And if you call me at 4 am, too sad to even say hello, I will listen to your silence until you fall asleep. If you need to cry I will not wipe your tears away because you are only human and sometimes tears are as close to laughter as you can get and that’s okay. If you get sleepy I will let you drool on my arm and I won’t laugh at you if you snore too loud. If you need to yell so hard that your voice cracks and your knees fail I will hold you up and yell with you. If you get so angry you punch your hands red I will ice your knuckles and tell you that wounds heal both inside and out, and just like the cold that is harsh and burning, I will always be the warmth to soothe you and make you feel better. I know he was lovely to you. Even though his heart was full of sadness, you only saw that his eyes were full of life. You were always walking on glass around him, afraid to set foot on a crack in case it shattered him. And I saw you hold his hand, so tentatively as if a sudden movement could break his bones. He was a fragile man with a beautiful soul, and I knew that you’d be his, if he’d asked. But perhaps your biggest letdown was the fact that although he was lonely, he was not selfish. He didn’t want to subject you to the pains of loving a broken man. But what he didn’t know was that you already did. Oh, darling, you loved him with all that you had.

I’ll be willing to provide a week’s worth of coffee or ‘insert your preferred beverage here’ to the person who can provide me with a quick and easy way to get deal with a cold. A sore throat and stuffy nose really gets in the way when you have back to back papers and exams with limited cramming time. Extra points if it’s actually a serious recommendation. Also, professors suck.
