“Their home was old, enormous, filled with tunnels, abandoned passages, nooks and corners ~ and a library filled with her great-grandfather Prince Paul Dolgorukov’s rich collection of books. Helena devoured his tomes on the occult sciences, magic and alchemy ~ including Solomon’s Wisdom, a Jewish book written in Greek in the first century B.C….
An aged serf who worked for the family, Baranig Bouyak, was a healer and magician; he taught Helena about the occult properties of plants and the language of bees ~ and predicted great things for her future. She later recalled in a letter to a friend: ‘All the devilries of the Middle Ages had found refuge in my head…’”
(This passage comes from a book called The Other Side ~ A Journey into Women, Art and the Spirit World, which was written by Jennifer Higgie.)

“Everywhere Helena Blavatsky went, strange things happened: letters of advice from ‘Ancient Masters’ fell from the ceilings of rooms and train carriages, a teacup materialised in the earth, a brooch beneath a pillow. Each occurrence was a message of some sort, intended to reinforce Theosophy’s wisdom and the power of Helena’s connection to the spirit realm.”

“Once upon a time, in a kingdom by the sea, there lived a little Princess named Lenore. She was ten years old, going on eleven. One day Lenore fell ill of a surfeit of raspberry tarts and took to her bed.
The Royal Physician came to see her and took her temperature and felt her pulse and made her stick out her tongue. The Royal Physician was worried. He sent for the King, Lenore’s father, and the King came to see her.
‘I will get you anything your heart desires,’ the King said. ‘Is there anything your heart desires?’
‘Yes,’ said the Princess. ‘I want the moon. If I can have the moon, I will be well again.’”
(This passage comes from a story called ~ Many Moons ~ which was written by James Thurber.)
