This is my art.

This is a family of objects I designed for my Designed Objects 2 course this fall. Our prompt was to design three objects that stemmed from a common inspiration object and concept. My inspiration object was Yasmine Afshar’s design for a cup and saucer, called Slip, and my inspiration concept is explained at the top of the first image in this post. The project required a product poster (image 1) as well as in-progress models of our designs (image 5). Images 2, 3, and 4 are renderings to show what these objects might look like in reality, and the 6th image is included to show detail of the texture caused by vacuum forming over a 3D printed form which is something that I would value as part of the finished product.

In my in-progress models I imitated textured glass by vacuum forming clear PETG plastic over 3D printed models and to communicate the ceramic bases I made molds from my 3D prints, then cast the bases in grout. The black base shown is the 3D print before casting.

This is the final selection of pieces for my AP Studio Art - 2D Design portfolio concentration. The concentration is part of the AP portfolio that I submit and is comprised of 12 pieces that explore a common theme. Here's my portfolio description.

- What is the central idea of your concentration?

My high school was informed this year that our beloved principal was diagnosed with cancer. Within a month my classmates Ryan and Alyssa passed away. During these hard times thousands of people across Michigan have put on strong faces to support our community. This gave me the idea for my concentration. Each piece represents an individual but you’ll see that they are built around the same skeleton which ties them together in the way that our shared loss tightened the bonds of our community.
