The fishing has become excellent on the Missouri River from Holter Dam to the town of Cascade. Fish are feeding on top, eating dry flies, hoppers, ants, and beetles. Here are a few photos taken yesterday to show the action.

The high water is a thought in the past, Fall is coming fast. The river is low and clear, Tricos, hatching in the late mornings, on those days without wind, keep the trout feeding until around 3:00 pm. We have had some windy days of late, the Caddis are hatching in the faster water around mid-day, and the wind keeps the hoppers active all afternoon.

Well, there is good news as far as the fishing is concerned here on the Missouri River from Holter Dan to the town of Cascade.  Tricos! Today was the start of great hatches of the small mayfly called Trico, this morning there were huge clouds of the small black and white , generally , a size #20, and many times, even smaller bug, #22 , #24.

Missouri River is dropping….

The Missouri river is dropping after two months of very high water. At its peak this Spring it got up to 20,300 cfs, it is running today at a little under 11, 000 cfs. The fishing is improving as it drops. There are the start of Pale Morning Duns starting to hatch, along with caddis.
