This was my first thought while reading the play. One person created so many problems for everyone. Othello clearly lost his mind but mentally it is incredibly difficult to be suspicious of a loved one and not know who's word to believe. Its hard to tell in the moment who is deceiving you.

I agree with you on this one. This play is just okay. There are a bunch of monologues which, for me, makes it way less interesting. The women in this play seem to be the only ones who think rationally in this play. It does seem like nothing special was occurring until the big finale at the end when crap really hits the fan

Richard did have very powerful language in the play. Unfortunately i could not get into it. I definitely see your point with Margaret's honesty. It definitely is easy to be sympathetic Clarence after he was killed.

Absolutely agree with everything you said. Same structure, different characters and slightly different story. I did not enjoy the play. I felt like the play could have been way shorter and told the same story. Thats just my opinion though.

You are all about the strong female characters. Nothing wrong with that though. I enjoyed Portia she was entertaining. I don't think that Bassanio and Antonio were closer than guys are now, I just think that the way friendship was represented and displayed was different then than it is now.

I agree that Portia was a great character. There really wasn't anything negative about her. I was surprised at the religious tensions on both the Christian and Jewish side. I think that the rings symbolized a promise to the person they loved.

I understand where you are coming from with this play. I was lost for a while when I was reading it but then all of the sudden it all made sense to me and I was able to enjoy it. I actually like Prospero because  he was a character that demanded respect and in the end of the play he seemed like an really good person. All he wanted back was his Dukedom and ones he had it, it was great. I thought Caliban was obnoxious throughout the entire play. I connected with Stefano and Trinculo just because of the comedy between them. I think it is interesting how certain parts of these plays touch each reader differently.

This is one of those plays where everything works out. This also happens in A Midsummer Night's Dream. I agree that Prospero was an honest man who just wanted his Dukedom back and he didn't intend to kill to do it. Ariel was an interesting character and she contributed a great amount to the story. I am glad the play turned out the way it did.
