Summer Solstice skies by Mark Airey Via Flickr: The amazing display of noctilucent clouds taken at 23:50 on the 21st of June in the south lakes, when this rare phenomenon was visible across a lot of the UK. For anyone who doesn't know what they are, this is taken from Wikipedia - "Noctilucent cloud - Noctilucent clouds, or night shining clouds, are tenuous cloud-like phenomena in the upper atmosphere of Earth. They consist of ice crystals and are only visible during astronomical twilight. Noctilucent roughly means "night shining" in Latin." The local reservoir trail by Mark Airey Via Flickr: The local reservoir trail So there was supposed to be visible aurora on Saturday night, do you see it.........nope, neither can I! It was good to get out and do something with the camera again though, even if it was just up the road to the reservoir, at least I can still work the buttons and it did make an OK trail so all was not lost. Creating art with art - Part 4 by Mark Airey Via Flickr: This is possibly the final installation in this series of images, but there might be one or two more posted at some point in the future. This one is my favourites of the set I think, although while editing these noticed that I have missed a trick here that for some reason I didn't think of at the time (I blame how long it is since I was last out waving lights about in the dark!).  This is a street art installation by the artist known as "LoKi" (if you have never heard of them take a look - www.facebook.com/Lokistreetartist) which has been placed at Claife Heights viewing station on the edge of lake Windermere. With the location being somewhere that I have wanted to return to for a long while now and not having waved lights about in the dark for months, this gave me the motivation I needed to go out and be creative. Another Macro Flower (a pink one) by Mark Airey Via Flickr: So this was taken in the garden in *cough* May this year and I never got around to sharing it. Same old macro setup using a reversing ring and a reverse mounted (backward) Olympus OM 50mm f1.8 lens, I still think it works rather well for macro like this :) I liked the way the way that the petals of the flower were almost ghosted in the image due to the really narrow plane of focus. As usual I have no idea what the flower is, my knowledge ends at it being a pink one...............  ISO200 1/80s f5.6 (but with lens flipped so who knows how accurate that aperture is)
