Welcome to the We Go Lower AU!

This is an Expedition 33 AU where Gustave is a painted creation of Clea's made specifically to watch over Alicia, and be a disruption to the painted Dessendres long enough to let the Painters destroy the canvas. He's known that he would need to help facilitate the end of the only world he's known, but the more he lives in it, the more he doubts. Clea based Gustave off of a family friend of the Dessendres, a canvas maker who apprenticed under Aline who sadly died years before the manor fire. He was such an essential part of their lives that Aline still gave the painted family memories of him, Verso especially. Is that messed up of Clea to do? Sure, but Aline already went low making a copy of their family in the canvas Clea and Verso played in as children, so, as the name of the AU suggests....

This is a Verstave AU, since the real Verso and Gustave had a lil thing going that the painted versions now have to deal with. Clea knows a little more than their mother when it came to her brother and Gustave's "closeness". This is also very much going to be canon divergent so don't worry if there are some inconsistencies.

Verso and Gustave finally met, but their discussion must unfortunately end sooner than expected.
