A STARTER FOR @mayvis!
ai x changseok
itâs no secret that life in space is anything but boring.
at least thatâs the only consoling thought heâs had this morning after breakfast was but another grey lump of nutritions and vitamins dripping from his spoon. needless to say, it must be difficult for the chef to find something actually edible for the entirety of the crew   considering the variety aboard the hms vision, it strikes changseok as hardly a surprise their food is easily ingestible. besides, the is pretty sure heâs seen one of the veil crew members inhale their food with a look of disgust while writing a report for the commander, which was both fascinating and incredibly gross to bear witness to.
heâd like to have a discussion about their meals with the person responsible for maintaining food rations on board, if that pesky job wasnât his to do. that thought gets a small smile out of him, enough to have a passerby curiously raise an eyebrow but they remain quiet as changseok heads straight toward the engineering area of the ship.
another day, another mission. things should be running smoothly but instead, the selected ground crew for the day is already running into issues with one of the vehicles. as communications officer, itâs his duty to make sure that once a mission starts it isnât halted unnecessarily and right now, he canât help but think heâs not doing too stellar a job.
âwell, would you look at that.â the man stops in his tracks, vividly aware of a dozen pairs of eyes taking in his appearance the moment the doors of the elevator open to reveal him. clearing his throat awkwardly (sooner or later, he might want to get used to being the center of attention) he offers but a mere nod of his head before heading toward the damaged vehicle in question to get a report on the current situation.
âafraid itâs not looking too good, sir.â wiping away at his face with the sleeve of his shirt, changseok canât quite help an amused quirk of his lips once he notices the trail of oil left on the otherâs face. âkeep at it. i expect an update on the replacement vehicle stat.â
âweâre still waiting on the confirmation for the alliance IFV; the location for the pick-up was already transmitted. weâll give an update as soon as we can.â with that, the young officer turns back to his colleagues to focus on the work at hand while changseok clasps his hands together and turns back towards the waiting crew with a placid smile. heâs genuinely not sure how many of them he recognizes in person but then, their voices always happen to be a little more familiar with him. he supposes thatâs what you get for speaking too much over the intercom instead of looking for personal contact.
âso, gentlemen and ladies. the mission wonât proceed for the time being. please remain on standby for when the replacement IFV has been gathered,â gesturing towards the great digital clock hanging above the elevator doors with a pointed look, changseokâs smile doesnât fade the least bit. âit shouldnât take longer than ten to twenty minutes at most.â
oh boy. heâs already looking forward to having to explain all this to the captain again.
Space was everything more than Ai could ever dream of. With a flick of a switch and a direction, the crew would find themselves in a new planet waiting to be explored and studied. Ai could barely keep her feet still under the table at the thought of what new thing they would soon encounter and a smile thatâs far too happy to just be eating grey slop pulls at her lips. She couldnât help the excitement, especially after being cleared to go on a missionâ sheâs bursting.Â
Her happiness seeps out audibly, a giggle escaping her lips, and suddenly, sheâs feeling a new emotion entirely as she becomes conscious of her presence with a set of eyes glancing over to her. Time to go. She prompts herself to discard any remainders, fingers then moving to adjust her already styled fringe simply out of a need to keep her hands occupied as she walked out of the dining hall.
With clasped hands, she walks leisurely through the halls, meeting the eyes of others and offering a smile before a familiar face has her realizing that she really shouldnât be taking her sweet time. Sheâs rushing past, offering apologies for sudden movements and eventually making it with minutes to spare. A few words exchanged with the others waiting, a polite, but friendly smile remaining on her lips as another joins them. She watches carefully and resists the urge to shift her weight or cause her head to fall on a tilt.Â
A few words and she nods slowly, initial excitement now turned into disappointment with the news of their missionâs delay due to complications. She silently heaves a sigh, keeping her features passive when they were pretty much dismissed with a gesture to the clock and an eta. Ten minutes to spare, which apparently could turn into twentyâ thatâs too much time to spend mulling about and the thought makes her nervous.Â
For as long as she worked onboard the HMS Vision, Aiâs pretty much kept to herselfâ having little chance to interact with others despite interest and free time. She knew faces, names, and perhaps some information she really shouldnât, but she hasnât made many friends. She could take this chance to get to know more of the crew members... or she could just talk more about whatâs to come.Â
Approaching the communications officer (or Changseok, or well Yim, as she had come to know a long while ago), she offers a smile, âSirââ Should she be referring to him as such? They were colleagues, but as head of this group, it seemed more appropriate. âI want to assess our mission details further. We were briefed earlier, but seeing as weâve already hit one problemâ I wouldnât want more to cross our path that can potentially delay or potentially halt our ongoing task. This expedition is vital to discover a new plant genus which can lead to new species and substances, making it crucial that there are no more hiccups from here on out.âÂ
She finished with a curt nod, hoping heâd oblige and wouldnât have anything better to do while they waited for the replacement to arrive.
