the daniel howell’s of the world: exploit their audience with merch sales every few months

the garrett watts’ of the world: post on social media occasionally going on living their own life, being excited about their friend’s make up launch, just being a happy human showing off what they’re gonna be for halloween. 

but this merch drop? that ain’t it.

to be frank, i am disappointed in dan. i thought he, of all people, would know better. but at this point, i think he’s just dropping merch because he knows that his fans would buy merch. things put simply, he continues to sell merch because he’s milking the fans that are truly infatuated with him and believes that everything that he does is right and good. 

dan howell, you can’t sell merch without having fucking videos to accompany it. if dan wants to design merch to sell, collaborate with a professional clothing company or rebrand to a fashion designer or something. i understand if dan has mental health issues and he can’t make content. as someone who has struggled with mental health before, i can kind of understand what it feels like to fall down a deep dark hole of anti-motivation and have no one be able to tell by looking at you, but he’s clearly alive. he is making content, but this content is purely for money. obviously you can make money off youtube, but unlike videos, these articles of clothing have to be bought for it to be one hundred percent appreciated. 

i don’t know what i would rather - for dan to be actually truly fucking naive enough to think that this merch would be as popular as his last lines (but still have innocent intentions) or for him to know what we want and how we would react but not give a shit. these two scenarios are quite black and white - there are always stories which turn them into shades of grey - but honestly, i can’t quite think it is the first option. 

dan isn’t dumb. he know we’ll fucking buy it and he’ll still probably make some sort of money off it. he knows. and i don’t know. i really am just really, really disappointed in dan. it feels weird - i always protect them and try to stay calm but this was the last straw. 

dan howell, suffice to say, you fucked up. tomorrow, when the merch is released, i’ll probably fangirl over the pictures, admire the designs and make edits for it. maybe. i am a phannie at heart, after all. but even if i try to keep this blog positive and happy and pro-dan, this time, i don’t know. i don’t fucking know.
