A burning hill-mitski
Part one-
You're sitting on your porch admiring the beautiful sunlight hitting your face. The pine trees across from your house cast a nice scent over the area.
There were definitely some pros and cons to living in a secluded area. But at least you finally got some peace of mind from the noisy city.
You closed your eyes, taking a deep breath of the mountain air, fully intending to spend the rest of your afternoon doing absolutely nothing.
But the silence didn't last.
A sudden, sharp snap echoed from the dense tree line, followed by the frantic rustling of bushes. You opened your eyes, your gaze locking onto the shadows beneath the pines.
The birds that had been chirping seconds ago suddenly went completely dead silent.
That was your first warning.
You decided to go inside to make a second round of tea, maybe grab a little snack. Trying to spoil yourself and forget all your worries.
As you were grabbing a tea bag from the cupboard, you hear a shattering noise coming from the living room.
"Fuck." You think to yourself. Obviously, your first instinct is to get the fuck out but you didn't have any available escape routes of course.
Hiding is your second option. You're not gonna go out and investigate like a dumbass.
Your hands pressed tightly over your mouth, your chest heaving in shallow, silent gasps as you squeezed yourself further into the cramped dark of the tiny closet.
Through the narrow slats of the wooden door, you watched the kitchen through the small gap.The floorboards just outside creaked.
The intruder footsteps were silent and calculated. You had no idea if they was here to murder you or loot. The person started rummaging through the kitchen.. Great..
You start fearing for your life, rethinking your choices. There's a high chance you're gonna be found. In the middle of overthinking you realize the foot steps stopped. Peeking through the crack you see their legs, they were standing right in front of your hiding place.
You grabbed a window cleaner and prepared to use it as a weapon just in case..
The door to your hiding spot opens , the intruder crouches down and looks more startled to see you than you were to see him.
It appeared to be a male.. He had orange goggles on his face along with a weird slitted metal muzzle.
The intruder froze, his shoulders giving a sudden, violent hitch as a loud crack echoed from his neck. He stared down at me through those thick orange goggles, completely motionless for a split second.
your survival instincts kicked in. Before he could react, you slammed your finger down on the nozzle of the window cleaner, spraying a harsh mist of chemical fluid right toward his face.
He let out a sharp, muffled scoff of annoyance behind his muzzle, flinching back and shielding his goggles with a heavy, gloved hand. He didn't even yell in pain. But your defense only agitated him.
Before you could scramble out of the closet, his heavy hand shot forward, grabbing the collar of your shirt and violently dragging you out onto the kitchen floorboards.
you hit the floor hard, the window cleaner clattering away. He lunged over you, pinning my shoulders down with a terrifying, heavy weight. In his right hand, a hatchet with a neon orange handle caught the dim kitchen light, raised and ready. your chest exploded with terror.
You weren't gonna go down that easy , adrenaline kicked in and you ripped the dudes muzzle off, landing a sharp kick to his jaw.
He seemed pretty unfazed, just annoyed.
His head flew back buying you enough time to slip away.
You run to the back door in the living room, making a run for it in the woods somewhere. You hear his footsteps following you at a quick pace. At this rate you knew he was gonna catch up at some point.
You kept stumbling and tripping, trying to get as far away as you can in a hurry. You were exhausted, so much so you decide to try outsmarting him and hide behind a bush, making yourself as small as you can.
Your ears pick up occasional rustles and small noises , you couldn't understand where they are coming from.
Then suddenly, a loud shotgun shot from a rifle erupted. It seemed to have hit some sort of generator because you were starting to smell ash. The deafening blast echoed through the wind and rang painfully in my head.
Before you knew it, half of the woods were on fire.
You quickly scrambled backward into the dirt as bright, violent flames instantly raced through the dry brush, devouring every piece of the beautiful nature you were just admiring today.
Within minutes, the fire exploded. The wind whipped the flames outward, rapidly circling until you and the man who had just been chasing you were entirely surrounded by a wall of blazing, dead greenery. The heat was blinding. You couldn't cower in the dirt for a second more. The thick chemical smoke was filling the air so fast that you were more likely to die from it than from a hatchet.
The bitter taste of smolder was already heavily coating your tongue.Through the orange, roaring haze, a series of muffled frantic grunts turned your head.
He was no longer the imposing heavyweight who had pinned you down in your kitchen. His movements were sudden, frantic, and flinching as he jerked away from the surrounding flames, coughing violently. He turned in circles, his head swiveling on all sides as though looking for an exit that didn't exist.
He cowered to the whim of the raging blaze. He looked pathetic. His shoulders no longer appeared sturdy as he entirely caved in on himself.Since you had already ripped his muzzle off in the kitchen, and his goggles had slipped down around his neck during the chase, you got a completely clear look at his face. Covered in sparking ash, he fell to his knees, sobbing openly into the dirt.
Uneven stubble covered his jaw, and his lips, red and chapped, showed signs of being repeatedly chewed raw. He was completely trapped, crying as the fire closed in on him.
Your own exit was right behind you. the fire hadn't fully blocked the path deeper into the mountains yet. You could run. You could leave the asshole to burn to death, and no one would ever know. But looking at how small, broken, and terrified he looked on his knees, something in your chest twitched.
You couldn't just leave him there. He looked so vulnerable it hurt.
You enter the dangerous fire, bracing yourself as you rush to the crying male.
He looked startled and shocked to see you.. Again, this time pulling him out of danger.
You struggled a lot dragging him out, he was much heavier than you.
As soon as you got him out of the fire, you collapsed next to him, the two of you coughing your lungs out .
You obviously still don't trust the guy, crawling away from him just wanting your own peace and space, only to feel his hand grasp your ankle, pulling you back towards him. You turn your head around at a slow pace looking at his face for the first time after saving him. He is getting tics more frequently now.
His eyes are red and puffy, you can see the faint trail of a tear running down his cheek, looking at you with a pitiful look.
"A-are you really leaving -Hic?.. " he said meekly, voice rough from the fire .
"I-i-i don't even k-know your name yet.. "
"I don't want to tell you my name.. " you yanked your ankle from his grasp , standing up and facing him , backing away slowly.
It was supposed to be a cold night, looking at the fire behind you makes you truly sad.
"Why?.. " he mumbled, barely audible.
"You literally tried to kill me! " you replied, louder and harsher this time. This guy was really getting on your nerves.
"No! I mean.. Why d-did you save me? Hic-" his neck snaps , crawling a little closer to you.
This question really bummed you out. You didn't really wanna have a conversation with him in the first place.
"Because.. You looked pathetic. " you answered, kinda proud you said that, you almost felt like smirking.
Until you looked down at him and saw the look he was giving you. He got up , grabbing you by the collar. Seems he took it personal.
"Hey!.. Calm down I was just joking! "You start panicking. This guy was no joke, he could snap you into two if he wanted to.
" H-how dare you talk down on me! I-i'm not pathetic.. I'm not pathetic at all! " his tone rises.
How can a motherfucker be so sensitive?
"You've gotta understand I didn't mean it! It was a joke I swear! "
His grip on your collar softens, slowly letting you go.
"Fine.. I- Hic- won't kill you.. Only because you saved me! " . You breathe a sigh of relief and rest on the dry ground. This guy really makes you nervous.
"S-so.. What's yo-your name? " he asks another stupid question. He really can't get the hint that you're not in the mood for a conversation. You stare into the grass, hoping this is all a stupid dream.
"Y/N"..
" I-i go by Ticci Toby! " you look at him in disbelief.
You can't believe this absolute loser calls himself "ticci Toby".
" What stupid fucking name.. "You mumble before looking back at him, only to be met with the handle of his hatchet sending you into unconsciousness.
♡𐙚────୨ৎ────˖°𓇼
You wake up in a filthy bed. Where are you? Looking around , you see a very dirty floor, broken windows and chipped walls. Great.
Where did this guy bring you? Why are you even here? You tore off the " blanket "that was placed on you and you started exploring the seemingly abandoned house.
You go down a hallway and see two doors. You open one which seems to have two beds.
Thats it.
You rummage under the beds, the pillow. Anything. Just trying to loot for items that might be helpful. Nothing.
You go on and try opening the other door. This one was tougher. You put all your weight on the door, desperately trying to open it.
You hear footsteps.. Must be toby.
You finally manage to open the door, and quickly shut it behind you.
It was a bathroom. You find an item sitting casually on the sink. It was a rusty mini pocket knife, but the blade still flicked open with a reassuring click. Perfect.
You finally get out of the room and peek around, trying to see what toby was doing. He seemed to be in the same room you woke up in, sitting on the bed, shoulders slumped. He was crying, talking to himself. You couldn't quite understand what he was saying but it sounded like something about trust and whatever.
As soon as he sees you in the doorway his whole face lights up, scrambling over to you he sweeps you of your feet and gives you a really thight hug. Way too tight..
You can hear his neck cracking violently right in your ear. He really knows how to overwhelm you.
"I-I thought you ran away. I thought you l-left me like everyone else. Hic- You saved me, you wouldn't leave, right?" He was practically purring in your ear, rubbing his cheek onto your shoulder like a fricking cat.
"Toby.. What the fuck are you doing? " you asked genuinely concerned , pushing him away a little. His behavior was a little creepy but at least he didn't wanna kill you yet.
His arms locked around your waist like iron bands, lifting you completely off the sticky floorboards. He buried his face straight into the crook of your neck, his shoulders shaking with a breathy, frantic laugh that sounded dangerously close to another sob. The violent crack-crack of his neck ticking right against your ear made you flinch.
"Y-You're still here," Toby choked out, his voice rough and breathless. He squeezed harder, completely oblivious to the fact that he was cutting off your oxygen.
Your fingers twitched inside your pocket, your knuckles whitening around the cold metal casing of the mini pocket knife. You could drive the small blade straight into his neck right now. But looking at the manic, desperate wide-eyed look in his eyes through his messy brown curls, you knew a tiny blade wouldn't stop him,it would only infuriate him.
"Toby," you gasped out, slapping his heavy shoulder. "Can't... breathe. Let go."
He puts you down gently in a way, but still holds onto your shoulders, keeping you close.
He was looking at you, all big eyed before mumbling an apology.
"I-im sorry! I'm just Hic-happy to see you awake.." He repeated, louder this time so you could hear him. "I thought you ran away, or.. or someone took you away.. " he trailed off, spacing out. You're kinda used to it now.
You sit down on the bed and look at him.
''Toby, that shot back in the woods... was that meant for you?" His smile faded a little.
He sat down next to you, pressing closer than you’d like.
"Y-Yes, probably..."
"So, do you know those guys?" you asked curiously. Toby really couldn't take a hint You wanted to know everything.
"I-hic-used to work with th-them."Now he was just pissing you off. You wanted to scream right in his face, but you knew better than to anger him. You didn't even know why you were here. You let out a heavy sigh, looking at him.
"Toby... why? Why did you bring me here?"
Your anger bled away, replaced by a sudden chill of fear as the reality of your situation crept back in.
Toby looked nervous. His eyes darted around the filthy room before finally settling on you.
"I-I'll tell you... b-but promise not to leave me!"He intertwined his fingers with yours, scooting even closer.
You tried to pull your hand back, twisting your fingers slightly in his iron grip.
"I literally don't even know where I am, Toby. Where could I even go?" you muttered, trying to mask your fear with a smirk.
"Well, you can't go back home because your house burned down," he joked back, beaming at you as if he had just delivered the best news in the world.
Your smirk vanished.
You stared at him, wide-eyed.
"What? Toby, what the fuck do you mean?
"I-I mean the fire spread really quickly! You s-saw it yourself!" He squeezed your hand a little tighter, throwing another wide, innocent smile your way.
"That's why you brought me here? You could've let me stay at a hotel, or let me call my friends!" you snapped, frustration completely overriding your caution. overriding your caution.
"Hic- W-why when you can stay here with me? Free of charge, d-dont worry! "
He flashed you another wide smile. You couldn't understand if he was actually happy or just acting.
"Where even are we, what is this place? You frowned looking around again. The room was so unpleasant you didn't even wanna step on the floor.
" I-its just an old safe house the operator assigned me Hic-and some other people for m-missions. "
He replied with that same smile and puppy look in his eyes.
"The operator? .."
"That's what we used to call our boss, until he left us.. " he spaced out, looking more sad this time.
"That's why I need you to stay Hic-with me.N-never leave me! " he brought your hands closer to his chest, holding you like you were a prized possession.
His hands moved to cup your cheeks completely making you caught off guard . Digging into the softness of your cheeks, he whispered into your ear.
"Thats why you c-cant leave me! I-i-i know you wont! You care about me, you're the only one that does.. Everyone else ran away and turned on each other! "
he trembled , pulling you in for another painful, suffocating hug. You could hear him inhaling your scent, his chapped lips feeling rough on your temples.
"Y-you're my only reason now, I'm nothing without the Hic- operator! I'm just a l-l-lonely fucking psycho !
" reason for what..? " you whisper meekly, afraid to cause any reaction from him.
"Just a reason.. -Hic" he leans against you now, the moment felt oddly intimate but awkward at the same time. the silence was ringing in your ear, thinking about what your next move should be, until your stomach interrupted the silence.
You were pretty hungry indeed, but you forgot all about it!
Toby's head snapped up, his eyes widening as if he were seeing you for the first time. You froze, your muscles locking up. This guy was completely unpredictable and obviously cuckoo. You didn't know what to expect. Your fingers twitched against your thigh, right outside the pocket where the stolen pocket knife was hidden.
"O-Oh... I'm sorry! I completely forgot you m-must be hungry! " He scrambled up, his intense aura instantly vanishing into manic worry.
Phew... you were safe for now.
"So... Where do you get food from?" You stood up from the bed, dusting off your pants. Toby immediately trailed behind you like a shadow, keeping a close, suffocating distance.
"I-hic-I get it from the woods," he said proudly, his neck snapping to the side as he gestured toward the kitchen.
"The grocery stores are too far, and people... people look at me funny. So I just hunt. Rabbits, deer, squirrels... whatever steps into my traps.
You froze at the entrance of the kitchen, your eyes scanning the filthy countertops. Sitting in the corner was a rusted metal cooler leaking melted ice onto the floorboards. Toby stepped past you, eagerly flipping the lid open. Inside, wrapped in blood-stained wax paper, were chunks of raw meat. Next to them lay his neon-orange hatchet, casually resting against the ice.
"It's fresh! I took down a buck two days ago," Toby beamed, picking up the heavy hatchet by the handle and spinning it with terrifying ease.
He looked back at you with those wide, innocent eyes, completely oblivious to how insane he looked holding a bloody weapon in a filthy kitchen.
"Are you hungry enough for a steak? I-I can cook! Or... or if you don't like venison, I can go out and track a rabbit right now! I'm really fast, Y/N. It won't take long."
You swallowed hard, your hand instinctively dropping down to your pocket, your fingers brushing against the cold, comforting metal of your hidden mini pocket knife. A steak sounded amazing, but watching him twirl the very axe he had almost buried in your chest earlier made your appetite completely vanish.
"Venison is fine, Toby," you said quietly, keeping your voice as calm as possible.
"You don't need to go out into the woods."
"Okay!" he chirped, his mood instantly flipping back to childlike excitement. He tossed the hatchet onto the counter with a loud, echoing clack and began rummaging for a pan.
You forced yourself to nod, backing up slightly until your spine pressed against the chipped kitchen wall. As Toby's back turned to light a rusty portable gas stove, your eyes darted toward the dirty, cracked kitchen window.
Through the grime, you could see nothing but endless, suffocating pine trees and rolling fog. You were completely cut off from civilization. If you were going to use that pocket knife and run, you had to wait for the perfect moment. Fuck , why did you have to be put in this situation..
Soon enough Toby handed you some burnt meat. No plate or anything, just handed it to you while it was still hot. You could see from the outside it was almost completely black. You take a bite, struggling a little from the toughness of the meat but you get trough. It's raw on the inside.
You won't complain.
You look at Toby eating his burnt meat with no problems. Maybe youre picky but who the fuck is gonna eat raw meat? Not you.
You pick off the cooked and burnt bits, hoping it's enough to at least hold your hunger in tonight.
"Toby, where will I sleep tonight? " You had been thinking about it for a while. Obviously, Toby didn't want you out of his sight. There was only the one filthy bed you had seen, and a love seat in the living room that looked actively infested with some sort of bugs.
"With me!" He flashed another wide, stupid smile.
You looked at him, completely dumbfounded. Why would you ever want to sleep next to your kidnapper?
"Seriously...?" you mumbled, looking at him with a look of pure disgust. You genuinely wondered if this guy had ever showered in his life. Probably not.Defeated and exhausted, you curled into a tiny ball on the kitchen floor, grumbling to yourself. Despite the horror of the situation, your eyelids were growing heavy. You were just so tired.
Toby, I am not sleeping in that bed with you," you stated firmly, crossing your arms. You tried to sound calm, but the slight tremor in your voice gave you away.
"I'll take the floor. Or a chair. Anywhere else."
"Toby’s smile instantly vanished, his eyebrows knitting together in a heavy frown. The sudden crack of his neck ticking to the left broke the silence.
"N-No. The floor is cold, Y/N. And you’ll try to—hic—run away. I'm not stupid.".
Before you could argue, he stepped forward, grabbed you around the waist, and effortlessly hoisted you over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes.
You let out a sharp yelp, swiping your fists against his back, but it was like hitting a brick wall. He marched straight into the bedroom, tossed you onto the filthy mattress, and immediately climbed in right next to you.He pulled the scratchy, foul-smelling blanket over both of you, rolling onto his side to face you. In the dim light filtering through the cracked window, his wide, unblinking eyes stared straight into yours. He didn't even put his goggles or muzzle back on. He just lay there, a mere inches away, his breathing uneven.
You lay stiff as a board, your heart hammering against your ribs. Your hand was shoved deep into your pocket, your fingers desperately gripping the rusty handle of the mini pocket knife. You didn't dare close your eyes.
Hours seemed to crawl by. Eventually, Toby’s breathing slowed, shifting into a heavy, rhythmic pattern. His eyelids finally fluttered shut, though his shoulders still gave the occasional, violent hitch in his sleep.
This is it, you thought. Your chance.
Holding your breath, you began to slither backward. You moved a millimeter at a time, making sure your clothes didn't rustle against the gross fabric of the mattress. You carefully slid your legs out from under the heavy blanket, inching your torso toward the edge of the bed. Your boots gently touched the cold floorboards. You were halfway out.You suppressed a smirk, shifting your weight to stand up
Suddenly, you feel a hand grab your wrist painfully, pulling you back into the bed. Of course he wasnt sleeping.
You groan in frustration and you turn your back to Toby. How were you supposed to escape when this guy had his sixth sense already??
As much as you dont want to, your drowsiness takes over, and you eventually fall asleep.
♡𐙚────୨ৎ────˖°𓇼
You wake up to Toby snoring loudly against your shoulder, his arms wrapped tightly around your waist ans legs tangled in yours, almost completely preventing you from moving.
He was cuddling you in a way, holding you like a kid clinging to a stuffed animal.
you carefully tried tilting his head up by the chin to get a better look at him, but your movement instantly woke him up.
Toby jolted awake.
In a split second he went to a normal sleeping boy to a predator . He gasped, half asleep.
Before you could even register what was happening, his grip tightened around your waist, violently rolling you over and pinning your back flat against the mattress. His forearm pressed hard against your chest, holding you down so damn forcefully it knocked the wind right out of you.
"W-Who—?!" his voice was rough and hostile, his head snapping violently to the right with a loud crack.
You froze, staring up at him with wide, terrified eyes, your hands raised defensively between your chests.
"Toby! Toby, it's me! Stop!"
He blinked rapidly, the fog in his eyes slowly clearing as he stared down at your face. His chest heaved with shallow, frantic breaths, a sudden hic ripping through him..
"*Y-Y/N*...?" he mumbled, his voice instantly dropping . The terrifying weight on your chest vanished as he scrambled backward, looking genuinely startled and deeply embarrassed.
He sat back on his heels, his hands trembling as he rubbed his face, his neck ticking repeatedly.
"I-I'm sorry. I Hic-I thought you were... I thought someone was grabbing me." He looked so small and frazzled sitting there in the morning light, his messy brown curls sticking up in every direction. But the bruises starting to form on your wrist and the lingering ache in your chest were a sharp, painful reminder that no matter how pathetic or sorry he looked, this boy could still kill you without even meaning to.
"Are you k-kay?" he asked meekly, peering at you through his messy bangs, his voice instantly shifting back to that childish tone.
"I didn't mean to hurt you. P-Please don't be mad at me."
You frown, backing up into the corner and rubbing the sore spots on your wrists and chest.
"What the heck Toby! " you yell, obviously mad but then you remember you can't just lash out at him like that. You just saw what he was capable of and he didn't even try.
"I-i swear! I'm s-sorry i-i-i didn't m-mean to hurt you...! He looked desperate saying that, almost pitiful.
" it's fine Toby.. Just.. Dont do it again.. " you sigh, making eye contact and getting out of the corner. You lean against Toby trying to find comfort. It's tiring, your life completely going upside down in one day.
Maybe you should've stayed in the city.. Maybe-
You jolt awake from your overthinking as you feel Toby completely wrapping himself around you like a snake. His hugs were always so intense, strong as if he didn't even know of his strength.
Toby was clinging heavily again to you, inhaling your scent, his large frame completely covering you. He really was like a kid.
Damn well you can take advantage of this, you're not complaining.
"Toby, I'm still a bit hungry.. You think we can eat soon?
" Y-yes! Of course! Anything for Hic-you! He dragged you straight into the kitchen, his boots against the grime. He was practically vibrating with an anxious hyperactive energy, desperate to prove that he can definitely 'take care of you'.
"I-i can cook! Im a g-good cook *Y/N* you'll see! "He stammered , neck cracking again to the left.
You watched his clumsy chopping skills from the loveseat, not knowing what to expect. Last time you ate burnt but also raw meat somehow.
He handed you some sort of meat on some random cardboard, acting as your plate.
The meat was overcooked, a little burnt but it was better than your last meal.
Toby was looking at you with a puppy look in his eye, trying to understand if you liked the food but also fishing for praise.
"This is pretty good Tobes! " you smile, a little trying to lighten him up even more.
Toby is ecstatic obviously, a sharp breathy laugh escapes his throat as his whole face lights up . He looks like a kid who just won a prize, practically bouncing on the soles of his boots.
"R-really?! " he stammered, his voice pitching a little as another tic occurs.
"You l-like it? I told you! I told you I'm a good cook! I can Hic- make it even better next time! Ill make sure you never go hungry again! "
Before you can even swallow your next bite, his frame coming to give you another chocking hug. He wraps his arms around your waist, burying his face right into your shoulder almost making you drop your food.
Hes practically vibrating against you clinging tight as if hes trying to fuse you two together.
"Okay okay I can't breathe! " you gasp out as you try pulling away from his grip.
He pulls back to look at you with a shy look on his face
"My b-bad.. "He attached the back of his neck, his eyes following you as you go back into the bedroom, he wasted no time going into the same room as you.
You climb into bed, this time you sat pretty far away from him. You couldn't escape Toby's affection tho, you obviously fell asleep with him clinging to you.
