Good. Answer.
The muse isnât a helpful munchkin, sheâs more of a high-handed society chick that stops by unannounced and lounges on your sofa shouting idea while you do all the work.
iâm starting a habit of journaling daily
writing notes on audit topics with which i should already be familiar and am actually comfortable, but iâm convinced that if i donât write them down they will evaporate from my brain and i wonât stand a chance on the cfe
additionally, this starbucks was so loud and distracting that i have made the executive decision to go back to studying at my desk in my room - which i only stopped doing in the past 4 months because itâs been COVERED with my textbooks and the task of stacking them neatly is overwhelmingly daunting and iâm not here for it

For future reference.
Thank you.

reblogging here because i can see this being relevant to anyone whoâs ever tried to get out of an abusive relationship
Reblogging because that last comment made me reread the whole thing in a new light and realize this could be vital information. So, putting it out there for everyone, and hoping no one ever really needs it.

In other news, it is now not only morally acceptable but the morally correct thing to do to pirate the fuck out of Adobeâs software line.

Emma, I FINALLY realized what kind of notebooks and paper are right for me, but I have a problem: I realized the discbound notebooks are not for me although Iâm happy I tried them. But I have so much Arc paper from Staples that I donât know what to write on them. I donât want to waste them. Any ideas? đĽ°
Hellooo! Can I ask what you found didnât work for you about them? Just knowing these things are good when I recommend them to people for a pros & cons type thing! But, here are a few ideas!
diary: log your day, write what you did, just a record of your day-to-day happenings
story (as you said): write down all the stories!!
bullet journal: note down all your daily to-do and focus on getting them done!
gratitude journal: write down things youâre grateful for each day and why
365 journal: write down a sentence a day. Could be a quote you like, an event that happened, a funny moment or something!
dream log: write down your dreams and maybe research their meaning!
review journal: if you see a movie or read a book write down your thoughts!
photo a day journal: make a daily scrapbook/photo album
expense tracker: note each thing you spend your money (you could track everything or just the things you treat yourself on)
goals journal: set yourself a goal and try to map out how you will achieve over a certain amount of time! Record how well youâre doing!
recipe book: write down ingredients and an easy step-by-step guide so you can always make something to eat
dashboard notebook: a little book that is kind of a hub of your life such as important emergency contacts, accounts names/passwords/emails, etc
tv show tracker: note down each season and cross of episodes as you go. You could also write down important parts of each episode so you can be reminded of what youâve seen.
inspiration/mood-book: print off photos, quotes, random bits and bobs that you find inspiration
gift log: write down the birthdays, anniversaries, holidays of your friends and note down any ideas you might think theyâd like as a gift. If they ever say âI love that!â then make a note of what it is and where to get it so you can get later!
wishlist journal: take note of things youâd like to buy over the year!
happiness journal: make a scrapbook of things that make you happy - could be photos, quotes, events, people, etc
monthly overview, goals and reflection: each month write down things that happened and how you felt
project/assessment book: plan out all your school or university assignments such as due dates, word count, to-dos, questions, citations, etc
âfuck thatâ book: when youâre angry or annoyed by something, write it down, rant about until your hearts content!
your own wreck this journal - you can Google to see what I mean but make your own version. Either you come up with ideas or maybe get a friend to write down cool things to do.
magazine clipping journal - if you see anything you like, cut it and stick it in. For me, Iâd maybe do street style or runway fashion!
swatch book: whenever you get some new pens, make a swatch board of them!
friendship journal: you and your friend(s) could make a book where you write down things you like about each other, places you go to together, photos you take, etc. Maybe pass it around each week and you can all review what youâre doing!
travel log: even if you arenât travelling far or overseas write down where you go and what it was like. Write down places youâd like to visit or things youâd like to see!
doodle book: just a book full of random drawings, sketches, etc
writing prompts: find some writing prompts that youâd like to continue and get writing!
receipts book: stick in all the things you spend your money on either to track or just out of curiosity!
flower press log: a cool way to save any pretty plants you find!
scrapbook: put in some of your favourite things in there! You could maybe do them for your friends for cute, personalised gifts!
handwriting practice: take time to practice your lettering, calligraphy or just normal handwriting!
habit tracker: do a âdonât break the chainâ kind of thing to either create or break your habits!
Hope that gives you some ideas! Alternatively, you could offer them to a friend or family member! xx
Also a lot of labs have their own website with pdfs of their papers freely available
Honestly the whole scientific journal shit is the stupidist method of discourse and I hate it all together, yes it ensures that quality papers are produced thanks to reviews but it also ensures that new advances in the field are spread suuuppeerr slowly because the work will be done for a year or more before some of the papers ever see the light of day, if we want research to actually advance we need to follow some of the other scientific disciplines and create a body of work with published and awaiting publications available so that people in the same field can have access to each otherâs work. My professor was just talking about how his lab has been working on a project for the past year and this week a paper studying the same thing came out, the data from it is over a year old, his work is now useless and he couldâve spent that time expanding on their findings instead of accidentally duplicating them

summer work :///
WHY HAVE I NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE?
During syllabus week, I entered every due date (and self-assigned reading) into an excel sheet. It has alleviated so much stress, I feel more organized, and Iâve been keeping up with all of my readings! It also makes everything seem more manageable - I have all the due dates lined up to finals week. I donât know how I ever survived without thisÂ
10 Mistakes When Studying
1. âI Donât Know where to Begin.â
Make a list of all the things you have to do. Break your workload down ito manageable chunks. Prioritize. Schedule your time realistically. Begin studying early, with an hour or two per day, and slowly build as the exam approaches.
2. âIâve Got So Much to StudyâŚAnd so Little Time"
Preview. Survey your syllabus, reading material, and notes. Identify the most important topics emphasized, and areas still not understood. Previewing saves time, by helping you organize and focus in on the main topics.
3. âThis Stuff is so Dry, I canât Even Stay Awake Reading Itâ
Get actively involved with the text as you read. Ask yourself, âWhat is important to remember about this section?â Take notes or underline key concepts. Discuss the material with others in your class. Stay on the offensive.
4. âI Read It. I Understand It. But I Just Canât Get it To Sink Inâ
Elaborate. We remember best the things that are most meaningful to us. As you are reading, try to elaborate upon new information with your own examples. Try to integrate what youâre studying with what you already know. You will be able to remember new material better if you can link it to something thatâs already meaningful to you.
Chunking: Example: to remember the colors in the visible spectrum, Rog G.Biv â> reduce the information the three âchunksâ.
Mnemonics: Associate new information with something familiar.
5. âI Guess I Understand Itâ
Test yourself. Make up questions about key sections in notes or reading. Examine the relationships between concepts and sections. Often, imply by changing section headings you can generate many effective questions.
6. âThereâs Too Much to Rememberâ
Organize. Information is recalled better if it is represented in an organized framework that will make retrieval more systematic.
Write chapter outlines of summaries; emphasize relationships between sections.
Group information into categories or hierarchies, where possible.
Information Mapping. Draw up a matrix to organize and interrelate material.
7. âI Knew It A Minute Agoâ
Review. After reading a section, try to recall the information contained in it. Try answering the questions you made up for that section. If you cannot recall enough, re-read portions you had trouble remembering. The more time you spend studying, the more you tend to recall. Even after the point where information can be perfectly recalled, further study makes the material less likely to be forgotten entirely. How you organize and integrate new information is still more important than how much time you spend studying.

Some Non-Stationery Investments That Will Help You with Uni
Since the new school year is starting soon in the northern hemisphere and many of you guys are starting college or uni for the first time, I thought I tell you some things that I think are good investments and will help you with uni-life.
Drink Bottles (BPA Free) - Most uni campuses having vending machines everywhere and if you donât carry around your own water bottle Iâll guarantee that youâll end up buying sugary drinks whenever you feel the slightest bit thirsty. This is bad for your health, wallet and the planet. I purchased two reusable BPA free water bottles that I interchange so that I can use one while the other is being washed. (Itâs important not to reuse disposable bottles over and over again since BPA can leech over time and has been linked to some bad health outcomes).
Earphones - Â So much learning nowadays is done online and it is very common for lecturers to post videos on the course websites for you to watch. I actually watch most of my lectures online and of course many students use music to block out distractions while studying. At the end of the day buying a whole pile of cheap earphones before you start the semester is not a bad idea. Theyâre actually in my top 5 most essential stationery items. Iâd recommend keeping multiple pairs on you because I once had a pair break on me when a quiz based on a video was due that day and I ended up having to buy a $20 pair from the uni post office.
University Union Membership - I know that you probably have a ridiculous number of expenses as you start uni but the University Union membership usually pays for itself. For me, it was $40 for a 2-year membership and I get so many discounts because of it. I also get a free all-you-can-eat breakfast on the first Tuesday of every month so you can definitely get your money back.
Thermos - Â Another thing that might get you discounts but will also save the planet is a thermos. Since youâre a student chances are that you have a coffee addiction and the coffee shop on campus offers $1 off if you bring your own cup, plus it stops trees being cut down and landfill piling up just for your morning cup of joe.
Good Backpack - Â Itâs a fair hike from one side of my university campus to the other and compared to most US colleges I have a tiny campus so youâre going to want a decent bag to carry your stuff in. I do see people get by just using handbags but theyâre usually the people with IPads and no other uni stuff. I recommend getting a bag with decent padding on the straps and shoulders.
Mini Whiteboard - Â Ok so this one isnât really necessary but having a mini whiteboard on your desk with a to-do list on it can help you keep focused. Plus itâs a verified scientific fact that all maths is easier on a whiteboard. I picked one up from Daiso for only $3 and it was a good investment.
Lip Balm -Â Â When youâre in a lecture thatâs not particularly interesting nothing is more distracting than chapped lips. Stock up on your favourite lip balm before the school year and keep them in every pocket, pencil case and corner of your backpack.Â
SPF - Going from high school to a big uni campus you tend to spend more time in the sun just walking between classes and to and from the bus stop and just because youâre not getting visibly sunburnt doesnât mean youâre not at increased risk of skin cancer. I recommend finding a form of SPF that you like and stocking up whether itâs proper sunscreen or makeup with SPF in it. I use a BB cream with SPF in it but if you go down the makeup-y road be aware that a SPF of 30+ is recommended for everyday activities (most makeups only have SPF 15) and you still need to reapply it as you do with ordinary sunscreen.
I hope that this helps you make the transition to uni a bit easier and as always feel free to ask me questions.
