Itâs no surprise to me that once they left the island, the rest of the world fell for the Durrells, too. Long may that continue.
I like to believe the Durrellsâ story will be enjoyed for many years to come, so that their extraordinary Corfu adventure lives on and on.

LOUISA DURRELL AND SPIROS HALIKIOPOULOS // THE DURRELLS
First off, I will never be over this. We had one episode of them actually being âtogetherâ and that will forever be the saddest thing in my life. They were meant for each other. The fact that they got on so well from the start and that Spiros became Louisaâs confidant and protector is the sweetest thing. There are just so many reasons that they are right together. He held her when she needed him to, basically helped her raise her children from the minute they got to Corfu and I just canâtâŚÂ
They were the cutest. Constant angsty, pining cuteness and fluff and all I wanted was a happy ending for them both. I know in real life the Durrells moved back to England and Spiros died from pneumonia in 1940 (donât. Iâm going to pretend it was heartbreak), but I really wanted them to have their cabin with the bed not too big so that they were always touching.Â
Every scene that contained these two just sizzled with chemistry and I honestly wish they had gotten together sooner so we could see just how amazing they would be as a couple. I understand why they never cause like tension and writing and viewing figures, but like I needed it.
The series 3 finale made me sob tears of joy and then tears of anguish and despair. I now hate fireworks and I canât believe how close they got to having everything they both wanted. The moment he utters her name whilst clasping her hands as she breaks down destroys me.
As for the season 4 finale⌠I still havenât fully accepted itâs over, to be honest. The cute little giggly private moments were beautiful and I fully believe that they would act like lovesick teenagers throughout the entirety of their relationship (which in my mind lasts until they are both eighty and they die in each otherâs arms). That beach scene wrecked my entire soul and shattered my heart into a million pieces. The final confession of love from both of them and Louisaâs whispered ânoâ when he says he canât go with them - deceased. The way he holds her as she falls to the ground - deceased. The way her voice breaks when she asks what sheâll do without him and the way she basically straight up murders me when she cries âyouâll be spreading your magic and I wonât be hereâ is too much for me to take. So much emotion in a 3 minute sequence. I could go on and on about how much I love these two but I feel like eventually I would end up crying so much I couldnât see and it would just be a mash of keys.
In short, I love them with my whole heart and their tragic love story is the saddest and most beautiful thing I have ever witnessed on television in the last ten years. Keeley and Alexis play their characters so convincingly and I genuinely donât think Iâve ever been so invested in a love story, especially not one so heartbreaking and soul destroying in the best of ways. Thanks for coming to my TED talk.Â
I feel like I donât need to write anything now, itâs all expressed in this post already â¤ď¸đ
Keeley Hawes Appreciate Week 15 Aug: Keeley + favourite series/film: The Durrells
I didnât think I would have much more to say about this one, but here goes.
This show completely surprised me! I remember the night series two was premiering here (I live in the US), my mom was watching it, and I stopped to watch with her. It was the opening scene of Louisa in bed when she turns over and the goat is there with her. I was curious so my mom started explaining what it was about. Then the opening credits started rolling and I thought they were interesting given what I was assuming this show would be like (boy, was I wrong!), but then when I saw the title card, I realized I had recently added it to my Amazon Prime queue. So I stopped watching it because I knew it was the second series and left the room. I immediately binged it later that night and absolutely fell in love. The children were weird and annoying, (I literally only loved Gerry at first; that changed over the years), the mother wasâŚdifferent (unlike any British mother I had seen on tv thus far), the animals were wild, and the writingâŚoh god, the writingâŚwell, it was amazing! I laughed so hard and even now, no matter how many times Iâve seen each episode, I still laugh like a lunatic.Â
Thank you, Simon Nye, for such a truly beautiful show. I will never stop loving this wacky little family!
