the concept of samira mohan being treated online as a vessel to discuss robby when she is, in her own right, a fascinating character. like i'm genuinely bamboozled by the fact that we see a woc breaking down, having her FIRST panic attack because of her mother, and we see a white man treat her like a dick, and we discuss the white man?? obviously robby's story is valuable, but the signs pointing at his suicidal tendencies are akin to chekhov's armada, what with the 3 motorcycle accidents and the various camera angles in discussions of self harm. however, i feel as though mohan's character isn't being treated with the respect that she deserves. she's dealing with something that is so common amongst first-gens, looking for guidance, and getting denied every single time. al-hashimi had one interaction with her and gave her more vision than robby has in the last two seasons combined. YES robby is depressed and suicidal. we know this for a fact. we can also discuss the fact that mohan is getting pushed to a brink and her interactions with marginalized patients being denied care directly reflects her emotional arc of being denied help from the upper ranks of the er, whom she thought she could trust! we could talk about her unending empathy is such a fascinating character foil in comparison to joy, who is arguably doing better! i just feel as though we are deeply neglecting in depth analyses of our WOC on this show, especially those without proximity to whiteness -- (samira, joy, victoria, collins, etc) and falling into the same traps that we research so deeply in robby. food for thought, i guess.
