and 2 and collectively thought “Oh, Kris can’t move properly without the SOUL; that’s why they need us! They could literally die without us!”
Basically, I see the Zombie Shuffle as equivalent to a bird pretending its wing is broken. Kris isn’t trying to scare us; they’re trying to make us think that they’re less capable of doing things without us. By shambling around like a zombie, Kris is trying to make us underestimate them.
But come Chapters 3 + 4, we know that we absolutely should not underestimate them. If they have enough mobility without the SOUL to carry an unconscious Berdly to the hospital in the Weird Route and enough dexterity without the SOUL to play piano on the normal route, who knows how much they’re really capable of when we can’t see what they’re doing.
