eva does in fact have a (beautiful, breathtaking, smart, amazing ) wife, but it never comes up because

a) they're both very autistic and approach relationships in their own way

b) they each enjoy having their own space

c) they're both incredibly busy (her wife is the head surgeon at a big hospital)

d) Eva is aromantic and not really into all that lovey-dovey behaviour anyway.

the important part is that whatever secret third thing she develops with grace just fits perfectly into the existing dynamic anyway.

it also means that eventually her wife visits her on the vat and grace is like "wait you're married???? why did you never say anything?" and eva just looks at him straight-faced and goes "you never asked".
