She pinned the photo, she most lilely asked the cover artist to paint Celery’s gown in that way, but somehow, none of them felt like writing a reference there.

Apart from the obvious theft (because it is theft when you lift something without asking for permission and acknowledge in references), this gown - obviously designed after cheongsam with obvious Chinese details (i mean just look at the dragon) - becomes associated (and iconic) to a white woman coming from a world at least supposedly inspired by Late Middle-Age Europe. Not to mention a character with clear racist and colonialist tendencies.

I’m not saying it’s bad to be inspired by something, but please give credit where credit is due and don’t give white protagonists clothes that don’t belong to their culture without a valid reason, at least acknowledge that it comes from another culture (this is an issue in AC/OMAF as well, Mess truly makes a habit of this doesn’t she?)

I have done a few posts defending her on my other blogs, (mostly from the whole book debacle) and I have seen her show a million times. She is such a sweet lady and doesn’t deserve all this hate because people want to keep all their junk. Sadly though, race and ethnicity are prime targets for people to hate on when they don’t like someone, even if it has nothing to do with what they don’t like about them. People truly are the worst.

Y'all. How can we even call this internalized misogyny at this point? This is misogyny right up in our faces: the woman who wanted to get away from her husband and ran away to another world where she pretty much chilled until her husband and his brothers followed her and then went evil for Reasons (?) is the Ultimate Big Bad and the dude who followed her to drag her back to his brother is constantly underlined as a dude who now is honorable and is, again, CONSTANTLY underlined as male. Not to mention the way Maeve’s body is constantly ogled and described. Like. How is there a QUESTION by this point?

I’m not saying I like Maeve. Maeve is not a well executed character. She’s just an even more poorly executed villain.

This is lying to readers. You can misdirect. You can imply. Your characters can lie. But you yourself, as an author, as the narrative, should not lie to your readers. It’s bad writing and it sets my teeth on edge, especially when it’s marketed as a twist.

For me it started in Q/OS and really solidified after T/OD because that’s when I realized just how bad the series had gotten.

It only got worse from then on and when I got E0S I read it and cringed at every single EM dash and fragment sentence.

Oh, and don’t think we didn’t catch that barb about Kat’s publishing troubles. Publishing is a fucking nightmare, and most of the time your manuscript just gets tossed into a slush pile and then it’s as good as dead. So fuck off.

Second, big enough for fifteen Fae males is a really weird measurement. Are all Fae males the same size? Is three Fae males by five Fae males a valid descriptor in this world? Are planks measured by fraction of Fae males? Do you use their apparent uniform height or their apparent uniform width or what?
