From the Department of Awesome Once-In-A-Lifetime Photo Ops come these incredible shots of a mighty Golden Eagle wielding a knife. Yep, that’s pretty freaking awesome.
Dutch photographer Han Bouwmeester was using the knife to slice off chunks of meat to attract birds of prey in Västerbotten, Sweden. After he accidentally dropped the utensil in the snow an eagle swooped down and grabbed it.
“Once it flew away in the sight of my camera I saw something red in his claws and made some shots of it. On the display from my camera I saw immediately that it was the knife we used to cut the meat. We surely left it in the snow.
At such a moment we were firstly enraged with ourselves because this was a fault. But he soon dropped the knife after realising it was useless for him. I was happy with the absolutely cracking and unique picture. The eagle is holding it exactly as we should do with it. What a crazy once in a lifetime moment this was.“

Encounter: Golden Eagle with a knife
I came up with the idea in November when I first started patterning out in masking tape the swimsuit-like base to my Princess Mononoke Nightwalker cosplay. During this time I noticed that people were already posting their Katsucon lineups, so I thought it would be a silly idea for me to post my own lineup with three different photos of me in my masking tape pattern saying that I was going to be cosplaying Con Crunch all weekend. It was originally a joke although I thought to myself, “What if I did actually wear Con Crunch to Katsucon?”.
To be honest I did con crunch the Con Crunch cosplay! It was one of those cosplays that I just had to do at the convention because of how it was built. Plus if you are cosplaying con crunch - I think its appropriate to actually live through the experience of the crunch. Late the night before my debut my friends and I made the Katsu Crunch cereal box (which was essentially a Capt Crunch box that I taped a photoshopped Katsu Crunch image onto then hand wrote the slogan “Good Enough”) and the sign ‘Days Until Katsu’ sign. The next morning I was wrapped in cling wrap and masking tape (patterned out the same way as my Nightwalker cosplay). I actually used my sewing machine and a coffee cup that said 'cosplay tears’ on the side of it to roll around the convention center as my props.
I knew people would get a kick out of the cosplay but I wasn’t expecting how viral it became despite me only being in the cosplay for a few hours.Honestly I am happy that it did get the attention that it did because I did the cosplay to make a statement about Con Crunch as a whole and how ridiculous the crunch is. No cosplay is worth compromising your physical or mental health. It is perfectly fine to wear unfinished cosplays to events or even postpone them to wear at a later date. In the past I used to con crunch super hard for Katsucon (lots of late nights working on cosplay, working on cosplay in hotel rooms, a lot of mental breakdowns). This year I kept my health in mind as I was crafting and realistically looked at what I had time to make to wear at the convention. After all…. Cosplay is about having fun. This is what I focused on this year and I think its what allowed me to have an overall positive experience.

Rocks on the lake Baikal get heated from the sunlight every now and then and melt the ice beneath. After the sun is gone, the ice turns solid again thus creating a small stand for the rock above. It is called the Baikal Dzen.

Some photos of my kenku costume at Anthrocon 2016, taken by @adammillerstudio! Oh boy did I ever have a lot of fun! The other raven in these photos is @qawstume and the snowy owl we are mobbing is @crystumes, who made both of the blanks that we used for our masks.
If you have any questions about this costume please check out my FAQ!
You forgot the best one though!

Bibbity bobbity boo!
I had my own fairy godmother this weekend at comic con. So magical.
I slowed the actual transformation down 200% so you can see just how brilliant it is… From the first sign of the ballgown to completely changed takes less than 3 seconds. That is some epic-level crafting.
@justhere4coffee thank you! Wanted it to be as quick a transformation as possible!
Hijab is not a barrier to cosplay.
These Muslim women are using their hijabs to transform into superheroes.
It’s called hijab cosplay, inspired by Japanese costume role-play and it’s making waves in Muslim-majority Malaysia.
Nuzaru is one of a growing number of hijab wearers embracing this world of comics, film and video game characters.
She spends weeks planning her costumes.
Today Nuzaru is competing at Malaysia’s first event dedicated to hijab cosplay.
Saakira co-founded the event.
Hundreds are here to watch acts and learn tips from cosplay pros.
Nuzaru’s hard work pays off as she nabs top prize.
This is so great! And this is what we need here in America!
This is awesome.
I was thinking earlier about gender bends in cosplay - because I’m in the preliminary stages of working on one (need more money, need to buy a wig for Mrs Peel first dang it).
Which may seem irrelevant, but one of the things cosplay gives us is the ability to not look like our character, but make our character look like us. (Not saying I don’t respect the skill of people who choose characters they look like and can walk on a stage looking like they stepped out of a panel or a frame, but…)
This is the same thing. Making a character your own by shifting it towards who you are.
I’ve honestly always loved how happy Malaysian Muslims look and how they wrap their identities all around Islam and their hijab rather than treating it like an obstacle– even just looking under the Doraemon tag, SO many are these happy Malasyain ladies in blue and white Doraemon-coloured headscarves taking pictures at Doraemon museums and stuff, they’re just so cute and unabashedly themselves, it’s really sweet to see.
Like you can tell exactly what character they’re going for, I’ve seen some really amazing hijabi cosplayers and Lolita girls (I remember a lot of positive reception from Japanese twitter too, of hijabi Lolita) too!!
I really love the ones who use colourful scarves to convey the character’s hair colour, it’s so cute???
This is a really tiny picture, but this creative little TARDIS was too cute not to share!!!
@sugarnoor on tumblr here is a Muslimah Lolita too. ^^

The cosplay glow up is so real guys omg.
Wittness my first ever cosplay, which was of Bowser.😂 The “shell” was just paper and twine and all the other accessories were duck tape. I used spray hair dye to dye my hair. Don’t even bring up my horrible makeup skills back then. 😱
My first costume looked nothing like all the cosplayers who had inspired me to try out cosplay, but I had fun making my outfit and hanging out in costume! So I continued to cosplay and eventually discovered I could incorporate my love of crochet into my costumes. And from there a fire was lit!
Now that I have a few costumes under my belt and I’ve successfully landed on a cosplay style that’s unique to me, I’m happy to revisit my starting point.💖💖💖
I’m also happy to say that I’m sitting here, typing this out in my dorm room as I prepare to begin my journey at art school. Thanks to all the support from my friends and family I’m able to pursue my passion for crochet costumes and learn even more about the fiber arts. I hope I can come out of school with even cooler costumes!
I got the photos back from my shoot with World Of Gwendana at Katsu last week! I love how these came out, I feel like they capture the smaller details of the costume really well :D

Photographer Yuga Kurita: “We had a dramatic sunset … Fortunately, I was shooting Fuji from the top of Mt. Yakushidake. Initially, the northern sky above Mt. Yatsugatake became red. Then, the red part of the sky quickly moved to the south east where Fujisan resides. It ended up burning the western sky above Mt. Kitadake. It was an unforgettable sunset.”
