Just Another Touhou Fan

I still don't get how tumblr works but here goes I guess I'm Materia. The most common alternate name that I go by online is Abyss, as that's what my closest friends call me. Personally, it doesn't make a difference to me, so address me as you'd like.

I'm nonbinary and my pronouns are he/they. They is preferred, but not by much, use either of the two.

I'm a currently a 3rd year undergraduate student. I'm studying data science, particularly interested in the fields of machine learning, AI, reinforcement learning and AI safety. I'm aiming to start a PhD after my undergrad.

My favourite games are Terraria, Rain World, Celeste, Noita, Dwarf Fortress(Adventure mode more than Fortress mode tbf) and Ark Survival Evolved. I'm also into tetris, minesweeper and pokemon showdown. I've recently started playing Slay the Spire 2. My closest friends play Grindblue, so I log on from time to time. I'm sort of drifting away from it. Obviously, like my blog suggests, I'm a big fan of touhou, and the series as a whole is in my top 3 overall. I probably play more touhou combined that any other game on my list. I love touhou fanarts, I love the music, and of course, I love the games as well, even though I'm not amazing at them yet. I've been playing a lot of Shoot the Bullet and Double Spoiler, so I'll be posting my replays here(or maybe a dedicated blog). I might also post my replays of the main game series. I'll also reblog touhou related fan content from time to time.

My game development interests have taken a backseat recently. Because school is stressful and my schedule dictates me more than I dictate it. I'm still going to explore them through my interest in reinforcement learning, however.

I have...never really liked this game. Whether it's the subseasons being a weird mechanic, the life system being tied to score, or my inability to find half of the cast memorable, I avoided playing this game for a while, after the last time I played the game before and completed the game on Easy. Then, I uh, try the game out again, then realize I'd been playing the game wrong, and doubled my score on easy(and got far more lives than before). Then I decided to just try Normal once and...I beat it first try.

Also Okina, you're hella easy with season releases and bombs, wtf

I really didn't like this one...Hatate's instant range and she's bouncing around the field littering bullets everywhere? I swear, if Aya didn't hunt me down, I'd get clipped by some random damn bullet.

On the subject of Aya vs Hatate's shots, it's kind of hilarious how Hatate needs to be even pushier than Aya in actual gameplay. No long range shots means you need to get up close and personal.
