‘Not married’ she had said. Heath’s frown only deepened at her words, not particularly a fan of being told to shut up, and even less so of being lied to. Usually he would do his best to be polite, to hold back any sarcastic comments and be his usual gentle self. But his head was still pounding him, a mix of alcohol and regret, and it was doing nothing for his kindness. With a quick glare that he instantly felt guilty at throwing at the woman who was clearly still trying to sleep. With a sigh at the hell that was going on in his mind, he tried to come to grips with what was going on, needing to understand. “Well, the gold ring on your ring finger doesn’t agree with you there,” he spoke softly, trying to appear calmer than he really was.

Groaning, she rolled over, staring at the ceiling for a second as he continued to talk. Was it really that big of a favor to ask for ten more minutes of sleep? Apparently. Holding the blankets around herself, she sat up, pushing her hair out of her face and trying to rub some of the sleep from her eyes. She wished he had just gone before she woke up, hating that she was so vulnerable in his presence. Almost no one ever saw her like this, first thing in the morning, and it made her a touch uncomfortable. What kind of one night stand, in Vegas no less, wanted to stick around, anyway?

"I haven't got a..." She trailed off as she felt something cool and hard against her cheek - on her finger. She glanced at her hand, a frown forming as she furrowed her brow, taking in the plain golden ring. "I don't - that's not my ring. I would never get married with a ring like this." But it had to be hers, didn't it? If she hadn't put it there, who had? And why? Glancing back over at him, she was silent for a moment, just taking him in. He was more handsome than she remembered, but that didn't matter now. "Doesn't look like you have much room to talk...." She trailed off as her brain supplied absolutely nothing as to what the man's name was.

“Give me something strong and on the rocks.” She sighed, looping her foot through the strap of her purse as she set it down, before sitting. “And don’t ask questions.”

Hayden nodded as he grabbed a bottle, tossed it to his other hand and poured as he reached for two other bottles. A little ice and a sugar rim had the drink sliding down the bar to her. “Strong but with a sweet side. Let me know if I got that wrong.” He winked. 

“Can I commission you to make me a painting of like, me? Or do I have to be in a book? Because, I work with them - and I think that’s close enough.”

“You don’t have to commission anything,” Charlotte rolled her eyes at her friend. “You know I’d much rather paint a portrait of you than sketch potion ingredients.”

Margarette knocked twice on her office door before letting herself in with a small smile - Cass was one of the only people who’s company she thoroughly enjoyed. Careful to use her right hand, she pulled a family size bottle of their favorite wine out of her bag, showing it off a little before setting it on her desk and easing herself into the chair across with a sigh. “Forgive me, Professor, for I have sinned.”

“I am not your priest, Margarette,” Cass laughed, summoning a pair of glasses as she took in the sight of her friend with a wary smile. “Am I going to need the wine in order to hear your sins, or is this simply an excuse to drink?”

Margarette curled up with her bowl of popcorn on the other end of the couch from Heath - her husband. She found herself just staring at him for a moment, something she did more than she probably should, but it was all just so weird. They lived together now. Mostly. Tonight, they happened to be in her condo, but it was still strange. She frowned, not sure what to do. “Did you - did you want to, watch the ball or something? I think I’ve got some champagne….”

He smiled softly at her words, unable to deny his amusement at her trying to make him feel comfortable. It was all so odd still, trying to get to know one another yet dealing with the golden rings that bound them at the same time. He couldn’t say he was comfortable, not really, heck, he was running out of smart casual clothing to wear to try and appear cooler than he really was, but he was trying, they both were. “Sure,” he nodded with an encouraging smile. “I mean, whatever you like. What do you normally do for New Years?”
