From my sister: a thank you letter
I'm posting here a transcription of the letter I found in my sister's computer case, without editing or further comment.
My tumblr friends and family:
I've written this letter because I wanted to get my thoughts down on paper in case I couldn't later, and since I won't be able to thank you in person for all that you've done for me. If you're reading it, either I'm relatively sure the end is at hand, and I've still got the faculties to post it, or someone from my family found it with my computer and posted it themselves, which assumes a more permanent state for me. Either way, things are good.
And things are good. I know I've written before that cancer sucks, and complained about my haircut, the hospital, my doctors, whatever... but for real: things are good. Life is good, and death will be good too, I'm willing to bet. I'm very happy with my lot in life, in the grand scheme of things, so assuming the worst, please don't be too sad for too long, because really, I'm cool with it. With everything, honestly.
Anyways, this isn't really about me. This is about you, my tumblr homies, because you are fucking awesome. You've made me laugh, you've made me cry, and I've loved every minute I've spent here. I created my own OC on a whim, came to play with him, and have never looked back since. Seriously, you guys are the best. Every single day I'm thankful for everything that led me here.
Because I'm a self-important prick, and because it's my right to a cliche as a terminal cancer patient, I'm going to dispense a few nuggets of my hard earned (and ultimately, probably very unhelpful) wisdom. First: find something you like to do and do it. Who cares if you suck? If you like dancing, go dance. It doesn't matter if you literally move like a middle school, white-as-shit Bill Cosby- you go own those zippity-boo-bopping white boy moves. Make the clubs love you, cause they will (who doesn't love Bill Cosby?).
Second: find people that you like to be around, and spend time with them. Hang out and watch a movie. If you don't like movies, listen to music. If music isn't your thing, just talk. Actually, talking is a pretty good idea in general, with people you respect. Tell them how awesome they are, and how much they mean to you. Don't be shy about things like that, because even though you may think it's awkward for a moment, it means so much. Seriously. If I could change one thing in my life, if would be this one. Tell people you love them before you have to.
Third, and most important: like I said above, you are awesome. Fucking own it. Don't be a dick about it, but own it. If other people tell you you're awesome too, see? They understand. If they don't, they just haven't had a chance to realize the full extent of your awesomeness. So revel in it, and while you can and should always try to be better than you are, take a moment sometimes and congratulate yourself. You are awesome.
But enough with the wisdom now.
I've already gone on way too long, but the real point of this note (now it's a letter, I really have written too much, damn) is to thank you. I don't think you'll ever realize how much of an impression you've left on me as individuals and as a community. I'm dying right now, and maybe as you're reading this I'm already gone, but I know without a doubt that no matter how long I might have had under different circumstances, you would still have been a huge part of the rest of my life. So thank you. Really, sincerely, thank you so much. I don't know how to say it any differently. Thank you.
Adios, my friends. I anticipate this will end up being the last thing I will ever post (or someone will post for me), and I hope it's a good effort. I've spent a bit of time on it so far (I'm writing it out on pen and paper!), so we'll see.
I love you all. Thank you for embracing Set and myself- hopefully, I'll be watching from the other side and we'll talk again someday.
Best, and with lots and lots of love,
