Randvi appreciation post
Nodding, Randvi started to get up, then grimaced. An odd sensation was beginning to make itself feel known: a tingling, so bizarre in natureâand then the smell. Oh, what a foul smell.
âEivor, something is wrongâŠâ she trailed off tentatively. âDo you smell that? Itâs horrid,â she commented, making a face. Grabbing Eivorâs hand, it was then that her overall demeanor changed, her eyes flickering as if she had just learned something new. With the hand she had taken, Randvi suddenly yanked Eivor towards and over her to slam her onto the ground on her back. She came just as rapidly, unsheathing a dagger from her boot and advancing on the drengr.
Yes, something was very, very wrong.
Teal eyes looked at Randvi, tilting her head slightly. âRandvi?â Eivor didnât smell anything, her nose sensitive to certain smells, yet she couldnât smell anything off. But the fact that Randvi could be off-putting left Eivor concerned. Before she could reach through, suddenly Eivor was slammed toward the ground, and she grunted, the air knocked out of her chest.
The dagger came straight toward her, and Eivor reacted quickly. Her hand reached up to grab Randviâs wrist, and her foot kicked out toward her stomach. âRandvi, STOP!â Eivor shouted as she rolled to the side, getting to her feet and looking at the redhead, confused. âWhat are you doing!?!â The drengr questioned. Randvi would never attack her; she would never strike against her, so what was truly happening?
Cursed. Poisoned. Something, something was happening to cause Randvi to strike out suddenly. âRandvi, listen to me,â Eivor said, refusing to pull a weapon but keeping her eyes on the Viking and her dagger.
The words that Eivor spat forth from her lips seemed to glide past Randvi as if they had never been spoken at all. The vikingr tumbled to the ground but tucked her blade in so that it didnât strike her own side or any other flying appendage.
Violently, she turned on her heel, looking akin to a prowling lioness or a predator staring down her wounded prey. She advanced forward menacingly, opting for her own bearded axeâa deadlier weapon. Though, her pace was different. Something was differentâeven one of her eyes seemedâŠdarker. Discoloured. Off.
âIâm killing you,â the advisor smirked. With that, she lunged at Eivor again, raising her axe to swing.

âWhat?â The shorter woman sputtered. She stumbled backwards, not expecting the sudden weight shoving against her, but she quickly followed up behind the other vikingr.Â
âHej!â One hand reached out and grabbed Eivorâs arm to halt her in her path and turn her back towards her. Fuming, Randvi gritted, âMaybe I wouldnât be swooning over other women if my own wife were not sitting in the corner brooding like a dead fish!â At that, Eivor was released, though the redhead crossed her arms and stood firmly in her path.Â
âAnd what happened to maintaining allies, anyways? Surely you donât intend to fight everyone like you have been fighting me!â
Eivor growled as Randvi grabbed her. But she would not strike her, anyone else she might have, but not Randvi. Eivorâs hands curled into fist, showing her displeasure as Eivor looked down at her. âYou donât even want to be my wife, so why are you so bothered by me brooding in a corner?â Eivor demanded as she felt her arm released but standing in her way.
âI donât make allies, if you havenât noticed. Iâm a berserker. Iâm the one they send in to kill everyone. I donât make friends, Iâm not wife material, and no one has ever cared about me!â Eivor shouted in her direction but realized she spoke too much. Eivor growled as she threw her hands up and turned around. Why did she open her big mouth!?
Her hand brushed over her forehead and pressed her teeth firmly together. âLook, you can make the allies if you wish. Thatâs what my brother is good at, or my father. But itâs not me,â
Randvi stood tall in the shadow of Eivorâs figure in front of her. The fist curl did not go unnoticed: she felt her own tense at her sides, ready to meet the hard knuckles of the berserker if they were to come in her direction.
âI donât care if you think youâre only good at killing people,â Randvi interrupted fiercely. âA marriage is a partnership. I donât care if you donât like me, or if I donât like youâthat isnât the point. We need to make decisions together for the benefit of both of our clans.â
She stood there silently, chewing on her next words.
âSo, are you still going to run away, Wolf-Kissed?â

Eivor took the axe in hand, flipping it in the air as she looked at the broken destruction dummy of hay and linen on the ground now. She heard the steps and turned around, looking right into the eyes of her wife. She narrowed her eyes, giving a glare toward the woman, who didnât seem to want to leave her alone. âMy problem?â Eivor questioned, as she turned around and threw her axe at the pole, watching it dig into the wood. Splitters flew off and landed on the ground as Eivor twisted back around.
âI have no desire to watch you flirt and swoon over other women. If thatâs what you want to do, go for it,â Eivor stated coldly as she turned back around. Her boots crunched in the snow as she grabbed her axe and pulled it out of the pole and slide it back into the holder on her hip. âDonât expect me to sit there and watch.â
Eivor marched up toward Randvi, staring down at her as their height difference put her taller than the shorter viking. âNow if you excuse me, wife, Iâm going to take a trip. Iâll be back in a few days. Enjoy yourself,â Eivor grumbled as she pushed past Randvi, heading to the stables. She needed to get out and get some fresh air away from the town.
âWhat?â The shorter woman sputtered. She stumbled backwards, not expecting the sudden weight shoving against her, but she quickly followed up behind the other vikingr.Â

âYes, I have a town to run,â Randvi agreed, though she pointedly drew her horse closer and motion to it. Get on, or Iâll make you, her eyes said. âBut you are currently staying with us, and that means you are part of this town, no? So you are my responsibility.â
Kassandra staggered and Randvi immediately stepped in front of her so that the tall Amazonian would not trample her in some way. Taking her by the uninjured arm she pulled her closer to the horse and patted the space behind the saddle.
âCome, Kassandra. You cannot do it alone.â

Nodding, Randvi started to get up, then grimaced. An odd sensation was beginning to make itself feel known: a tingling, so bizarre in natureâand then the smell. Oh, what a foul smell.
âEivor, something is wrong...â she trailed off tentatively. âDo you smell that? Itâs horrid,â she commented, making a face. Grabbing Eivorâs hand, it was then that her overall demeanor changed, her eyes flickering as if she had just learned something new. With the hand she had taken, Randvi suddenly yanked Eivor towards and over her to slam her onto the ground on her back. She came just as rapidly, unsheathing a dagger from her boot and advancing on the drengr.
Yes, something was very, very wrong.
Randvi allowed the berserker to begin undressing her, each layer taken offf seemingly revealing another until, finally, her top half was left in nothing but the linen wrap that they all wore. Dark ink marked nearly the entire top half, intricate viking designs all over her back and chest and black bands lining her muscular arms. They flexed, then returned, reaching for Eivorâs own furs and disrobing her almost reverently. Randviâs eyes darkened, drinking in the sight of the blonde.
âI do appreciate the view the gods have set before me,â she remarked coyly. Her hands traced along the sinew of her muscle tantalizingly, teasing, until her fingertips reached a tendril of hair and looped it around. Leaning forward, she kissed along Eivorâs jaw and to her ear to nip at it.
âYou should have.â
»    @mapwielderâââ â â  asked  :: This was never how it was supposed to happen. Every Viking imagines it being a blaze of glory, a final fight to cement their place in valhallaââitâ being death.
This was never how it was supposed to happen.
A sickly, creeping cold is slowly sliding up Randviâs bones and seeping into her core. She feels her warmth drain into the soil underneath her, the same ground that her back had hit minutes ago when the arrow had pierced through her shield and into her chest.
Rust tangs her tongue and crusts against her lips. The trees above are blurry. It was daytime, but Randvi could swear she saw the stars as clearly as a hot summers night. Her head is spinning and her thoughts are blurry, and when she sees a head of blonde looking down at her, the pointed features of Eivorâwell, she thinks that sheâs dreaming.
âMy love,â she breathes deliriously. âJoin me. Layââ her sentence cut off with a hacking, rattling cough, ââwith me, next to me. The stars⊠they are bright tonight.â
Eivor stumbled through the mud, grappling through the trees to find Randvi. Seeing her laying on the ground unmoving nearly stopped Eivorâs heart as she slid down beside her and pulled back the shield and watched the arrow rip out as well. âNo no no,â Eivorâs raspy voice filled with terror as she looked at all the blood pooling on her chest and Eivor immediately took a handful of fur and shoved it against the wound. âRandvi, donât you dare die. You, you are a viking, you will not die like this!â
Her voice raised as she glanced up at the sky and it was bright with the sun, trees hiding the shade, and then back down toward Randvi. âYes, yes, they are. You focus on those stars.â Eivor needed to get her back to the camp and to stop the bleeding. âPlease, Freyja, do not let your Valkyries take her from me yet. Itâs not her time,â Eivor whispered the pray out loud, as she wrapped her arms underneath Randviâs back and legs. Hoisting her up she quickly, Eivor ignored any weariness or exhaustion. Trudging through the mud as she glanced down to Randvi.
She would not be going to Valhalla tonight! Eivor would not allow it!
Everything was in a blissful darkness: no blood, no suffering, absolutely nothing. It was odd as Randvi floated there weightlessly. She found herself trying to find the ground, but there was nothing to touch or grasp in her hands. The empty black of the world began to shake and she felt herself falling, a large, booming voice shaking her bones: Randvi. Freyja, do not take her from me tonight.
A shuddering breath burst forth from her lungs at the exact moment the searing hot blade touched her flesh. A wretched scream tore through her vocal cords. The veins in her hands bulged and strained as she grabbed onto Eivorâs furs, ripped out tufts of the material and threw them aside. She fell back once again, sweat pouring down her head and into her red hair, eyes closed once more into a deep, deep unconsciousness.
âOne-eyed all-father,â Randvi rasped, though she did not move. âWhat did I do to deserve such pain?â
mapwielderâ:
Already biting her tongue from saying something more than a tongue-lashing, the advisor silently wrapped the strips of frantic over the fresh woundâeven if she pulled on it tighter than she had to. She could just place the blame on lowering the blood flow.
âBe careful,â she hissed. âWhat, did Eivor put you on babysitting duty? Is that it? Because I do not need to be watched!â Randvi exclaimed and threw her hands up. She was in charge of the town but that did not mean she didnât know how to hold an axe.
âI do not need a body guard, and I certainly do not need you,â she continued heatedly. With that, she yanked her axe from the assassinâs corpse and wipes the blood and matter off of her tunic. She brooded for a moment, then jerked her head.
âThank you, anyways,â she said, âfor helping me. You didnât have to.â
Kassandra had met few women with such fire in their blood; it was rare and a quality Kassandra truly loved. But she hadnât expected it thrown at her. She shifted her arm as she tightened the surrounding wrap. âWhat do you mean? Iâm⊠no?â Kassandra raised a brow as she had to laugh a little. âTrust me, if I was on babysitting duty, you would know. I just heard them,â Sharper senses, quicker reflects. Itâs why she was often called a demigod.
âOf course you donât need me. None of you do,â Kassandra grinned, amused by her heated words and watching the strength she held to pull out the weapon. She moved over, grabbing the sword and looking at the blade. Looking over toward Randvi, she smiled. âSee, that wasnât so hard. A little thank you. Youâre welcome,â she mused as she stood back up.
However, the movement was too fast, and suddenly Kass felt her head spin. She stumbled and pressed her hand against the wall, and her other hand pressed up against her eyes as she allowed the dizzy spell to subside. Blood loss? Possibly, but doubtful, she didnât lose that much yet. The only other thought was something on the blade, though she didnât smell any poison. Perhaps it was odorless, and why they planned to use it?
âMalakas!â Kassandra growled as she pushed herself back up, trying to hasten away from Randvi. She had to get to her own house and deal with this.
Randvi watched, concerned, as the misthios struggled to stay on her own two feet. Darting forward she caught Kassandra by the elbow to steady herâthough it mightâve been futile given the height difference between them.
âMaâwhat?â She asked confusedly, though quickly shook it off. âAre you well, Kassandra? You are very paleâsweating bullets.â
As if to prove a point, she wipes her hand across her forehead, only for it to come away glistening with moisture. She jerked Kassandra back towards her pointedly and stood her ground crossly.
âWhat is it? Donât runâyou need help,â she insisted.
mapwielderâ:
Vibrations from the thunder outside caused the frame of the longhouse to rattle, though it remained steadfast through the storm that plagued their borough tonight. No one would be sneaking around in wicked weather like thisâthey would all be tucked away, safely in their beds.
Randvi sat atop furs next to Eivor and contemplated her words in the darkness. She shook her head and threw another log in the fire to keep it from going out.
âWe have all night. What plagues your mind, mighty warrior?â She questioned sincerely. Her gaze remained elsewhere, as to give Eivor the time that she needed, for surely she was not used to confiding in others what haunted her in the darkness of the night.
âDo you have nightmares?â Randvi began. âOr perhaps the battle still rages in your mind while you try to rest?â Another stick. Some kindling. The fire burned well and bright now.
âTell me. I will listen. Much more than I would a fable.â
Eivor sat on the ground, her arms resting against her knees as the longhouse shook a little from the thundering of the sky. No one would come into the longhouse, it was just Randvi and herself. Others would be in their home, riding out this terrible storm. Her eyes lingered on the flames of the fireplace, the flames licking against the wood and the smell soothing.
The question hung in the air with only the thunder to sing an answer at the moment. Where did she start? âEverything,â Eivor whispered, as she glanced down at the ground and shook her head as if ashamed to admit such things. âNightmares, battled, Odin, itâs all haunting. I never sleep well most nights,â Eivor admitted. Did Randvi hear her at night in her own room? Did Sigurd? She wasnât that far from their room and she rarely slept well most nights.
Looking up, she watched as Randvi ensured the fire stayed alive for the night, as she stayed the advisorâs room for now. âOdin whispers to me sometimes, and always deem that while I seek glory and honor, to bring it to the people I care for, that I havenât done the right. Even my father, Sigurdâs father never approved of what I did. And now, Iâm trying so hard to prove myself to Sigurd and even he disproves of it sometimes,â But that wasnât what haunted Eivor, it was what lead up to what she did and all she tried to do to earn the approval of others.
âSigurd and I had an argument just a few weeks ago. I wasnât doing what he approved of and I only did what I thought would bring out Town honor. It wasnât enough,â Never was enough. Nothing she did was enough. She closed her eyes as she lowered her head. âI never liked thunderstorms.â Perhaps it was chaotic, how Eivor hadnât quite brought up the history of why she didnât like thunderstorms, but she was building up to it. Mighty warrior. Eivor questioned even that word. She didnât fear death, but she feared being lost. A deep breath ran through her lungs, the smell of hickory wood filling her sense as she licked her lip. âI donât know where to start,â Eivor questioned. She didnât want Randvi to think so little of her when she opens up about what troubles her.
Eivor couldnât bare to lose Randviâs respect.
The fire flickered in the dark of the bedroom as Eivor confessed what had been plaguing her as of late. The more she continued, the more it made sense: the nighttime terrors that Randvi overheard from her bed, the endless stalking about that she did, even the bags under her eyes that she seemingly ignored.
Odin was speaking to her in her dreams? These were visions, were they not? What did it mean in the long run? Did he help her or tempt her?
After a long silence filled with poking at the wood, Randvi spoke up.
âHave you discussed these dreams with Valka?â She questioned softly. âShe would be the best consult for your visions of Odin. Even if you are⊠suffering, somewhat, you can only do your best, Eivor.â
The redhead shifted closer and placed her hand atop of hers encouragingly.
âYou can tell me as much as you need to, Wolf-Kissed. Do not be afraid. Only the wind of the storm will hear any words exchanged between us two tonight.â

The minute that sharp metal meets the balmy skin of Kassandra, Randvi feels the sudden impulse to scream.
Of course she obliges itâthe vocalisation rips through her throat like a snarl in the heat of combat. She knew her back had been turnedâbut now theyâd face her wrath with her full attention. She shoved the Grecian out of the way with an unseen force and immediately hurled both of her axes into the heads of the assassins that had encroached upon their encampment.
Seeing the blood seep from the freshly killed corpses into the soil quenched some of her rage. Randvi turned to Kassandra on the ground. Her eyes flickered to the large gash down her arm with some form of disappointment. Wordlessly she lowered herself and tore fabric off of her tunic.
âI can defend myself, Kassandra,â she said haughtily. âThere was no need for such a risk!â
[ @mapwielderâ ]
Kassandra hissed as the weapon cut cleanly through her skin. Why didnât immortality do something about her mortal flesh? She turned and glared, though, as if being wounded and bleeding only made her angrier. Before she could do a think about it, though, she felt a hand against her body and pushed backwards as she instinctively pivoted on her foot and skidded slightly and saw the axes hit the assassins, two axes in two heads.
A growl left her lips as she looked over at the two that were dead and immediately scanned the area. She needed to make sure there was no one else, no other assassins or allies to them that planned to try to take out Randvi. No doubt since Eivor was gone, Randvi was the one in charge and if they took her out, they could bring chaos to the town.
The voice broke Kassandra out of her mindset, and she turned her head to look at Randvi and raised a brow. âI never said you couldnâtâ defend yourself,â Kassandra stated, and shook her head. âIâve dealt with assassins. I am one myself. There was no time to warn you for you to turn around and react,â Kassandra said, as she glanced down at the gash on her upper arm. IT was deep, the dagger slashed through and she needed to check to see if it had been poisoned. She rather not suffer through the illness.
Lowering down, she reached over and took the dagger from the dead assassin as blood stained down her arm and dripped onto the ground. âIâm okay, really,â

»    @mapwielderâââ  â â  asked  ::  âdo you think itâs infected?â
Eivor reached her hand over and pulled up Randviâs suit. The wound didnât look infected yet, but it could be. She guided her hand along the edges of the wound, seeing if she could feel any heat or raised pressure. Once Eivor was sure she didnât see the rise of an infection, she pulled over a bag that she carried with her at all times. Valka had given her different salves and ointments in case she ever ran into a situation while on her own. She pulled out a few containers and set them down.
âThese should help keep an infection from setting in, and the other helps with healing and pain.â she washed the wound first with some water and glanced up toward Randvi. âHow did you get this?â Eivor questioned, as she smooth some of the salve over the wound and then took a wrap and moved it over the wound and around Randviâs waist making sure it was secure and then she pulled down Randviâs shirt.
Randvi grimaced and watched as the warrior went through the motions. Her abdomen burned fiercely and felt hot to touchâit felt off. Something told her it wasnât a normal wound. A poison, or a venom, perhaps? A curse?
Notably, it took her longer than usual to give a proper answer, though it seemed she just wanted to bite her tongue and not give it away. Begrudgingly, she muttered:
âI stole an armour set from a hamlet upriver and one of them nicked me.â
