this is my first bakugou katsuki x oc short fic, i hope you all love it
Katsuki Bakugou was not having a good day.
The grenade gauntlet heâd damaged during a recent training session was still out of commission, and Power Loader had insisted he work directly with one of the 1-H Support Course students to fix it. Bakugou didnât usually care who touched his gearâso long as they didnât screw it upâbut today, he was irritable, and he didnât feel like making small talk with some tech geek who didnât know how to handle his explosive specs.
He stormed into the support lab, expecting noise, sparks, and chatter.
What he found instead was her.
A girl sitting quietly at a workbench, her delicate butterfly wings faintly glowing in the afternoon sunlight that streamed through the high windows. They fluttered onceâjust slightlyâwhen she noticed him. She didnât say anything right away, just gave him a tiny nod and motioned for him to sit.
ââŠAre you the one fixing my gear?â he asked gruffly.
She nodded again. âYes. Iâm Kanon Hibari. I specialize in lightweight materials and shock absorption.â
Her voice was soft, like the whisper of wind over petals. It didn't match the blast-heavy, aggressive tone of Bakugou's usual worldâbut oddly, it didnât irritate him. He narrowed his eyes. She looked like she belonged in a garden, not a workshop. The pastel shimmer of her wings pulsed gently as she pulled his gauntlet toward her.
âYouâre quieter than most of the support geeks,â he muttered, trying not to sound like he was complimenting her.
âI donât like loud things,â she said simply. âBut⊠Iâm not afraid of them.â
Bakugou blinked. That was the first time someone hadnât flinched at his presenceâor at least his reputation. He watched her as she worked, her fingers gliding over the metallic surface like she was tuning a delicate instrument. Her wings twitched now and then in concentration, tiny flecks of color floating off like dust motes.
ââŠThat your Quirk?â he asked after a while, nodding to the shimmering particles.
She glanced at her wings. âYes. Butterfly Wings. They react to emotions and light. I can use them to glide, and the scales have calming properties when I focus.â
Calming. That explained why he didnât feel like yelling for once.
Kanon glanced up. âYour gauntlet had a misaligned compression valve. I reinforced the chamber with a fiber weave to stabilize the recoil.â
Bakugou whistled low. âTch. Not bad.â
A faint blush rose to her cheeks. âThank you.â
He leaned forward, eyeing her wings more closely. âThey real?â
âThey grow from my back, yes,â she said shyly, turning slightly so he could see the base. âThey molt sometimes. Like real butterflies.â
Something flickered in his chestâsurprise? Amusement? He didnât know. All he knew was that, for once, he didnât want to storm out the second the job was done.
âYou ever think about making gear with those scales?â he asked.
âI do. Iâve been experimenting with integrating them into dampeners and rescue support items.â She looked at him, eyes soft. âWould you⊠like some? For your gloves, maybe? They might help stabilize the sparks before detonation.â
Bakugou stared at her, then barked a short laugh. âYouâre a strange one, Hibari.â
She smiled a little. âI get that a lot.â
As she handed him the newly repaired gauntlet, their fingers brushed. Her wings fluttered gentlyâjust onceâand Bakugou, who never cared much for softness, found himself lingering in the quiet air between them.
He didnât say thank you. Not out loud.
But as he walked away, the faint shimmer of butterfly dust trailed behind him.
And maybe, just maybe, he was already thinking about his next âaccidentalâ equipment malfunction.
