Imyaraen "Imrae" Auvryervs is an abjuration wizard and a sorcerer of the Deep Earth (the latter is largely suppressed while under the influence of the illithid parasite).
He's been a loner for the past sixty years, but thankfully, the circumstances of the Absolute crisis force him to get close to others again, and that is where he finds a life partner in a certain vampire...
Day 7 is where we talk about that certain vampire. 💜
Day 7: Astarion
Imrae and Astarion have a lot in common. They can understand each other in ways others may have a hard time to.
Both are cursed elves lurking in the dark, hunted and reviled. Both are shrewd and stay in the grey zone of morality. Both were the scapegoat in their abusive family situation. Both were treated as a tool rather than a person. Both are used to being desired, but feeling little to no desire in return (Imrae because he is asexual, Astarion because of his traumatic situation).
Imrae was lucky that he could run away and survive in the Underdark through his awakening sorcery. He learned how to be free and knows that it is not a pretty process.
That is how he is able to stay patient with Astarion when he struggles with his freedom of choice and with processing his trauma. He's been there alone and it made him solitary, something he hopes he can help Astarion avoid.
When they first meet, Astarion pulls a dagger on an unsuspecting Imrae, who afterwards is thankful towards the rogue for showing him that he has preconceptions about Faerûn that he needs to reevaluate.
They quickly learn that they share a sense of humor. To the rest of the camp, it often looks like these two are throwing insults at each other, but they are fencing verbally, it's all in good fun.
And, plain and simple, he admires Astarion's resilience, his inner strength, his razor-sharp tongue, and his competence. Even before any flirting or "romance" (the plan) has happened, Imrae offers the rogue a partnership hunting treasures in the Underdark together.
Thus, Astarion chooses the drow as the target for his nice little plan, but he finds himself getting oddly attached.
Imrae gives him space when he pulls away, confused rather than hurt, and still helps him with working to decipher his scars.
It puzzles Astarion to no end, and when Imrae does back him up against Araj, then afterwards apologizes for any occasion in which he might have made Astarion uncomfortable or overlooked his feelings, he knows that Imrae is someone very special to hold onto.
They do their best to figure out how to be in a relationship, what gentle affection they like, how to be there for the other and how to let the other be there for them (the latter applies especially to Imrae - Astarion at first likes that the drow is "easy" because he does deal with most of his problems by himself).
While Imrae does enjoy physical love now and again, he's asexual and does not really need it in a relationship, much to Astarion's relief (and initial confusion after their nights together).
They confess their love after Cazador's defeat and Astarion's decision not to steal the ritual, and after the defeat of the Absolute, they venture to the Underdark together, first to travel a bit, but they do become part of the leadership in the spawn colony, Astarion as part of the ruling council and Imrae as an advisor.
They get married some decades later, and roughly a century after the defeat of the Absolute, they take in an adolescent drow called Drovic as their ward (though he becomes their son in anything but words).
Leokian's home is that of sun elves at constant war with themselves, to the point of being nicknamed the "sun drow" by outsiders. His growing discontent, want for change, and station as the son of his city's current leader led him to be noticed — a test, to see if these sun elves with such disregard for life could still come back to Corellon like they wish. A star was born for this sun, a pull that was just enough to lead Leokian away from home.
But Leokian's upbringing made navigating the outside world hard. He could survive just fine, but dealing with others proved difficult when he saw all non-elves as beneath him and wasn't shy about it. By the time he learned to keep to himself, the pull that had led him out of his city was gone. Astarion had died, and the sun elf roamed aimlessly.
The nautiloid caused the two to finally meet, each finding the other easy to be around. Leo prefered the fellow elf, even after discovering his vampirism, and Astarion loved the easy protection — until he also loved everything else. Leo had ignored the odd fondness growing for the other high elf, but Astarion's confession put much of his own thoughts into words, too. Leokian nearly ended things accidentally, his first words a complaint that he hadn't wanted anything more complicated than the sex. But he grabbed Astarion's hand as he went to turn away, their tadpoles connecting and showing all the feelings Leo didn't have words for. Astarion was both annoyed and surprised, but of course the big idiot was going to somehow be worse at this than the vampire spawn isolated in torment for 200 years. They agreed to table the sex — as much as Leo hated to — and start working on figuring out this "something real."
Leokian was indeed worse. Astarion still managed to be an emotionally intelligent man, while Leo put away everything beyond the battle. Words were hard, and the frustration that came with that was worse, so the two often used the tadpole connection to help Leokian sort out his feelings. By the time they reached the city, the two had found a decent rhythmn with each other, and Leo was better at recognizing the intricacies that came with this new soft fondness. They were far from perfect, but the two felt like they were growing ever closer. Maybe there was something to this love.
Leokian wasn't one to mess with what the others wanted, focusing on the chase for a cure and letting them deal with their own battles if and when the group ran into them. This included Astarion, not seeing a reason why becoming a living vampire while also killing his master could go wrong. Leokian liked being powerful, he liked the thought of helping his partner be more powerful, and he liked the thought of Astarion being rid of his vampiric weaknesses even after the tadpoles were gone.
But he forgot just how much he liked being the strongest. He forgot it was a devil's deal. He forgot a vampire lord holds no soul. The man that came out of the ritual seemed off, but Leokian just figured Astarion would settle into himself. He wasn't hungry, Cazador was dead, and he could feel the power seeping in. It wasn't until later that Leokian realized his mistake. Astarion wanted to be the master, spoke to be above Leo, to make him a spawn. Leokian would never allow such a thing, and he was surprised that it was a dealbreaker for the man who shyly confessed just months before. They broke it off, and Leokian spiralled in anger. He hated who Astarion became, hated that he had helped make the vampire that way, hated that he agreed to table sex for nothing, hated that he dared to be so weak in front of someone so quick to throw him away.
After his anger was focused into destroying the Absolute and everyone parted ways, Leokian knew he still had a mess to clean up. He sought out ways to destroy an ascendant — nothing certain since Astarion was the first, but he took his best chance. He wrote to Astarion, a false apology and wish to become a spawn. The Ascendant was happy to be right about his love crawling back. But Leo's heavy heart turned the vampire to mist and locked him away, cutting his way back out of the palace's servants.
The reunion was bittersweet. Leokian loved to see the others doing well, but he had to answer why Astarion was missing.
When they first get together, Syvin isn't blind to the fact that Astarion is trying to use him. He's the spawn's second choice during the party, failing to seduce the main leader away from the wizard. But it's been a while since he got laid, and he's probably not surviving this whole thing, so why not make the most of it? It isn't long before sex with a vampire turns Syvin's mind to his dead crush, complicating his ability to figure out how he feels about the spawn in camp. But the two both gain true feelings for the other, Syvin planning on once again never speaking on such things until Astarion's confession. They are noticeably closer and Astarion notorious for not being able to keep to himself, but Syvin still has a hard time being too soft in front of the others. When it's just them, however, the two find comfort and safety in each other. Astarion adores such moments that are just for him. Neither know what they are doing, how this "something real" is supposed to go, but they have each other to help figure it out through the ups and downs.

Abraxis is a rogue who is well practiced in thievery. For the first 14 years of his life he was raised by his lone human caretaker, Melinda, in a drafty rundown wing of his biological family's estate in the Upper City of Baldur's Gate. He is the only tiefling in his family and had little interaction with his kind as a child growing up, though his caretaker managed to take him to some things in the Lower City to get him exposure to tieflings it was still unfortunately lacking.
At 14 he left the wing and his caretaker for living on the streets in the Lower City after his father attempted to dehorn him. It's on the street where he named himself Abraxis and shed his birth name entirely. He remained there building underground and criminal connections, learning how to steal and survive, until his father paid him to leave the city through Melinda. He took the money and began traveling up and around parts of the Sword Coast
Day 7- Astarion
Abraxis held suspicion for Astarion from the jump. When he, Gale, Lae'zel and Shadowheart encountered him it was a tense stand off and Abraxis was on edge enough to see through the ploy Astarion was trying to set, to an extent. He figured some of that was one rogue seeing another. The tense stand off led to know bloodshed that day and even despite his reservations Abraxis extended a travel invite to Astarion. Through their entire travels Abraxis could not say they ever forged anything close to a friendship and it was simply a working relationship, they had a common goal: removing their tadpoles.
Despite it all, the night Astarion said he needed to drink blood, announcing his vampirism, Abraxis let him. Though it brought repressed memories of his own to the surface. When they reached Baldur's Gate, things reached their climactic end between the two. Abraxis stood his ground understanding Astarion's hurt as much as he could but refused to give the vampire what he wanted. Their journey together ended that day and the guilt still eats at Abraxis despite knowing he couldn't do more to achieve a different end.
What does your character think of Astarion before discovering his vampirism, or do they notice upon meeting? How does his attempt at biting them change their relationship? Is he allowed to feed on people or told to stick to animals?
Does your character help him find Raphael and learn about his scars? If so, how do they react to the knowledge of the ritual? Is he with them when meeting Araj, and how does that go?
What happens beneath the Crimson Palace when facing Cazador? Do they persuade Astarion to stay a spawn and move on, or do they help him take the ritual from right under Cazador?
I'm trying to keep up with this event hosted by @mascgatemayhem celebrating the masc & male OCs of BG3. Day 5 (Shadowheart) was yesterday, but there's so much going on in their relationship that I took an extra day to post.
You can read my response re: Wyll, Karlach, and Gale here. All you need to know about my Tav for this answer is that he's an Ilmateri monk & he hears Ki as song/chords.
So without further ado, let's talk about the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to Tav & Shadowheart's relationship.
The Good
True to canon, Shadowheart is the first companion that Tav traveled with after the Nautiloid. He saved her from her mindflayer pod, which earned enough of Shadowheart's trust that she agreed to camp with him the first few nights.
They immediately clocked each other as devotees of enemy gods. After all, Shads is NOT subtle with her holy symbol, and Tav wears a red cord on each wrist. They both decided to not talk about it, focusing instead on their shared infection and the task at hand. It's helpful that Shads is not very forthcoming or talkative in the beginning, and Tav doesn't really speak unless it's necessary.
Once others join the party, the topic of the faith remains a non-issue all through Act 1. Shads fields a couple of questions from the group about Shar, but remains very private. Tav's Ilmateri sense of justice and compassion quickly positions him as the leader in the group, and Shadowheart may roll her eyes at his desire to intervene/help, but she doesn't have any more issues with Tav than she does the Blade of Frontiers. Tav is also very practical, direct, and does very little proselytizing (monks, in general, are more agnostic than clerics or paladins sworn to gods; Tav aligns himself with Ilmater but does not get specific powers from him nor claim to have a relationship with him).
By the time they get to Rosymorn and Halsin learns that Shads is Sharran (she had to change armor due to rust/neglect - the beach is harsh on metal), Tav respects Shads enough to diffuse the tensions. His point is: our gods are enemies, but they have all abandoned us, and all we have is each other.
The Bad
A lot of Tav's stoicism and emotional control erode in the Shadow Cursed Lands, preceded by a very unpleasant bodily experience/need to use Withers' powers at Rosymorn (triggered by our sticky-fingered rogue, of course).
Shad's faith also becomes harder to ignore, given that she is somewhat protected from the curse and begins to have more symptoms with her hands.
By the time they get to Last Light Inn, Tav is in a deep depression. Isobel's presence casts Shadowheart's faith in stark contrast with the light, and Shadowheart begins to dig her feet in defending Shar's teaching. This sparks tensions with Halsin, whom Tav has grown very close to.
Tav manages to remain a peacekeeping presence -- not a peacekeeper per se, since his depression has made it really hard for him to speak at all, but Halsin's affection and Shadowheart's respect for Tav (and Isobel's very measured response to Shads) keep everything from boiling over.
But then...
The Ugly
Enter Malus (gods, I'm just now understanding that this name is a phonetically malice -- listen, I got the "mal = bad" latin root, but not the whole thing...)

We can briefly touch on the fact that today is Day 6 of the BG3 Masc Event (Wildcard NPC) to talk about the poor man Malus is torturing in the House of Healing.
Tav, while largely cut off from his Ki/depressed in the Shadow Cursed Lands, has still been gaining levels in monk. In the moments he CAN hear Ki, he finds his abilities have expanded greatly. In my fic, Ki can tell you secrets about the world (such as a person's "true self" a la Ki-based gender affirming care). So when Tav touches this man in the House of Healing, he goes on a little trip through the man's life.
He learns the man is an ex-paladin of Tyr (oathbreaker at one point, now a simple gardener) who felt abandoned by his god when he realized during the Second Sundering (which was only a decade ago from the game!!) that Tyr wasn't even alive/active when he had dedicated his life to him. Tyr came back to life, but the man's faith didn't.
There's even a little allegorical moment in which a blind gardener (Tyr is also blind) and a very broken man sit among tomato plants, and the blind man offers the broken man the chance to just step away from the world and stop caring/taking on so much/suffering. The broken man can't stop.
Tav, barely holding it together and having his own crisis of faith, is ruined by the fact he can't save the man. All that anger and grief comes pouring out at Shadowheart -- after all, Tav just had to witness Shar's teachings in plain and indisputable terms. He's angry.
Worse, Shads is making some good points. Her respect for Tav has made her rationalize their faiths, and she feels they actually aren't philosophically opposed. Shar, she argues, also believes in relieving suffering. But while Ilmater's solutions are temporary (or, in some cases, not actually reducing the amount of suffering in the world but just changing who suffers, like when an Ilmateri takes the place of another person facing punishment or torture), Shar's solution -- oblivion -- is permanent. It's light that causes suffering because it created consciousness and the ability to suffer (this is a real position of Shar, btw). Shads thinks Tav is naive, and she takes issue with his emotional unraveling in the SCLs, but she doesn't hate or dislike Tav.
In their fight, Tav learns that Shads knows how to torture people and relives his own run-in with followers of Loviatar years ago. It's too much -- he sends her back to camp. Shadowheart is very disappointed in Tav's lack of pragmatism (she's also personally hurt, though she won't admit it). Their relationship is ruptured.
After many chapters apart, Tav and Shadowheart are in the same location again, and we're about to descend into the Gauntlet of Shar. I'm looking forward to delving into their relationship even more.
Fanden and Therran as part of the BG3 Masc Tav event
I'm so sorry for the delay on this, thank you for tagging me @spillingteanotpermitted !
Fanden and Therran are twins who were separated at birth because their horrific birth mom only wanted one baby, not two. She left Therran out to die at birth, and eventually abandoned Fanden and "promised him a better life" because she was promised a ton of money by the Bhaal cult. Fanden was then adopted by the same woman who found Therran on the streets, and they were reunited. Many many years later, they discovered Emmy was their little sister.
However, Emmy and Kairon were the ones taken on the nautiloid. Not the twins. They DID become in contact / friends with the companions after becoming beyond close with their sister. 🫡
I skipped the first two days, so I'll be writing Wyll and Karlach!💖
1. Wyll
Fanden and Therran are decent friends with him, but never actually had the opportunity to become close. In my fic, he's the Blade of Avernus, so he's always going back to fight in the Hells. They don't get to see him much. I will be strengthening their bond though and having them become besties at some point.
2. Karlach
Shortly after the twins discover Emmy is their sister and their bond is like no other, Therran and Karlach instantly click. In fact, they are introduced at Emmy's baby shower and sparks practically started to fly. Now, they're married and have baby Delsii. Of course, Fanden is close with Karlach because she's married to his twin brother. Fanden gives her a lot of shit though (in a playful way).

Seeing another general fallen so far into his grief makes Syvin feel like he's looking into the worst parts of himself. A what-if. A what-could-have-been. A what-could-still-be…

I'm a little late jumping on this wagon, but I wanted to get back into posting content on Tumblr, and this seemed like a good start (let's hope it doesn't become one of the many near-complete posts in my draft graveyard!!) edit: yay!! It did not.
Meet Tav (and his adorkable smile) <3
Tav is an Ilmateri monk who 1) hears Ki as song/chords, 2) is trans and used Ki to transition, and 3) falls head over heels for Astarion & Halsin during the events of the game.
I missed the first few days of this event, so will go ahead and do the first few days (Wyll, Karlach, Wildcard NPC, Gale, Shads)! And hopefully keep up with the rest...

Day 1: Wyll
Tav spent his early twenties in a body that was physically & spiritually painful to be in, and so seeing Wyll at the age of 24 endure a nonconsensual transformation of his body is heartbreaking for him in a more personal way than others.
Tav has started to master the technique that other monks used to help him transition with Ki; early on after Wyll's transformation, Tav meditated on Wyll's Ki to see if he could offer something similar. He found only the grinning face of Mizora and a threat to turn Wyll into a lemure if Tav tried to transform his body back. Wyll has brought the topic of Tav's transition up a couple of times, but so far Tav hasn't been able to tell him the bad news directly.
Tav, a decade older than Wyll, feels a brotherly affection for him, though treats him like a peer rather than a younger brother. After all, Wyll sold his soul to a devil to save his city at 17 -- he wasn't an adult, but he was acting like one, and Tav understands that Wyll needs that maturity validated and may not respond well to unsolicited advice and counsel.
There's so much content to focus on that my fic has only featured a couple of moments between them, but Wyll's story will become very important in Act 3, and I anticipate having time to explore their relationship more.
Day 2: Karlach
Karlach is loud and gregarious, while Tav is soft-spoken. They share a love of the energy of people, though. Karlach loves to be in the throng of people at celebrations or parties (like the tiefling party; I have a similar celebration in my fic after the refugees are liberated from Moonrise, and she is right in the center dancing and singing). Tav likes to be close by, listening to the way everyone's Ki flows together and forms new songs. In this way, Tav and Karlach feed off each other's energies, and they both enjoy being around the other.
Once they return to Rivington (will be a little while before we're there in my fic, though) Karlach will help Tav unlock his rage. And Tav is going to teach Karlach how to break things with her hands (I love multi-classing her into a monk in my playthroughs!). And I'm really trying to think of a way that Tav and Shadowheart can team up to save her while keeping her out of Avernus. :(

Day 3: Wildcard NPC (I'll skip this one)
Day 4: Gale
Unlike Karlach and Tav, whose very different energies are well-suited for each other, Gale's verbose nature clashes with Tav's quiet one. They consider each other friends and think of each other warmly, but they aren't particularly close.
(spoilers for recent chapters in The Crown of Madness!) Tav, being Ilmateri, is NOT good at talking someone out of self-sacrifice. Tav and Gale nearly perished after Tav agreed to help Gale blow up his orb. Astarion put a stop to it, thank goodness -- but Gale and Tav have some debriefing to do in the next few chapters.
Day 5: Shadowheart
Actually, Shadowheart deserves her own post because we are knee-deep in philosophical and theological differences between the Ilmateri and the Sharran. Coming shortly.

Wyll
Abraxis understands Wyll. They are both of noble blood and for one reason or another are not known to the public at their father's sons. He also knew of Wyll's feats as The Blade of Frontiers and "The Boy Hero" as a Baldurian himself. Their friendship starts off a bit rocky but Abraxis owes his meeting of Karlach, though misguided to Wyll. The shared fact of being infernal touched is another point that builds their friendship, Abraxis offers his ear to Wyll after Mizora's punishment to help the hero accept his new reality. Abraxis understands physical appearance based rejection well. While Wyll is the first he even vaguely admits noble blood to, he's not the first to learn it all.
Their bond strengthens the most once they reach Baldur's Gate and their past and families come knocking in the ways they do. He would happily march into a fight at Wyll's side and knows the warlock would have his back.
Karlach
He might very well try and become a poet to put into words what he wants the world to know about Karlach. He was originally immediately drawn to her because she's a tiefling too but also because he didn't have to fight to understand the pain she bears. Not because he's been through the same, but he knows all too well about masking pain. She's chaotic and that's where they forge their friendship first, two scrappy kids ready to brawl.
She becomes his truest and deepest confidant within the group as they travel. She helps him connect with their species's culture and language, and that in a way helps her settle back into a life and mindset that isn't all war and horror of her captivity. There is not one thing about her that had him falling for her, it's truly just the truth of her soul that captivates him. She's authentically herself and it breaks through every wall he had leading to him telling her everything when he finally accepts he has let himself be so vulnerable around her, that he trusts her so fully.
Wildcard NPC(Dammon)
These two met while Abraxis was living in Elturel, during his early-mid 20s. Dammon was the local smith Abraxis traded or bought from. They really barely knew each other as it was a strictly business based relationship but still enough trust was built for Abraxis' comfort to interact. Most of the time Abraxis would bring old or otherwise acquired weapons and armor to Dammon for patch work or scrap metal. Abraxis left Elturel a few years before The Descent.
When they met again in the Emerald Grove after Abraxis was abducted and given a mind flayer tadpole, he was happy to see Dammon again and even surprised he was memorable to the other tiefling. Catching up with Dammon and learning of his time in Avernus paid off quickly in that Abraxis was more than willing to bridge the meeting between Dammon and Karlach for her engine. This continued their working relationship and deepened his trust in the smith to the point where Abraxis might actually call him a friend.
Gale
Abraxis originally was sure what to make of Gale. His introduction caught him a bit by surprise given his other prior companions(Shadowheart and Lae'zel) were uniquely prickly in their own right. He was very unsure and suspicious of Gale's orb predicament as he's had his own shakey love-hate relationship with magic. As they spend more time together it remains rocky in the wilderness. Abraxis had never had someone quite like Gale to work with long term. Gale's eccentricity was enough to throw him off on its own but the need to consume magic put him on edge.
Once he understands the history of the orb it doesn't fully assuage his concerns but he had something to go off of. Because Abraxis has little experience with all of that it left him prone to easy frustration in the early days of their travels. Not to mention he couldn't help but read an air of superiority in the wizard early on when Gale spoke of magic, even if it was not intended or known to be there.
By the time their journey together ends, he trusts Gale and is proud of their journey and friendship that comes from it.
Shadowheart
She's his favorite person to poke and goad playfully. His favorite thing to do is play the part of the annoying little brother with her.
True enough the pair are the ones that have traveled together the longest if even only by a few hours. They met on the nautiloid and Abraxis helped her out of the pod despite Lae'zel's protest. On the beach after the crash, he did consider leaving her and trying to steal the artifact from her. His quiet kindness won out and instead woke her and thus began the next leg of their journey together. He wouldn't call their starting relationship combative but in hindsight he can admit they were both sizing each other up. When they rescued Lae'zel from the trap and tieflings he saw a gold mine opportunity to bother both women and has exploited it for a quick laugh a few times.
He respects her and although he knew little about Shar worshippers he knew they are generally bad news. Despite that he had put his trust in her and vice versa. He is not one to judge people on their choices in life as he has no high ground to stand on for it. Even if he didn't agree with her on things he was quick to realize part of her struggles were a deep indoctrination. He's also not religious so knows little more than what was told to him by his caretaker growing up. By the time they reached Baldur's Gate he considers her a sister.
Wildcard NPC(Zevlor)
Like Dammon, Abraxis met Zevlor while living in Elturel. Unlike Dammon, he hardly knew the older tiefling and thought the man was a traitor to their kin.
They met after Abraxis found himself in a bar fight with a drunk Torm paladin. The fight was brief but left Abraxis with a scarred face. Being among the Hellriders to get to the bar and break up the fight, Zevlor was the one that arrested Abraxis and took him to the cell for the night. They spoke very few words between them, Abraxis' were all venom and betrayal for his, at the time, nameless jailer. Since Abraxis had fought back in defense of himself but was the one punished. Zevlor didn't feed into the anger but did offer what he could to help Abraxis clean the wound on his face.
The next time the two meet was at the Emerald Grove. Abraxis stepped in and stops Zevlor from, righteously in his opinion, knocking Aradin's teeth in because of how that might have gone over. It's through Zevlor that Abraxis learned of the tieflings plight and the fate of Elturel. They formed a mutual respect for each other that benefits them both through to the end of the crisis with the Absolute.

Imyaraen "Imrae" Auvryervs is an abjuration wizard and a sorcerer of the Deep Earth (the latter is largely suppressed while under the influence of the illithid parasite).
He's been a loner for the past sixty years, but thankfully, the circumstances of the Absolute crisis force him to get close to others again, and that is where he finds a life partner in a certain vampire...
Day 3 to 6 below the cut!
Day 3: Alfira
Imrae loves Alfira like a little sister.
While he did save Arabella out of his own volition, he was ready to just ignore the refugees - until he meets Alfira. He loves music and has a great respect for bards, and the young woman's story touches him.
Thus, he keeps helping the refugees, aiding them whenever they happen upon each other over the course of the story. He cannot bear to see Alfira distraught.
Both Astarion and Lakrissa get rather jealous about the two of them singing songs together at the tiefling party, though both learn that it was without cause.
Day 4: Gale
Perhaps the tensest relationship that Imrae has among his companions.
Their relationship starts out alright, as Gale does have respect for his fellow wizards, and he is very curious about Imrae.
Imrae, while not too fond of academy wizards, generally respects Gale, helps him with his "condition" without too many questions, and trusts his food when he is literally out of his depth, though they may squabble about wasting fuel for a simmering cauldron.
Everything changes the night Gale offers to reach into the Weave together. Imrae takes this completely the wrong way, thinking Gale is naming himself the "teacher" and Imrae the "student" because the latter had to figure out much about magic by himself.
It gets worse when Imrae learns what Gale's condition really is and that he was Mystra's Chosen. He cannot understand how the Wizard of Waterdeep would gamble away such privilege and comfort.
He only keeps helping Gale because he can very well comprehend the scope of the fallout of the alternative.
A huge part of his negative feelings towards Gale comes from envy, even though Imrae would never admit it. For most of his life, he had to be the one to choose himself, to value himself, to motivate himself, to teach himself. It made him self-reliant, but it also hyperindependent.
In the Underdark, even the others in camp choose Gale's food over what Imrae proudly makes for them, a fact that will eat at him for a long while after.
Despite the animosity, Imrae does not support Gale's wish to self-sacrifice for Mystra. Not at all religious himself, he thinks Gale has been punished enough and should not throw his life away.
After the defeat of Ketheric, Imrae gets beyond furious at Gale's sudden obsession with the Crown of Karsus, yelling at him that he has enough of him and to learn from his mistakes.
Their relationship is very frosty from then on.
Gale's desire for the Annals of Karsus is so strong however that he manages to talk Imrae into breaking into the vault with him in a weak moment by appealing to the drow's curiosity and his pride as an abjuration expert.
Thus, Gale has everything he needs to ascend and nothing to keep him grounded after the Absolute is defeated.
Day 5: Shadowheart
Imrae and Shadowheart become very close to one another during their journey together. He saves her from her pod on the nautiloid, then respects her privacy when they start travelling together.
They are both pragmatic, stay on task, and get along well. They vibe well in terms of humor and personality - that is until they find Lae'zel again, who Imrae likes very much, too.
Finding out about her Shar worship changes nothing. Imrae does not care for the gods at all, so neither does he care who Shadowheart worships as long as it is not Lolth. He still finds what he hears about her treatment in the religion worrysome.
He first realizes she is starting to care about him when she defends him from the Flaming Fist at Waukeen's Rest alongside Lae'zel, a very novel display of unity between the women.
Their blossoming friendship is tested in the the Shadow-Cursed Lands. Imrae suffers greatly under the tainted earth there, while Shadowheart is estatic about her goddess' work.
Imrae just lets her fawn over Shar, seeming patient while trying to tell himself that as long as she is helping the group lift the curse, it's fine, but he becomes more and more apathetic towards her.
Luckily, getting the chance to explore the Gaunlet of Shar lifts Imrae's spirit. He finds out that the Nightsong must be a divine Selûnite being before they enter the Shadowfell.
From the kindness Shadowheart shows to animals and children, Imrae finds it hard to believe that she is truly that cold to kill a holy being.
Afterwards, he gladly helps her take down the Sharrans in Baldur's Gate and is there for her after she lets go of her parents.
He later names her his "dear sister", showing her that she will never be alone as long as he is around, and his travels inspire her to travel the world as well to find herself.
Day 6: Araj Oblodra
The alchemist is the catalyst for Imrae and Astarion's romantic relationship, though you will hear neither applaud her for it.
At Moonrise Towers, Astarion is the main focus of her obsession. Imrae's trauma with drow women makes him slow to respond when she does not take "No" for an answer, something he blames himself for until Astarion reassures him.
When they meet her again in Baldur's Gate, she still wants Astarion to bite her, but she has realized who Imrae is and his blood would be very valuable to her.
It is an important moment for Astarion, who then can see clearly how triggering her presence is for Imrae. The rogue thus decides that Araj will have a very painful unfortunate accident in the forseeable future, not willing to risk that she one day will stop asking for permission.

Day 1 and 2 below the cut!
Day 1: Wyll
Imrae and Wyll are foils to one another. They both come from a noble background, but could not have taken more different paths.
Wyll was banished from a loving home at 17 for an act of heroism.
Imrae ran away from an abusive home at 20 when he chose his own wellbeing over his guardian's wishes.
Wyll has acted like a hero ever since, building an inspiring persona of "The Blade of Frontiers" to help and inspire people.
Imrae has acted in his own interest ever since, building a terrifying persona of "The Mad Drow" to get people to leave him alone.
Wyll does not like Imrae's cold pragmatism. He can tell that the drow is not the evil caricature from the horror stories, but he is not good, either.
Imrae does not like Wyll's idealism, especially since he finds it to be flawed. He knows that between heroes and monsters, he himself will fall into the latter category in most people's eyes. His late and only friend, the drider Zhah, was a "monster", and yet one of the gentlest creatures he ever knew.
Day 2: Karlach
Karlach's nickname for Imrae is "Purple".
Karlach and Imrae are both survivors of harsh environments who struggle with loneliness. But where Karlach lets people in quickly and is very warm and extroverted, Imrae is the complete opposite.
But he likes her enthusiasm and her honesty, and he can understand her lust for life better than most. She's been lied to and she deserves better than that in his eyes.
I explored their very early relationship in Skin Deep, but long story short, Imrae scar-tattooed his spellbook into his own skin while Karlach was modified against her will, and they bond over that.
Early on, when it rains, she is usually the one offering Imrae shelter under her tent roof, as he otherwise camps on one of the large boulders under the open sky.
Where Karlach is open with her rage, Imrae keeps his anger contained because usually, it is dangerous for him to give into it due to his sorcery affecting the caverns around him, and he refuses to fall out of habit.
They also can clash about morality, about doing as much good as possible, much like Imrae and Wyll do.

Ft. Morian (he/him) the sea elf rogue. Pre-tadpole, he was completely focused on his job as a mercenary, so he’s not the most moral person, and is totally fine with Shadowheart having and keeping whatever secrets she wants, so long as they don’t hinder the group’s chances of survival. They’re both very supportive when the other has a moment of vulnerability, and despite the general lack of morality, they have quite the healthy and loving relationship.
Shadowheart slowly worms her way into Leokian's heart entirely unintentionally. Being a half elf, she is given some respect by default, but the way she handles her personal battles is what makes Leo actually care.
Even if Leo doesn't care for Shar, he respects her dedication to her goddess and how she seems to actually be seen by a deity. His people worship Corellon, but the god has long since turned a blind eye… She frees the child of a god who becomes an ally, and she chooses to deal with her cursed hand in favor of taking back her parents. Shadowheart slowly takes back her life, happiness after the heartbreak. It makes Leo feel like he may yet figure his own life out.
And he is only more adoring of her during the reunion. Shadowheart is far happier and relaxed than he's ever seen her, her parents doing well and homestead full of animals. She chances a hug from the man and is surprised to actually get one — he's proud of her and finding he misses having a friend around. She also continues to be a glimmer of hope for him as he mourns Astarion and the happiness he thought they had set for themselves.
