Another bottomless and textured pot. This one has no slip, cylinder, faceted with a straight wire and spring wire every other facet. Then scratched the spring cut faceted three sides further. Continued throwing it out (inside forming only) wider to stretch the scratches. #wheelthrown bottomless form that has slip added when the form is a cylinder half this size. Then I slash lines in that slip. A torch dries the surface to help cause a few surface cracks around the lines while I expand the whole thing to the edge of the bat. The cracks soften as it sits since the slip has lots of moisture. Then I throw a slab bottom and attach that. This way stretching out the form is not limited by the bottom until the end when the slab bottom is added. #clay #ceramics #mattsmudworks #mattsmud #instapottery #mud #pottery #potter #texture

I made this on the last day of a five day workshop with all the already wedged clay I had left or recycled. This is a pot made initially with no bottom. This lets me expand the texture all the way out with no bottom to hold back the form. The texture is done in soft slip added to the outside. Torching it adds cracks that then soften once the go wet again from the moisture of the slip. This one is a hanging planter/pot. What you see is upside down; the spout is the drain hole and I beef up the bottom into a rim to hang it on strings or chain.
