Okay so I don't actually know where to begin and this probably won't make sense BUT when Lydia and Stiles go to see Valek, the man who walks them down says that the mountain ash, frequencies and electricity stuff (I can't remember word for word) was designed to keep certain supernaturals out and other in. Hence why Scott and Kira can't get in however Lydia can, which brings me to the actual point I'm trying to make, Lydia CAN cross it, so is she a supernatural that is meant to be kept in??? Like her grandmother? From what I saw most of the supernatural creatures that were locked away seemed to have a mind control/manipulation element, like when Stiles saw Donovan because of that creature. I don't actually know where I'm going with this point???? I'm rambling please ignore me
