the concept of angels is so completely fascinating to me, but not in like the Christian "be not afraid" way. I'm talking beings who believe that they are perfect and that they're only doing what's right for the person they have been sent to protect, even if their actions are immoral (or even better if their actions negatively impact their human). Tunnel vision given sentience, clingy and obsessive to the point of devotion. They'd kill for their human, they'd steal, they'd lie, they'd defy their maker because they believe that's what their human needs.
It's never about what the human wants. These angels as a species view themselves as almost above humanity - they see it similarly to how we'd see stopping a dog running into traffic. They don't think we're lesser necessarily, just that we aren't as good at decision making and need to be guided for our own safety. And the worst part is that they don't see that people need to make mistakes in order to improve because they don't believe in self improvement. Why would they? They already believe they're at the pinnacle of holiness, and they're so devoted to their human that they look past obvious flaws. This leaves the human stuck in a weird situation because here is something divine and otherworldly that adores them beyond comprehension and claims to know what's best for them. They struggle to communicate that the angel is in fact holding them back because it's comforting to know that someone will always be on their side. The human struggles falling in love because the angel gets jealous and tries to sabotage the relationship, claiming it'll fail and they're just doing their job by protecting their heart. You can't argue with literal divine intervention.

You need to watch all of these because I say so (they're so good just trust me bro)
1) Howl's Moving Castle - a classic. A tad bit pretentious of me maybe, but I've loved it since I was literally seven years old, and it's the pride and joy of my DVD collection. Couldn't live without it! The music is magical as well, like Joe Hisashi deserves the world for the service he has done in creating The Merry Go Round of Life.
2) Lisa Frankenstein - this one is easily an underrated gem. Now this is the kind of romance I can get behind. Everything is just flawless, from the lighting to the ACTING and don't even get me started on the costumes. I'm obsessed.
3) Edward Scissorhands - this one holds a very dear place in my heart. That scene where Kim goes outside while Edward is making the ice statue and she starts dancing because it's the first time she's ever seen snow is such a beautiful moment and it makes me cry every time. It's a masterpiece in my opinion and Winona Ryder is just perfect. The ending breaks my heart every time I rewatch it, which is admittedly more than I probably should.
4) Labyrinth - such a fun movie. I love fantasy anyway but this film is so captivating and magical, the world (and David Bowie) just draws you in. The colours as well are you kidding? Superb. I cannot tell you how much time and energy I have spent obsessing over Sarah's dress, like I'm being so serious if anyone wants to buy me that dress I'll marry them on the spot. Possibly one of the best parts though is the SOUNDTRACK. It's scrumptious god I love the 80s.
5) Ghostbusters - ANOTHER CLASSIC. I'm fairly sure this is like required watching for anyone with taste and a pulse. The group dynamic is exactly what I want in a friend group and Bill Murray's dry humour gets me every time. This is an ultimate feel good movie for me, like it's impossible to be sad if you're watching Ghostbusters. Also the theme song is impeccable π€
6) Back To The Future - another feel good movie in my opinion. Again, ELITE soundtrack, Johnny B Goode is an amazing song. And the casting? Flawless. If you know me in the real outside world, I reference Back To The Future a lot because it's just a classic. I am Marty McFly without my Jennifer, which is tragic.
7) Hairspray (2007) - THE ONLY THING BETTER THAN HAIRSPRAY....thaaaat's meeee! OK but seriously the movie adaptation of this musical is so good. I've not actually watched the original 1988 Hairspray but I probably should. Say what you want about Nicky Blonskie (she's not a great person, look it up), but her chemistry with Zac Efron is adorable. Although the best couple has to be Seaweed and Penny, like listen to any of the songs they're in together and try to disagree. You can't. Speaking of songs, the soundtrack to this is on repeat in my house (many apologies to my siblings, who have heard a lot of James Marsden since I got into this movie).
8) Beetlejuice - yes yes another Winona Ryder, but can you blame me? I literally have a Beetlejuice poster in my bedroom, it's safe to say I'm a fan. The red wedding dress is iconic, and the movie is generally silly fun. I want to say paranormal dark fantasy? Whatever it is, it's GOOD. The combination of Lydia Deetz and Barbara Maitland was probably step one of my lesbian awakening I'll be so real with you guys. Tim Burton is a GENIUS director.
9) Pretty Woman - it's heartwarming and I love it. Julia Roberts is genuinely fantastic. Another movie with a stunning soundtrack by the way, I have the soundtrack on CD and it's great whats not to love. This is easily my favourite rom com, which can be considered controversial but I will stand my ground. And the ending is just so sweet, I'm glad they changed it from the original idea.
10) Heathers (1989) - this one was the hardest to pick because honestly I have so many favourites but I had to pick it. Winona Ryder makes an appearance again, and she has some of the most badass quotes in the movie ("my teen angst bullshit has a body count" HELLO? DROPPING BARS?). This film has reached cult classic status for a reason, and despite debuting 37 years ago, a lot of the themes are still extremely relevant today, which isn't always the case in movies made around that time (like the Goonies would have been over a lot quicker if Life360 was involved, that's all I'll say on that).
BONUS NUMBER 11) Corpse Bride - another movie that's really special to me. I grew up on this movie. It was actually the theme of my parent's wedding, which is super sweet and makes the story have a lot of sentimental value personally. And the songs are fire. I've always felt a connection to Emily in some way - I vividly remember HATING Victoria as a small child because I wanted Emily to win, I wanted her happiness because she was so much like me. Now I'm older and have significantly mellowed out, I've realised that Emily was dealt a bad hand and fell in love with someone she shouldn't have (something I relate to unfortunately), but she got the best ending she possibly could have. She got peace. I think she's the reason I love butterflies. I might make another post about corpse bride actually because I feel very passionate about this. Also there's a track in this movie called "Moon Dance", and I just want you to know it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music ever made and it resonates with me on a spiritual level.

Being asexual and racist is embarassing as fuck. Being racist at all is obviously embarassing as fuck but the amount of racism and especially antiblackness i have been seeing from asexuals recently is obscene.
One of the only asexual activists is Yasmin Benoit, a Black woman. She has raised so much awareness for the community. She was the first asexual person to lead Pride in London, she started the #thisiswhatasexuallookslike movement and is THE leading voice for the community.
And you all will celebrate international asexuality day on April 6th but we wouldn't even have that if she hadn't cofounded it.
