I never want my compassion and my sense of right and wrong to have Terms And Conditions.

I never want to think “well, you’re apart of [X] group, so it’s okay if bad shit happens to you”.

People are just… so terrible to each other, both on Tumblr and in real life. And if I could do something to make people change, I would. I’d make them kinder and more forgiving and, importantly, I’d make them less dismissive of other people’s problems just because they’re not apart of the “right” group.

But I can’t do that. Not on a grand scale. Not in a way that truly matters.

The only thing I can do is control how I see people. I might fail sometimes, but I can look at all the apathy and vitriol and need for vengeance and say “No, I will not be like this. I will see everyone as human beings with the capability to love and grow. I will not demonize or belittle others for things they can’t control, or the things they haven’t be able to change yet. I have to do better than what I’ve been seeing in the world around me”.

I might not be perfect, but at least I can try to be good.
