“I’m done running from my past.”

she’ll be coming face to face with the trauma of her past, her fears. and natasha’s greatest fear has always been herself; the person she thinks she is, the person whose sins cannot be absolved by doing good, the person who is only bad. (the deleted endgame scene with her fear being another version of herself? yes).

she doesn’t resent the person she is now, she never has. she took what they made her into, but chose the path she wanted to take. helping people, saving lives, protecting the innocent. she knows that’s who she is now, but she doesn’t see herself as a ‘hero’. to her, the bad she’s done will always outweigh the good. part of why she thought she was the obvious choice in endgame, and sadly, that choice of hers was very in character (regardless of the way it was written).

but whatever happens in this movie, it ends in self-forgiveness. in acceptance. this may be a prequel to endgame, but it feels more cathartic, healing. it feels like finally, we’re getting a clear look at natasha, her thoughts, her feelings, her fucking movie. black widow and cate shortland is doing what endgame and the russos never could; giving us closure.
