in the midst of your silence

your fear screams throughout

the creature of your being

and bounces within the hollow of

your chest where your heart

should be

i have placed a chair there

so that you may sit in that

hollow spot and feel everything that scares you

to face your humanity is to

face your pain both your own

and mine and that of your friend

and your neighbor

and even your enemy

to face your pain

is to face the truth

the truth is terrifying

the silence is paralyzing

the truth will set you free

and in turn set me free

the liberation of others will

never arrive until you

see the power in the liberation

of yourself

you call for peace

but you seek peace you do not even hold

within yourself

i will not wait for you

to know this

instead i will dance

and rejoice

and hope and hope and hope

i will hold hands

i will break bread

and love and love and love

and when you are ready

we will unclasp our hands

to let you in

and then we can learn

to begin
