Biography:
Life in the MacDonald household was chaotic. The oldest of four, Mary was often left to take care of her siblings while her parents worked. Her father, Patrick, was a Muggle Accountant, and her mother was a Muggle Teacher. Mary often fell into the role of second parent with her siblings, but she didnât mind it. They were a close family and they all did their best to pitch in.
Mary always thought that something was...different about her but she didnât know how to process it or put it into words. Strange things just seemed to happen around her, especially when she got mad. She remembered throwing a tantrum at five and all of the lights in the house went off at once. Her parents said it was a freak thing, a fuse blowing out or something when they realized the outage was just to their house, but in her gut she knew something was off. Her suspicions were confirmed on her eleventh birthday when a Professor from a mysterious school showed up at her door. Mary was told that she was a witch, and in that moment, it all seemed to click. Suddenly she understood that she was different. It took her parents some convincing, but eventually they believed it, and Mary was set to attend Hogwarts the following fall.
The week leading up to September 1st was difficult for Mary. She was nervous about going away for the first time, of this new strange life that she was embarking on. Her parents were supportive, but they couldnât really understand what it was that Mary was going through. When it was finally time to go to Hogwarts, Mary felt more confident then she had all week. It helped that she made friends on the train quickly, with other students. When she got to Hogwarts, she was sorted into Gryffindor, and with that, she was set.
Mary was determined to be one of the best students in her year. That desire only got stronger when she was called a mudblood for the first time. She hadnât known what that word meant, but she could tell that it was bad, whatever it was, based on the sneer on the boys face when he said it. When she learned what it meant, she was determined to prove them all wrong. Her blood wasnât any different because her parents were muggles. It didnât take âpurebloodâ to do magic. It didnât make you any better then her because of who your parents were. She would prove them all wrong.
Sebastian Mulciber was her friend. Against all odds, he was her friend. Of that Mary was certain of. They hung out, in secret mostly, but sometimes out in the open. It was a shock to her that someone like him, from a âpurebloodâ family would be friends with her, but he was. Until he wasnât. The attack on her had been sudden, and she hadnât seen it coming. She had thought that they were going to hang out but then suddenly...suddenly there was pain everywhere. She remembers every moment in vivid detail, but she manages not to think about it. His face shows up in her nightmares weekly, and she has to go through it all again. She ended up in St. Mungoâs for a week, but she thankfully didnât suffer from any long lasting physical affects. The mental trauma, though, is another story. He had been her friend. And then he turned on her so suddenly, so quickly, that she has trouble trusting people. She hates him and she pities him, and she hates how he makes her feel.
Post graduation, Mary was listless. Coming off of her attack, she no longer knew what to do or who she was. For a girl that had been so determined once, so sure of herself, the change was certainly jarring for the people closest to her. She was glad that her youngest sibling had just passed her eleventh birthday without a Hogwarts letter. She didnât want to expose her siblings to the hatred that she had endured.
A chance encounter with Madame Pomfrey put her back on track. The woman reminded her that she had once thought about healing, and the conversation pushed Mary to apply to learn to be a healer. She ended up switching to becoming a mediwittch when she realized that healing was mostly sitting around, and she couldnât stand the idleness of it all. But as a mediwitch she thrived.
Joining the Orpheus Society was an easy decision. She suspected that Mulciber was a Death Eater, and if he wasnât the people that he was friends with certainly were. So if she could take them down? Then she would do whatever she could.

Maryâs Flat
Sometime after midnight
Closed for @constantvigilxnceâ
The tapping at the window startled Mary awake. She hadnât been a very good sleeper in years, so it wasnât a surprise that the noise startled her. It took her a moment to place the sound, but she eventually noticed the owl at her window. Getting out of bed with a sigh, she walked over to the window and opened it, recognizing the owl immediately, she took the letter from itâs leg and read it over quickly. Grabbing her quill, she quickly scrawled off a reply and sent it off with the owl, before she grabbed a sweater and pulled it on over her t-shirt she had been sleeping in, and made her way into her kitchen, trying not to yawn. She started the tea and grabbed her mediwitch bag and placed it on the kitchen table.Â
It couldnât have been more then ten minutes since she had been woken up before she looked up to see the green flash in her fireplace before Alastor Moody stepped out looking not great. She sighed. Whatever he had been up to had clearly not gone according to whatever plan he had. âCome sit, I have tea on,â she told him, gesturing towards one of her kitchen chairs. She watched as he walked into the kitchen, and took a seat. She grimaced. âWhat happened?â
Lucius cringed upon hearing the door open so close to closing. Even with the shop running on limited hours, people never seemed to fail to show up just as he was thinking about locking up for the night. He forced back a scowl and took a steadying deep breath, not bothering to look in the direction of whoever was intruding on his time.
âFive minutes to closing,â He announced with a wave of his hand. âNext shipment arrives Monday and I will not be putting in mail orders since the deadline on those was yesterday. In other words, make it quick or worth my while. I have a wife to get home to.â

The last thing that Mary wanted was to walk through the doors of the Malfoy Apothecary. But all of the others had been out of Lacewing flies, so she had no other choice but to walk through that door to see if they had any. Despite needing them for the hospital, she was hoping that they were out too. At least then she wouldnât be giving money over to the Malfoys.Â
Seeing Lucius behind the counter was even worse. She had been hoping that it would be one of the shop clerks in today, not the man himself. But luck had never been on Maryâs side. Hearing him put her in more of a mood, and while she wanted nothing more then to be out of there, a part of her wanted to make this last even longer just so he couldnât get back home to his wife. âIt will only take a few moments. Iâve been to every other Apothecary in the area and they all just seem to be out of what I need. I was hoping you would have more stock.â
âProbably not.â Peter greeted, voice a little gruff. Mary seemed like she was in a bit of a mood, but no one could blame her for that. Peter was assuming she had just come in from work. If his own day was anything to go buy, he could imagine that she was feeling the exact same way that he was. Tired. Pissed off. A little bit too hungry to be polite company. But he fixes her with a smile, a tired one, and clinks another glass down beside her plate of food. âYâprobably canât help me either. But mediwitches get free drinks around here, with the amount of times I need to go get patched up.âÂ
Mary always seemed a little bit speical in Peterâs book. Too bright for the world maybe. Like someone you needed to look at through a pane of tinted glass. Sheâd been the year bellow at school, he thinks. And now she was bumming around with the Orpheus gang, and that made her one of his, made her someone that needed to be looked out for. âYou can rant and rave about how shit your day was if you like. If not, Iâm just going to quietly sit here and stare into a bottle.âÂ

Sometimes Mary was just tired. Not just physically tired from her long shift, but emotionally tired. When she had learned that she was a witch she never had imagined that things would end up like this. She often missed that naive little girl that thought that the magical world would be just that, magical. Instead she had been hit with reality far too quickly, and she had to learn the hard way that there were people that wanted to see her and her family dead for their blood. But none of that was Peterâs fault, and she had always liked him. He had been above her at school, but he had never treated her badly.Â
âSorry, long day,â she apologized. She didnât want to chase him off with her bad attitude. She raised an eyebrow. âTrue. The free drinks are a perk of the job,â she gave a real smile as she watched Peter for a moment before she took a sip from her own bottle and shrugged her shoulders. âJust felt like an obnoxiously long day, is all. Thirteen hour shifts are the worst. It seems like the other mediwitches are burning out or getting sick so itâs just left us all in a bit of a mess at the hospital,â she sighed. âWhatâs going on with you, though?â She gestured to his own bottle.
Mary was exhausted, but she knew that if she went straight home and got into bed, she would end up laying in bed for hours. Regardless of whether she got off shift at noon or at midnight, it was the same thing. She had just worked a nearly thirteen hour shift, and she just needed to get out of St. Mungoâs and back into things so she decided to pop into the Leaky Cauldron for a drink and some not hospital food. She had ordered a Firewhiskey and some fish and chips, and she was ready to just unwind. It always amazed her how even at midnight, the Leaky was filled with people. She had always loved the place, it had been her first introduction into Wizarding society, and there was something so...perfect about the whole place. She could sit there for hours, people watching, or sometimes she brought a book with her and she read as she ate. It had come of something of a routine, coming in after her shift, and she was glad for the routine.
She had just sat down to eat when she felt someone hovering. âCan I help you?â She asked.
