one of my all time favorite shoujo mangas

i love these two… so much. their relationship is unusual, but that’s what makes it interesting… for two such broken people to come together and create a stable relationship… that’s freaking awesome :)

Kira Aso from the manga Mars is my manga self. If I ever find a character who is more like me than she is, I will be very surprised. We are both shy artists. While that might not sound that impressive, it’s important to me since being the shy artist is what most people have known me as my whole life. Throughout our childhoods, especially in school, we avoided people because we did not know how to start conversations. People thought we were mute. We would draw all the time, and that defined who we were. Our classmates admired us for that, but thought we were weird because we didn’t speak. We weren’t doing it on purpose, there was just nothing to talk about. Art has always been our passions. Everyone encourages us to become artists. This might sound silly, but we both love pretty men. If I had seen a man pretend to kiss a statue of Apollo, I would have been blown away by the romanticism of it too. We both had something happen to us as children that made is afraid. My circumstance was not as bad as hers, but it was similar in nature. In my mind it felt like something horrible had happened. I don’t know if it is what made me a quiet person, but it definitely effected me as Kira’s past effected her. I don’t hate all men like she did, but I was a little extra timid around them. Another slight difference is that she paints, whereas I mostly draw graphic novels. I met a young man who was tall and handsome, with long hair and droopy eyes like Rei. I will try not to get into details about the relationship, since that is an entirely different story (see my Inu X Boku SS post), but this man gave me confidence and love. He changed me into the woman I am today. It took a while for me to return his feelings, but he taught me how to love others and myself, just like Rei did for Kira. There are specific examples in the manga that remind me especially of myself, but I don’t remember the details at the moment. Anyway, I probably ranted long enough. I love this manga.
