Most of us think of David as the shepherd boy who slew Goliath. We also remember the dark side of his life, his failures, the grievous sins he committed. He made many blunders just like we do and suffered losses that words cannot describe and was under great emotional strain. “But David encouraged himself in the Lord his God.”(1 Samuel 30:6) This is one of the most wonderful statements ever made. There are times in our lives when we find ourselves in dark places, sometimes due to our own foolishness and failures, like David, and at other times, because of situations we have no control over, situations that look hopeless. What do we do? Be discouraged? Give up? If we are children of God, we will encourage ourselves in the Lord. Sometimes the Lord puts us in such spots so we will turn to Him. Jesus wants to make Himself real to us. Let's turn to Him and be encouraged. He will strengthen us and help us.
