after leo’s encounter with marco at the bar, he hadn’t seen much of him around. perhaps it was because he’d been avoiding him as much as he could, even going as far as to not showing up at group hangouts. waking up the next day with a hangover and a sore cheek was shit, but the weight of his own words falling down on him like the berlin fucking wall that night sucked the most. i didn’t fucking matter to you. i never mattered, have i? his own voice echoed in his head like a broken record, taunting him. for two weeks, the bruise on his face was a painful (physically and emotionally) reminder of their fight — he was happy to see it fading. leo did his best to distract himself. he started going on morning jogs, started posting more videos on his channel. after a whole month of absolutely no interaction whatsoever, leo felt better, and he kept that memory locked up and stowed away. 

a sea of green locals and tourists were lining up at dirty penguin, and leo couldn’t help but look smug as he skipped past them with a cone of chocolate ice cream in hand. the key was to arrive ten minutes before the cafe opened. his happiness was short-lived, however, because he accidentally bumped into someone, sending his ice cream plummeting down the ground. “ah, fuck, i’m so sorry,” he groaned, looking up at the stranger he bumped into, the expression on his face going blank as he came face to face with marco. great. just… fucking great. leave it to him to give an apology to the person who deserved it the least.

spring cleaning, his aunt bianca had told him, was not just cleansing their home of shit they no longer needed. rather, it was an emotional cleanse as well -- getting rid of the shit that made him feel like shit. initially, the concept of spring cleaning didn’t appeal to marco as something that was therapeutic or healing in any sort of way. he was cleaning, for fuck’s sake. all he had to do was put things in a garbage bag, and sweep dust under the rug...but it wasn’t until he came face to face with his remnants of his past that he truly began to understand what she meant. his fingers grazed over a dusty stack of polaroids, shifting one over the other. they were from that one summer, the one he spent in california, the summer that was the beginning of the end. a smile played at his lips as he found one with him and leo, grins eating up both of their faces as their arms were draped over each other’s shoulders. did they know it was one of their last moments together as best friends?

as pieces of his past started settling in a black garbage bag, marco and bianca decided to reward themselves with some mint chocolate ice cream. the older female was telling him about the three bags she’d filled up herself, rolling her eyes as she mentioned that her husband barely even filled up a bag. “maybe he’s happy,” he shrugged, “not a lot of emotional shit to throw away.” it earned him a raised eyebrow. “well you only filled up one bag. does that mean you’re happy?” before marco could even defend himself, he felt a body collide with his side. a look of annoyance graced his features, but he froze for a moment when he realized who it was. his eyes quickly surveyed leo, darting to where he hit the other from their last encounter. he was relieved that leo’s bruises were fading, as were his, but the wounds in his heart were still quite fresh. 

jaw clenching and unclenching, he forced a smile. “would have been nice if you watched where you were going, but i accept your apology.” his aunt squeezed his arm, and marco straightened his back. eyes shifting between the front of the line and its end. while there was a lot of people behind them, they were only five people away from being served. even though marco could easily let leo lament over his fallen ice cream cone, a picture that was newly buried somewhere in his wallet made him say, “i can get you a new cone if you want to.”

remember that song i hate u i love u and when it had something like ‘friends can break your heart, too’, marco fucking felt that because his heart broke when he realized his friendship with leo was over! but romantically, he’s been the heartbreaker and not the heartbroken.

marco has mixed feelings about valentine’s day. it’s either he thinks it’s silly ( because why rely on having one day to make your boo feel special you know ?? ), but he likes valentine’s day this year because he’s got his girl...for now.

marco is secretly a hopeless romantic ( he doesn’t even know it himself ), so he thinks he’s someone who’s incredibly guarded when it comes to his feelings. he doesn’t want to be the person who fell in love first, ya feel? like, he won’t say he’s in love until the other person says it, because otherwise it’ll be humiliating for him. but when he loves someone, like, really loves someone, he’ll give it his all.

if he’s single and flirting with someone with the intention of hooking up, he’s a 8.5/10 at flirting.  he’s not afraid to say whatever would convince them.  but in general, he’s someone who likes to give compliments, and maybe throws in an innuendo here or there. he also has this thing he does with his tongue combined with this look on his face and he thinks it’s sexy but ??? it’s also the same thing he does when he’s eating gelato so :shrug:

i keep saying this a lot, and i’ll say it again -- marco will say anything to get his way. for the longest time, he threw ‘i love you’ around cleo whenever he wanted her to stop being mad at him or whenever he wanted to sleep with her, but he didn’t mean it back then. you’ll know he really loves someone when the thought of him saying he loves them scares the shit out of him.

marco doesn’t like to make a spectacle out of his relationships nor the dates he takes whoever he’s dating to. he’s a simple guy (when he’s not being so complicated), so he leans towards very intimate gatherings, like dinner dates, movie nights, or camping out in the backyard. even though he appreciates the simple things, he likes to throw in some effort most of the time. he’ll cook for three hours, or put up handmade decorations, or give really special gifts. my guy is lowkey ,, a Romantic

he does. he likes to say things he doesn’t mean just so he would get his way. but sometimes, his rough edges come out so his words sometimes seem aggressive or hostile.

when it’s the first time he’s sleeping with someone he’s dating, he’ll be really slow and careful. but usually, he likes to get rough. lots of biting, pulling. after sex, he’s a very selective cuddler. like, he needs to connect with a person before he cuddles them.

marco likes to think he’s a good kisser. he’s ... Aggressive all the time, regardless of whatever he’s doing so his style of kissing may only appeal to people who are just as aggressive.

just like how he’s a selective cuddler, he’s also a very selective hugger. people who he only considers as good friends will get hugs from him, and that’s only provided if they’re sad and need a hug. otherwise, he wants to keep people at least 3 feet away. but when he hugs people, he likes to wrap his arms around them completely, like a protective blanket, and it’s just so comforting because he’s really tall and you could probably hear his heartbeat against his chest.

“you bet your ass it is, sweetheart. can’t get rid of me that easy,” she called back, straightening herself up to a standing position instead of leaning over the wall as marco skated her way, stack of partially collected cones left forgotten on the ice. for a moment, she wished that her skates were on her feet instead of resting at her shoulder blade. more specifically, when marco stepped towards her and just absolutely towered over her and she finally realized what ants ( and other various insects ) must have felt like every day of their tiny lives. “ah, i was afraid you might get that impression. it’s actually what’s brought me here now, actually — offering my sincerest apologies,” she replied, not missing a beat and falling into step with his heartbroken facade. there was something fun about someone who kept you on your toes, she had to admit. “it was kind of last minute’s notice thing, otherwise i would have allowed you to be part of the dramatic airport goodbye number.” 

“you could, but don’t do that. what if i’m not there to patch you up?” june said, trying not to look too amused at marco’s reaction. “i’ve actually had younger patients who didn’t flinch at all,” she said, grinning up at him. “there was an actual seven year old who just… kept on a stoic face the entire time. i gave him a lollipop after.” june pulled out a large adhesive pad, peeling the seal off and placing the bandaid over marco’s wound. she hands him an extra pad, “change that in four to five hours, alright?”

“i am, i’m fucking pissed at you for breaking the ‘bro code’, because i thought you were fucking better than that,” leo spat, “i don’t give a shit about her anymore—yeah, it hurt that she chose you, but it hurt that you took the fucking bait, as if… as if my feelings didn’t matter to you.” leo’s shoulders slacked, the fury in his features disappearing, only to be replaced by a look of defeat as he realised the weight of his own words. “my feelings didn’t matter to you,” he said, quieter this time, because everything made much more sense now—what made it so difficult for leo to move on? was it the embarrassment? the shame? he initially assumed it was. until now. “i didn’t fucking matter to you. i never mattered, have i?” suddenly, marco’s fist was flying straight to his cheek, and the anger was back, flooding his senses. being too slow to defend himself, leo staggered backwards when the punch hit him; making him raise his hand to caress his hurting jaw. “you fucking asshole,” he snarled. leo wasn’t generally a violent person, but he saw red and before he knew it, he was knocking his fist straight into marco’s face.

her eyes moved between his as her fight or flight instinct came into play. it wasn’t until she saw his small smile that a very small sense of comfort fell over her. clearing her throat, she stood up a bit taller. “thank you, i, um, i didn’t see you in here…” she lied. of course she had seen him, her eyes fell on him the entire second half of the song and she knew he had noticed. rolling her eyes at herself, she was getting ready to just move past him until he continued to talk. marco never really ceased to amaze her. she felt as if she knew him pretty well - she’d had the chance to see him for who he was and didn’t believe himself to be in their time together. so it shouldn’t have shocked her as much when he asked if she was okay. although, with the way everything ended between them, she was honestly surprised he even cared. a big part of her just wanted to scream at him, but aylie had fallen way too hard and the heartbreak she’d felt from him was still lingering. 

“i’ve been really busy with lessons and everything so -” she nervously pulled her bottom lip between her teeth as she rocked back on her heels. why did she have the urge to just throw herself into his arms and let him hug her one last time? maybe that’s all she needed, some kind of familiarity that could get her through all the shitty things going on in her head recently. he’d made her feel okay last year and maybe that’s why this year felt so much worse. “it isn’t really your obligation to be there for me anymore, marco. don’t worry. you’re off the hook. you made sure of that.” aylie snapped. so, maybe she was choosing fight. she took a step before stopping, taking in a deep breath and turning back around to face him. “fancy a pizza?”

marco watched her closely. he had always been very observant, and while this quality of his did him well in other situations, this particular moment was not one of them. there was a gnawing feeling inside of him by seeing her get so nervous, because of him. who wouldn’t? maybe it wasn’t time for them to have this conversation, maybe he hadn’t given her enough time to heal just yet. but there was a part of him who thought that if he wasn’t going to do this now, then when will he ever? nodding, he tried to give her a comforting smile. “yeah, no, i get it. i started teaching hockey to 10-year-olds at the ice rink, and it’s just grueling sometimes, but i didn’t think dealing with children would be this fun.” small talk was good, right? when she suddenly snapped him, he took a step back, fearing that one wrong move could just strain their relationship even more. but she was right. how could he expect aylie to let him in again when he broke her heart the last time that she did? 

marco opened his mouth to speak, but no words could come out. it didn’t help that his legs were frozen in place either. she had every right to get mad at him, she could even punch him square in the face if she wanted. leo already did. he truly wanted to think that he was a good person who only did morally grey things, but more and more, he was coming to terms with the idea that maybe he was just a horrible person. when she spoke up once again, his brow furrowed in confusion. “pizza?” a small smile slowly formed at his lips. “i could do pizza.” he nodded. “mama dee’s is still open, and it’s a few blocks from here.” aylie was the most compassionate person he knew, and while he thought he still had to work for her forgiveness, he’ll take the pizza. as they walked out into the cold, almost-spring-but-not-quite air, the bruises on his face stung. “do you like my new look?” he asked her casually. “you can give me one too after pizza.”

she took the back of her hand to wipe her face for the second time. she found a small piece of the pasta that broke off and threw it over at marco, in hopes it would hit his face, but her aim was way off and landed on the floor next to him. she fell back onto her bed before propping herself up on her elbows so she can see marco better. ‘ and olive garden is fucking fantastic. what’s your point here ? ’, callie said, more because she knows how irritating it was for marco to hear. a small smile appeared on her lips and she scrunched her nose up. ‘ you know how much food i eat. i could tell the different between arrowhead and polar springs water. i think i could tell the different between real pasta and pasta that comes in a box. ’
