Trial & Error: World Wildlife Fund PSA from Matt Van Rys on Vimeo.
This is a PSA originally built for Dynamic Typography class at SCAD Savannah. While happy with the initial concept, I feel like my finished execution lacks the depth, complexity, and variety I hope for in my work. However, every project is something to learn from and by posting this here I force myself to get better.

World Wildlife Fund PSA - Improved from Matt Van Rys on Vimeo.
Fall 2016 I created a type-driven PSA project for a dynamic typography course at SCAD. I wasn't particularly happy with the results I created, so I improved this project by further distorting the original animation through glitch techniques such as datamoshing and data bending. I admire WWF and their mission, learn more at worldwildlife.org.
Momento Mori - Equality Six Feet Under from Matt Van Rys on Vimeo.
This was the culmination of a couple months of experimentation with various Alternative Motion Media Design Methods for a class at SCAD. This piece uses techniques of flicker film composited with datamoshing. Then those results were databent in various ways and many times to achieve the finished look. The audio is a obnoxious soundtrack built quite randomly from a cacophony of sound effects.

Experiment: Graduate Review Self-Portrait from Matt Van Rys on Vimeo.
I experimented with making a flicker film before my 45 hour graduate review (for an MFA student at SCAD, this is where they decide if you can continue in the program and continue developing your thesis). Right after passing my review, I proceeded to experiment with glitching the flicker film using databending and re-encoding in Hexfiend and After Effects.
Matt Van Rys - Motion Design Reel 2017 from Matt Van Rys on Vimeo.
A small collection of my work from 2016 created at SCAD during my MFA.
Lest We Remember Title Sequence from Matt Van Rys on Vimeo.
This animated title sequence was designed for a fictional film based on the short story by Issac Asimov called "Lest We Remember." The story is about a man who receives a drug that allows him to index and retrieve every sensory memory he has ever had. This piece was built using predominantly Cinema 4D and After Effects. Music for the piece comes from the amazing group SURVIVE.
Ruination Exploration Documentation from Matt Van Rys on Vimeo.
Documentation for an interactive art installation featuring projection mapping, Arduino controlled LED lit columns, and Kinect and Unity based participant tracking programming. The piece highlights exploration of a physical space and highlights human effect on natural environments.

Inside the Uncanny from Matt Van Rys on Vimeo.
This project is from my Projection Mapping class at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) projected on the side of a dormitory. Super-scale of the finished projection was approximately 150 ft x 30 ft. Theme for the piece is the uncanny which I focused on incongruous images where you can't quite tell what you are seeing as things flash back and forth.
Lullaby Narrative Projection from Matt Van Rys on Vimeo.
This project is a narrative projection project created for my projection mapping class at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). Features interplaying juxtaposition of images to alter viewer understanding through quotation references and flashes of type. Type is lyrics from the A Perfect Circle song "Let's Have A War" and the music the piece is edited to is drawn from A Perfect Circle's "Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums."
