            He could feel himself drifting to sleep, it was almost as if a woman sang him to sleep. He could smell sweet perfume, he could feel a woman’s hand stroking his cheek as she whispered and yet sang such a lullaby. Even as he drifted off, a single tear fell down his face, landing on his pillow.          He could almost.... remember... A woman who called him to eat supper, who tucked him into bed, stroked his hair when he cried or had bad dreams. Mother... I’m sorry I couldn’t save you or anybody else. 

       “Sometimes... I have my doubts. It feels like... everything is just a losing battle.”

      “....Mother. Did I... Are you proud of me, who I’ve become?”

       “Am I supposed to be afraid of you?” Sarcasm dripped like venom from pale, parted lips.  “You’ll find I don’t scare.” This man was no Sephiroth. 

      “....Mother.”  Why did thinking of her... cause his chest to ache,  cause his tears to overflow and make his head throb?               “I’m sorry ----”

      “I don’t do anything for free, pay up.”

     “...What’s the real price of freedom?”

      “...Do you think there’s really a chance for peace?”

       “Don’t call yourself weak, you’re the strongest woman I’ve ever met.”

     “....I want to be a hero like you someday.”
