ilyana was nursing a glass of whiskey she had been bought whilst watching the performances. she wasn’t the biggest fan of the drink, but it was free and she wasn’t one to turn down a drink. especially when it didn’t end with a guy trying to make her go home with him. “i mean, i’ll think you’ll have to go a long way to find that place. you might as well just ignore them. or sing it. i mean, with your voice? it’s gonna be a bop.” she offered a small smile and nudged her shoulder lightly “cheer up. you were doing great out there and you’re gonna keep doing great out there. despite everyone thinking that you have to sing wonderwall at least once for it to be considered a real open mic night.“ she couldn’t remember the last time she was at open mic night and hadn’t heard the song being sung.

jagger almost feels back for the laughter that leaves him at the others’ words. “oh, max, you poor thing. unfortunately wonderwall is one of those songs that everyone and their mother knows and somehow thinks is still good. it lost it’s charm after the hundredth play, in my opinion.” he swishes his own drink around for a moment before shooting a glance back at the small stage whiskeypedia had set up for tonight. “next think you know they’ll ask you to do piano man, or something. can i put in a request?”

here’s lil bit more about her past

grew up in a pretty lowkey, quiet family in the portland suburbs  

max never really felt like she fit in growing up, always kind of the odd one out, always a little different than everyone else but not intentionally

always holed away in her room listening to music like an Emo Angst Teen

had an older brother (a yr older) who was perfect at everything who her parents adored, and even though she wanted to please her parents she always came in second

but it was ok she didn’t really care that much bc that way they let her do her own thing bc they were too busy focusing on her brother

but then her brother graduated hs and went off to school and since he was gone they started focusing on max more and getting on to her about her grades and forcing her to do all these things that she didn’t rlly wanna do lol she didnt even want to go to college tbh ? she wanted to do music !!! but they didnt approve of that ofc they wanted her to get a degree ilke her brother and help run the family business … and they wanted her to go to prince bc that’s where her whole family went (and also her brother)

but what they don’t know is that instead of majoring in accounting (bc that’s what they wanted for her so her and her older brother can take over the family business one day) she’s actually majoring in music theory since that’s really what she wants to do, not math bc math is for NERDS
