ofhero:
“to be honest, i’m not really an expert on what the bible did or didn’t say.” hero would never admit it to his grandfather (and now he never could), but catholicism was no match for his idealistic nature. he recalled reading the scriptures and being horrified by the vindictive god presented in it. still, he tried to be a good christian in principle, if nothing else. it cost him nothing, right? “i would’ve thought that god would be more chill now, though. or hoped.”
“well, i wouldn’t really say i am either. i mean, i’ve read it— the bible that is, out of more curiosity than anything, but... it’s not like i’ve ever been to church.” marni replies with a shrug. after all, with the way she was raised, her father would probably disown her if marni ever took a step into an actual church. that would be it, the resounding proof and final nail on the coffin, because marni could never truly be his daughter if she was willing to praise the same god as her grandparents. “but... i mean, if we’re assuming that god is the one who put us all here in the first place, then... i can’t imagine he has any plans of chilling out any time soon. so you should probably stop that. hoping, i mean. you’re likely only going to be disappointed. no offence.”
zacxabraham:”
“Right, I forgot you were allergic to the fun stuff. I mean, I got an epi-pen if you finally wanna give it a go. I’ll throw you in a free molly too, maybe then you’d finally grow to love me. Even if only for a….brief moment in time.” he teases, but he’d never actually force her to do what she did not wish to do. That was a way with Zac, to let people be who and what they are. “Why yes, I’m right a whole lot more than people expect for some reason. I mean, who knows all these people better than me? Name one person. Ha, you can’t! Because it’s me. – Surprised I’ve not been elected a leader yet. Though perhaps it’s for the best…I know nothing about running things. I’d have made a better leader in the other world, you know…where in order to be elected president you must by default be a moron?” he joked, but it was more a dig at the system than it was at himself. Zac was aware of his own limitations, of the fact that he wanted to make everyone happy and couldn’t really say no. He wouldn’t last a day as a leader in a world like this. “You say don’t but that was a brilliant idea. I think I might actually turn some of my poems into rap songs. Maybe I can do a political piece, I’ll call it — “The adventures of Minnie and her flock of sheep, dancing towards the end of the world. How deep.” See, I’m already making it rhyme.”
“I am not allergic to fun. I’m plenty of fun, okay?” Marni has to roll her eyes at Zac’s teasing, lips twitching despite her best effort to keep her amusement stifled and hidden where Zac can’t get encouraged by it. “But despite how fun I am, I have no plans of loving you or doing molly with you tonight, Zac. You’ll just have to live with the disappointment of that, I’m afraid.” Marni can only arch a brow in surprise at the impromptu political turn in conversation, head cocking as she says, “I mean, if you were going against our current president in that world, I can’t say that you wouldn’t have been a welcomed alternative. That said, I can’t say that I would have voted for you without having any idea what your campaign would have been.” Marni crosses her arms over her chest as she regards Zac thoughtfully, smoothly saying, “So, go on then. What would your policies have been, Mr. Abraham? What would have been the issues you would have focused on?” Marni isn’t honestly expecting Zac to have a groundbreaking campaign, after all, once again, this is Zac she’s talking to. But she is curious to see what he’ll come up with. Honestly most of the reasons Marni engages with Zac is out of curiosity for what he’ll say. That said, Marni has to wrinkle her nose at Zac’s ‘political piece’, shaking her head and very honestly saying, “That is terrible. And way too long to be a title. Also I can’t imagine it’d go over well with you calling all of your audience a flock of sheep.” She looks Zac very firmly in the eye then, brow arched as she says, “I want you to know it physically pains me to say this, but I think you should stick to poetry.”
josiexlawrence:
“I guess not, no. Being cornered is not the same as having a choice, but manipulating the system has been a real thing for centuries so – who’s to say our definition of a party has to match theirs? Really and truly, we can fuck off at any point…say we got fucked off drugs and wandered off…” she didn’t really understand the logistics of the whole party situation. Unless they were all assigned a supervisor, there was no simple way of keeping track of who’s coming and going. And simple way happened to be the only way that worked for a bunch of idiot college kids stuck in such a confined town. “Don’t you sometimes just wish that we weren’t stuck here? Here as in Halloway. Like yeah fine, let’s say this whole “the world vanishing” thing just had to happen…why the fuck did it have to happen here? It’s so fucking stupid, like…imagine if we were in New York. All the space, the food….we wouldn’t even need a system. We wouldn’t even have to fucking interact with most of these people, nevermind sleep on top of each other like sardines. But anyway…” she realised she went on a tangent, not unusual for this time of the day. She was getting hungry. “Honestly, we should just get Tatum and the booze and fuck off to Mr Jackson’s house — one with the pool at the edge of Halloway? Have our own little party….not to mention the AC may still work.”
“... You know what, you’re right. I mean, generally I’m not really one for bending rules because no matter what anyone says, they were not made to be broken. But this is a notable exception.” Marni pauses to think about it for a moment, fantasizing about Mr. Jackson’s house, his pool, and being able to have a small private party with people she actually enjoys the company of. It makes the decision pretty easy. “Fuck it, let’s do it. Let’s absolutely fuck off. I mean, nothing is stopping us the moment enough people have seen us there to testify to the fact that we went. Let’s ditch.” Marni’s words are slightly faster with the adrenaline of even the thought of doing something she technically shouldn’t. She suddenly gets the appeal. It is a bit of a thrill isn’t it? Marni glances over to Jo then, easily adding, “That said, I haven’t thought to wish for anything like that but... you’re right. Getting stuck here of all places really is some kind of sick joke. I mean, New York would be amazing. For all the reasons you listed, but also... Columbia’s there, and they have a great library. I mean, not to seem ungrateful for what we have but... it really would be a dream come true.” Marni pauses another moment to silently fantasize, eyes far off as she looks up to their stormy sky above them. But walking through this thick humidity is like wading through warm butter, and Marni is broken out of her reverie by the sensation of a drop of sweat making it’s way down the nape of her neck. She moves to pull her hair up away from the skin there in attempt to cool it as she looks at Jo curiously. “... If you could be stuck anywhere but here, where would you want to be stuck? Like anywhere in the world. Or outside of the world, I’ll accept fictional options as well. Like... Narnia. Or Diagon Alley.”
tatuums:
ALTHOUGH TATUM spends a lot of her time in self-loathing, the truth is her reality doesn’t reflect the worry in her head. it’s not all so bad. she quite loves her siblings, even if it’s painful to think and go on without two of them with her, and her best friends really couldn’t get any better. it’s almost selfish to be as sad is she is. but her mind is a prison that won’t let out, and all she can do is have people like marni who don’t always understand, but always try. “ i think you and jo are probably the only reasons i’m even here. everything’s so chaotic. things felt hard before and now… ” she shrugs, eyes turning distant with a wrinkle of her nose. “ it feels impossible. like we’re dying a long death and i just want it to hurry up or something. but it doesn’t feel like that when i’m hanging out with you guys. ” she swallows hard, cheeks flushed even harder when she realizes how dark she’s unintentionally gotten. this is why she shouldn’t voice the narration in her head. quickly, she backpedals, unwilling to worry marni more than necessary. it didn’t always need to be a tatum pity-party. it shouldn’t. “ sorry. it’s really not so bad.. i mean there’s a party. even if there’s a storm. ” she gracefully takes the out of finding jo and searching for the basement instead, thoughts trailing off to wondering where her friend can be. “ i don’t see jo anywhere around the pool, did she tell you she was heading off somewhere? ”
MARNI WISHES she was better at things like this for tatum’s sake more than her own. she doesn’t even know where to begin with that. doesn’t even know how to even start to make a feeling like that better, because she’s never felt like that herself so, how was she suppose to know what words would magically apply a balm to tatum’s existential dread. what would make living in this horrible place they find themselves in more bearable. she doesn’t know, and she doesn’t think she ever will. so she reluctantly allows tatum move on, even if just for the moment. “... no, she didn’t say anything to me. i was hoping she might have said something to you.” marni mumbles thoughtfully as she glances around the pool in search of their friend. she can’t spot jo’s dark head of curls anywhere, but the more she looks the more than marni feels the urge to fill the silence with the words on her tongue. because even if marni has no idea what to say, she wants to say something. and marni could never resist the urge to be honest. “you know... you never have to apologize for saying what’s on your mind. at least not with me. i mean,” marni flicks her tongue over her lips before she’s turning back from the crowd to squint at tatum. “that’s what friends are for, right?” marni pauses a moment to attempt to compile her words, which is rare for her, but she feels like it’s necessary in this moment. after all, if whatever she said just ended up making tatum cry she’d feel pretty bad about it. “and... i know that this probably doesn’t help, but technically, in any environment, not just weird apocalyptic ones, life is just... a very slow march towards death. you’re born, and then you die. the march longer for some people. shorter for others. i plan to make my march as long as possible because i’ve got things i want to know. and i’d be very sad if you weren’t around for most of it. so yeah, don’t die. please.” marni ends up giving up on any attempt at softening the blow with metaphors, words as blunt as ever before she’s nodding simply with the statement as she adds, “i know you don’t want to talk about this, so you don’t have to answer me, okay? i just wanted to say that. but now,” marni moves to push herself up to stand, the quite splash of her feet leaving the water pretty much unheard with the pounding music. “i’m gonna try to find jo. stay here in case she comes back to the pool?”

tatuums:
IT MUST BE DAUNTINGto face life so head-on all the time. tatum can’t understand it, because even though she’s been forced to do so most of her life, escaping every once in a while is the only way she can stay momentarily sane. marni just does it without a second thought –– tatum isn’t quite sure how. “ reality is bleak, anyway. might as well get the few moments of happiness while you can. even if it’s not real. ” and that’s that on pessimism.
she wouldn’t dare acknowledge marni’s gestures as awkward. it might be unnatural for marni, but that only makes tatum’s heart swell a little more. how couldn’t she appreciate someone making the extra effort just to comfort her? “ i don’t really feel like getting wet. ” really, she’s worried her clothes will stick too close to her after and she doesn’t want to be in a crowd of people at a party with clothes that cling to every part of her she doesn’t want to see. she swallows the thought and turns to marni with a half-smile. “ i know scientifically speaking, but you have to admit. they do feel worse at night. spookier. and i have a feeling this one is just getting started. ” there’s a little pause at the suggestion of trying to find the basement, but tatum shakes her head. “ don’t think it’s come to that yet. but maybe we should go see where it is, just in case things go south.. ”
“WELL,” MARNI TILTS HER HEAD in agreement at that, brows arched as she says, “i can’t argue with that.” marni is quiet for a moment as she looks out at the pool thoughtfully, silently staring at the blurry reflections of the storm above in its surface for a few moments before she’s honestly saying, “although, i will say i’m pretty happy when i’m around you and jo. or at least... content.” marni turns to meet tatum’s eyes then, shrugging simply as she adds, “no alcohol needed for that.”
marni nods simply at tatum’s easy verdict, not pushing it any further because again, she didn’t really want to get wet in the first place. while the humidity was thick and on the edge of stifling, marni was in her thinnest dress so she’d survive. and besides, she was fine with letting tatum make these kinds of decisions. after all if marni had no strong feelings towards the whole thing, than why not? marni’s lips twitch at tatum’s words, brows furrowing as she repeats, “spookier. now, i don’t know about that. i will say that you do seem like you were one of those little kids who was afraid of storms though. i’m glad to have that confirmed.” marni nods slowly at tatum’s conclusion, really willing to do pretty much anything if it’ll set tatum at ease a bit. besides, what else was she doing? swimming? drinking? no, searching for a basement was a welcomed alternative. “okay. let’s find jo, and then when we’re all together we’ll all go to find out where the basement is just in case. and if things really do get bad we’ll all head down there together and be safe. sound good?”

DARK LOCKS FLOAT ON THE SURFACE —– her limbs is what keeps anika on top, not drowning and her face is lifted, eyes filled with joy as she glances up at the other. she’s enjoying herself at this event, despite not wearing the appropriate swimwear, but she supposes that spontaneity doesn’t hurt. the cool water laps against her skin. “what on earth are you doing out there?” she asks the other. “we’re at a POOL PARTY for gods’ sake.
MARNI ARCHES HER BROW AS anika speaks, bewilderedly looking over her shoulder just to make sure she wasn’t speaking to someone behind her instead. but no one else is looking at anika, so the words really must be directed at marni of all people. she can’t begin to understand why. “...well, i’m uni-cycling of course. can’t you tell?” marni replies dryly as she clutches the phone she was reading on slightly tighter in her hand. the words are awkward more because of the company than the joke, but after a moments pause marni continues, “everyone knows pool parties aren’t really for swimming. they’re more of an excuse for everyone to show off how hot they look half clothed and get wildly fucked up than anything else.” marni gestures to anika, “and you look like you’re doing a good enough job of both for the both of us, so i don’t really see a need for me to get wet.”

HE WASN’T IN THE MOOD FOR PARTYING —– it was odd to see him like this, but perhaps it was because harry had a feeling that something bad was about to happen. he took refuge in the library away from the pool, the scent of the old volumes on the shelves and in messy piles, dust in the air and the sun rays breaking through them. the place looked more like a church than anything. harry disrupted it, taking a drag from the cigarette and exhaling; he was glad that he still had one pack of those in his pocket. there was a loud THUD from across the room. “you know you’re supposed to be quiet in here, right?” he gestured to the sign that was hastily taped on the nearby column. “imagine if marge walked in and saw your dumbass knock her stack to the floor…”
MARNI HAD FOUND HERSELF IN THE LIBRARY purely out of habit. after all, it was where she spent most of her time in university. parties never really were her thing, and after latching on at the opportunity to leave, get some air, and search for her friend, her feet just naturally led her to the place she’d prefer to be; among the tall stacks, breathing in the smell of old paper, and soaking in the silence. or well, muffled music at the very least. honestly, marni had thought she was alone for a good amount of time, simply looking through one of the shelves for a suitable reward to come away from this party with, because truly, she should get something for enduring all this. it wasn’t until she caught movement from him out of the corner of her eye that marni even noticed him, and promptly dropped the book she was examining in her surprise. “shit. sorry.” marni says immediately, honestly more to the book than anything, as she bends to pick up the fallen novel. it’s as she’s straightening that registers his words, gaze quickly hardening at the insult. “okay, i dropped a book. i didn’t set off an airhorn. i’m sure marge will understand.” marni squints at him for a moment then, eyes widening as she asks, “are you... smoking in here?” marni asks in blatant disbelief, “surrounded by all this very flammable, and pretty much irreplaceable, material? because, what, it was too much trouble to just go outside?” marni can’t resist the urge to roll her eyes, moving to slide the book in her hands back into it’s place as she says, “and you have the gal to scold me?”
tatuums:
“ THAT’S BECAUSE you can’t ignore the truth, even if you try. ” it was a quality that both stumped tatum and drew admiration. marni couldn’t enjoy herself if things weren’t right, no matter what distractions were around. and she isn’t wrong – the situation doesn’t change no matter how many layers you try to cake over it – but it’s nice to try. “ sometimes you can’t change your circumstances, marni. and sometimes you just don’t wanna be sad about it for a bit. everyone’s head needs a break every once in a while. ” everyone had their ways of doing so. for tatum it was usually alcohol, though with less music and people, or it was sleeping. she couldn’t fix all her problems, but she could go into a four hour coma so she didn’t have to deal with them. she doesn’t resist when marni moves her hand. it’s a habit she really needs to kick, but has unfortunately only grown worse with the uncertainty of the end of the world. “ idunno where we would go… and it’s so hot, marni. i feel claustrophobic. ” the anxiety is bubbling up in her throat faster than she realizes and she sucks in a breath of hot air to stop it. “ i think it’s only going to get worse. i feel like storms are always worse at night. ”
MARNI SIGHS deeply at tatum’s explanation, combing her fingers through her hair tiredly. she knows she’s right, mostly because tatum’s always been a bit better at this stuff than her. empathizing wasn’t exactly marni’s specialty. how was she supposed to understand other people’s emotions when she barely understood her own? “...i guess i can understand... escapism.” marni allows grudgingly. “for other people that is. i just... i don’t understand how facing reality after attempting to run away from it won’t just make it all seem more bleak than it did before.” marni watches tatum carefully as she frets, her hand moving to pat her friends thigh in an awkward way she can only hope is reassuring. “do you want to go in the water then? if you’re hot. it might help.” marni suggest reasonably with a shrug. honestly, marni had no plans on actually getting into the water tonight, but if it’d help tatum calm down she’d do it. she flicks her tongue over her dry lips at tatum’s assessment, her eyes flicking back to the rumbling sky as she says, “logically, storms are no worse at night than they are during the day.” marni squints at the sky before she’s honestly adding, “but... i agree. it’ll probably get worse before it gets better. and that’s if it gets better at all.” marni glances at tatum for a moment before she’s adding, “if you’re scared, we can go hide in the basement or something. i mean, this place has to have a basement and it’d probably be the safest place in case of a hurricane.”

“Yo, there’s a million people coming this way! What did I tell you? Think the end of the world is gonna stop a bunch of college kids from drinking their brains out? Hell nah…” proud of his own rather predictable predicton, Zac turns around to face the other a grin now decorating his face. “Brilliant. I hope we got enough food though, d-did you, is the mic working did you ceck? Actually, nevermind that I’ll get Alex to fuck with the music stuff. Is that? Have you got weed?”
“... Zac, you’re asking me if I have weed? Me?” Marni asks with a pointed arch of her brow, but she doesn’t quite know what she expected. This is Zac, after all. “I’ve never even smoked. Or been high. Or been drunk.” Marni reminds him with a sigh as she pokes her head out to watch the hordes of college kids come their way with something only akin to dread. She was not looking forward to this nearly as much as Zac was, and she saw no point in hiding it. “But you were right. Congratulations. Nothing is going to stop people from getting shitfaced in the apocalypse. We’re all going to be dancing towards the end of the world. Maybe you can turn one of your poems into a rap and lead the charge.” Marni pauses for a moment before adding, “that was a joke. Please don’t do that.”
𝖔𝖕𝖊𝖓 –– 𝙝𝙖𝙡𝙡𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙪𝙣𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙩𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙩𝙮𝙖𝙧𝙙 .
dripping hair fell over her shoulders , still wet from an unexpected dip into the pool , but she was thankful for it . against bare skin , the slight cooling effect was welcomed . she’d been changing in study hall b when the lights cut out , pulling on something dry only to have everything go dark … until the sky illuminated an electric green . it’s too hot , they’d said , stay indoors … but she. had already snatched up her bottle and tied up her laces . now , she stood staring at a dark sky splintered by green lightening , wisps of color wrapping themselves over and under clouds . “ what the fuck ? ” she whispered to herself , furrowing her brow and glancing back down to the bottle , reading the label again — just in case . footsteps came from behind , but she didn’t bother to move , looking back up into the clouds instead , “ you see this shit , too , right ? ” trippy , she thought to herself , before something flew across her vision . memories of the better parts of childhood the past year practically erased jolted to life in her brain , and she grinned . smacking the person next to her , laughter laced. her words , “ was that fucking lightening bug ? ”
marni didn’t really think she was going to run into anybody outside. she figured most people would, pretty reasonably honestly, be scared to go out in the lightning storm. she could understand why. if marni wasn’t going out for her own reasons, she’d likely be back inside enjoying what was left of the festivities, or more likely, avoiding what was left of the festivities. but she very much does, have her own reason that is. with her notebook and pencil handy, she was determined to record as much information about what’s going as she could. that said, once again, she wasn’t expecting to see anybody, but she especially wasn’t expecting to see max. and what seems to be a less than sober max to boot. great. “don’t worry, i’m seeing it too, you’re not that drunk.” marni replies easily as she pulls away from max’s good natured smacking, only to flinch back sharply as a bug gets a bit too close to her face. she stumbles back a few steps with a wrinkle of her nose, steps quickening to avoid the insect as she says, “god, that or some mutated version of one likely. or maybe an entirely new species, i-- okay,” marni claps at the bug following her threateningly, and it quickly buzzes away. she follows it with her eyes for a bit but as her gaze gets higher it catches on-- “oh my god.” marni’s eyes are wide and round as she looks at the sea of colour in the distance, mouth gaping for a moment before she speaks. “is that... the aurora borealis?” her brows furrow. “that... cannot be the aurora borealis.”
features twisted playfully , brows arched with a tiny perk as she glanced back at the other . “ hey , it’s not funny— don’t laugh .” arms cross in front of her chest , but her gaze softens into something similar . “i’m not afraid of the dark , i just um-” bottom lip is tugged between her teeth and she’ll finally let out an exasperated grin . “ i never learned how to swim , alright ? i think i’d rather get lost in the storm outside, than have all of halloway watch me doggy paddle to save my life .” smaller frame slips from their gaze , and around the lecture hall , which coincidentally , has been cut off from power . the only light that crackles through the glass windows , is of a green hue with the taunt of lightening . she’s drawn to it , but instead , perches herself on one of the desk , using her phone to shine a lightway for the other . “ in good news , i stole some liquor from danny yearling , and he even let me keep his flask . ” maya is shuffling , reaching into her back pocket and outstretches the metal vile with a little shake . “ ta-da ! let’s ignore the problem until it goes away , or we’re too drunk to remember— ”
i’m not laughing. marni can only think to herself as she rolls her eyes towards the ceiling. she is standing with her back turned to maya as she faces the window, arms crossed over her chest as she deeply hopes the blonde catches onto her disinterest sooner rather than later. she doesn’t, and marni isn’t sure if it’s because maya is just used to people always pretending to be interested in what she wants to say or if she just likes the sound of her own voice. in the end, marni mostly tunes her out, only really digesting the knowledge that maya macmillan is afraid of the dark and can’t swim. her life has obviously been devoid of colour without that information. she’s glad to have it now. “i’m good.” marni replies curtly at maya’s offer, not so much as glancing at maya from where she’s staring intently out the window at the weather outside. the green tinge of the lightning periodically lights up her features, painting them in eery shadows that only highlights the indifferent expression on marni’s face. “i’m not really one for avoiding my problems or, you know... slowly allowing this environment to turn me into an alcoholic. i mean, i understand that it’s likely inevitable for most of us considering the circumstances, but i’d like to avoid becoming apart of that statistic.” marni says bluntly with a shrug, for a moment before she’s narrowing her eyes as lightning strikes down worryingly close to where her family home roughly is. well. it’s not like she had any particularly fond memories there anyways. she’s distracted as she finally adds, “ ...but you go right ahead. don’t let me stop you.”
THERE’S NOT enough in her system for her to be plastered with a smile yet –- instead she sits by the pool, water only up to just above her ankles as she gnaws away the skin on the thumb. something about the air feels wrong – it’s much too hot, and tatum who never wants to swim feels the urge to get in just to cool off. the idea of it is making her anxious. “ the sky looks terrifying. ” she murmurs, eyebrows pulling into a frown. “ is it the best idea to stay out here? ” she makes no move to leave. after all, it’s not as though she’s entirely afraid to die and all that waits for her in her bed is her never ending circle of thoughts. she barely laughs, but it’s there. “ or maybe just take a page out of everyone’s book. ignore and cope with alcohol. ”
“... I DON’T THINK i could do that if i wanted to.” marni says as she looks up at the sky with a pinched nose and tilted head, brows furrowed at tatum’s words. she wrinkles her toes in the warm pool water, and silently agrees with tatum. the sky does look terrifying. “just... numb myself until i can pretend everything’s fine. i mean... i suppose i understand the appeal of it as a coping mechanism but... it just seems like a foolish choice. nothing will change if you just pretend everything is fine. it still won’t be.” marni’s lips purse as she shakes her head, shrugging jerkily before she simply says, “I don’t know. i just don’t think i’m designed for it. but you’re right. things are looking pretty bad.” marni turns to look at tatum then, glancing from her face to the thumb in her mouth and wordlessly reaching out to pull her wrist down, and her hand out of harms way. she did not doubt tatum’s ability to worry the skin until it bled. “...if you want to go somewhere else, i’ll go with you.”
“Agh, I don’t know if I even wanna go. Everyone’s gonna be there all sweaty and shit. Also, I’ve checked the damn kitchen staff for today and lemme just tell you the food situation does not look promising…” Jo sighs but finds herself compelled to follow the other. “Okay fine, fine. There better be some tobacco and ice there, this heat is getting unbearable and I need a smoke. – Well then, are you coming or what?”
“I mean, do I have a choice?” Marni asks with a brow arched in question, frowning for a moment before she adds, “because if I do, the answer is no. But if the only two options are still this or sweeping the streets then--” Marni throws her hands up in the air in frustration, eyes rolling as she says, “I guess sweaty hoards of people I don’t like and dying at the hands of Tatum’s food is the only valid option.” Marni quickens her pace to keep up with Jo, lips still tugged down into a frown before she sighs. “ At least we’ll go quickly and surrounded by drunks and kegs. Truly what more could we ask for?”

his trusty guitar encased behind him, hero couldn’t help cracking a smile as the storm brewed. maybe – well, probably – it was some form of quiet hysteria. after all, every single thing that’d happened since the whole… disappearance of society incident has been nothing short of surreal. the young man pointed at the sky, with its green lightning bolts and booming thunder. he was almost always frightened these days, but right now he was entertained.
“you know, when i imagined god to take me someday,” he said, “i didn’t picture him to be quite this melodramatic.”
marni has to do a double take after her first glance at him. the amused reaction was truly that odd. she had been staring up at the sky with a furrowed brow herself, completely bewildered by the state of it, and deep in thought at what could have caused it, what it could all mean. but it was nice to know that at least someone was having fun with the apocalyptic hell hole they now found themselves in. well, it seemed like most people were. marni could never understand it, but hero wasn’t alone in his lackadaisical viewpoint.
“... really?” marni asks dryly as she turns her gaze back to the sky intently, brow arched as she asks, “are we talking about the same all powerful entity that turned a woman to salt just for taking a glance behind her? because honestly, i’m surprised he’s not being more dramatic. i believe the bible promised hellfire?”
