This is really old news, and I know this was circulated before on tumblr, but I was craving some PGSM feels so I dug out one of my favorite Keiko moments. Â
For those of you who donât follow much J-Drama, Kitagawa Keiko (Sailor Mars) had starred in a J-Drama called Akumu-chan (2012), playing the lead role. For the Special episode (2014), Keiko performed a song and dance routine with the idol group Momoiro Clover Z who sang the showâs theme song as part of storytelling.Â
The attached video features some of the behind the scenes leading up to Keikoâs performance in the show. At 2:26Â of the video when Keiko was asked if she sings often, she responds she only sings anime song, mostly just Sailor Moon songs.
As part of the film shooting, Keiko also had to dress up in costume with the rest of the idol group, and Keiko blogged about how the experience reminded her of being Sailor Mars in PGSM:
I sang and danced once in the musical for my dĂŠbut work âPretty Guardian Sailor Moonâ, was blank for the 10 years since, and at the time the worst at it out of the five (çŹ), so I was greatly aware that Iâm not good at singing and dancing during the lessons, but the coaches responsible for Momoclo were really courteous and kind in teaching me allowing me to enjoy it.
It was also a great help that the members of Momoclo accepted this beginner and cheerfully advised me.
As for the outfit, absurd as though it was, when I put it on for the first fitting, as I wasnât otherwise bothered, I grumbled when I changed that the choker moved a little too easily and had to be 1 cm smaller to keep it from shifting, and that the boots didnât quite fit so I couldnât fight in them unless they were 5 mm smaller, and then I came to my senses, âEh⌠this isnât Sailor Moon.â
Itâs like I have no resistance to the outfit at all, strangely enough.
I unconsciously think, âHey, Iâm a Guardianâ, when I wear that kind of costume. (çŹ)
I didnât just do a Kimoclo concert scene in the drama, but also magazine, newspaper and TV interviews, and what made me feel really uncomfortable were the 10 year age difference with Aarin, of course, that my signature colour was black, and that I was in the centre.
I appreciated my fellow Guardians once again while we were filming,
because while in formation with Momoclo I had this delusion that Sawai-san, Rika, Komacchan, and Mew were around me, and I thought, âDancing in the centre or forming up is pretty hard. Sawai-san, you sure were amazingâ.
That I only still use a honorific with Sawai-san must be because Iâve always had this respect towards this âmiddle positionâ.
I keep talking about Sailor Moon, but when I watched Momoclo it was as if I watched the true friendship we had 10 years ago and I keenly felt with nostalgia how nice it was to be young.

Guys, Keiko appreciates her PGSM co-stars so much! And she still thinks sheâs Sailor Mars and immediately thinks of all the practicalities of doing action scenes whenever she puts on a costume similar to her Senshi costume! She shows so much fondness when she writes or talks about her time as Sailor Mars I want to ugly sob. How is she so amazing????!!!!
Like you can tell she is being so genuine whenever she talks positively of PGSM. The only reason we donât hear her talk about it more often is probably some cooperate bullshit or her agency doesnât want her to bring attention to it as often as some of her other co-stars still do on social media!
