One and Only Max Vane

“Does that mean you don’t need a drink?” She joked, not picking the drink back up.

Max smiled but waited for a waiter to come around and picked one off of the tray. “Thank you.”

“More exits to escape from…” She agreed jokingly.

“So what’s up?”

“Damn.“ Max laughed.

“Glad we’re on the same page.”

“Are you up for taking me back to the school?“

“Then why did you ask me here? We haven’t hung out alone in like a year. And I’m pretty sure we’ve never gotten a drink alone.”

“Believe it or not I helped raised you too. Like you said, we haven’t hung out in over a year. I figured you’d be more comfortable here than a fancy restaurant.“

“Maybe you’re rubbing off on me.”

“You make me better and vice versa. We’re off to a good start.“

“Oh really Maxine?”

“Really, really. Yeah.“

“And… nothing, because this seems like a conversation that doesn’t end well for me.”

“Good.”

“Damn, you’re smart.“

“Don’t you guys have crazy fast metabolisms?”

“I promise I won’t be lame. And I promise you’ll have fun, Max.”

“And?“

“What?” He was grinning ear to ear now.

“You think I’m that basic? Really?”

“I worked out and ate right for weeks in order to have my cheat day. I want to eat every last french fry on my plate.“ She laughed. 

    “Ugh what is with this place? Can’t they give me a freaking bottle of ketchup that actually has ketchup in it?”

“The customer services has gone down. I’m sure there’s ketchup packets up front if you ask.“

   “Oh cool. Then I won’t bother you…though I still wanna know if I can have your ketchup.”

“Sure. It’s almost empty too but I’m sure you can hit the bottom and get something out.“

“A poor attempt at sarcasm.” He grinned, stealing a fry off her plate.

“Let me take you out on an actual date then. PIcking you up, taking you home; the works.”

“Hey!“ She slapped his hand but the smile on her face gave any any real threat. 

“Very fascinating, Maxine.” 

“Thank you for allowing me to join you. Getting over being embarrassed by me?”

“Are you mocking me or was that a poor attempt at sarcasm?“
