“Coco, Caelus, behave!” You dragged your whining niece and nephew inside the children's hospital despite their tantrums.

“Nonono! No doctor!” Little Caelus cried, holding on to his little garbage can plushie. “Nooo… Noooooo…” Little Coco sniffles sadly, trying to wipe her snot on her fuzzy brushbuddy toy.

This has been going on for a few minutes already. After your cousin went on a business trip three days ago, these two little angels have been giving you the best time of your life.

And nobody told you that these kids need a check-up!

So with a grumbling sigh, you dragged the two crying children to the receptionist. “Excuse me, these two here are scheduled for a check-up.” you nudged a look down at Coco and Caelus, much quieter now but with a bit of snot running down their noses.

“Coco… Caelus…”  The receptionist chimed, her hands clacked on the keys as she shuffled through the appointments in the monitor screen. “Oh! Coco and Caelus.” 

“They're two separate doctors.”

You blinked in confusion. Two? Seriously?

“What? Why two?” The question came out condescending, but the receptionist just sighs. “We're so sorry, there's been a few shuffles on the doctors lately. But, rest assured, the documents and details of the children submitted are with their assigned doctors.”

The explanation immediately got into you—so to just get this whole appointment over with, you nodded in agreement. “Alright, who are these doctors anyway?”

“Let me see…” The receptionist squinted her eyes. “Miss Coco is assigned to Doctor Qifrey… As for Caelus…” She scrolls her mouse a bit lower. “He's assigned to Doctor Khaslana.”

“And the time?” another few seconds of scrolling.

“Oh Caelus can be taken in now, Coco’s appointment is in thirty minutes.”

With the time determined; gently, you picked Coco up and gave her a gentle smile. “Will you be a good girl and stay here with miss receptionist, Coco?”

Coco nods quietly, her arms tightly held on to her brushbuddy toy. “Mmkay..”

Now that Coco is settled, you placed her down a chair for children and picked Caelus up, his one hand holding on to his garbage can plushie while the other desperately held on to your neck. “I'm scared..”

“It's okay, Caelus.” You gently pat his head and calmly walked to the room labeled ‘Doctor Khaslana || Open’

“Excuse me..” Your knuckles gently knocked on the door, followed by a “Oh come in!” as you turned the knob and went in.

The room was… calming to say the least. The doctor's desk remained near the door, but the room served a little nook for children. Tiny chairs on the corner coming in yellow and purple colors; the nook with a cute wheat field wallpaper, with tiny wooden toys like swords, shields, and spears kept on the corner.

Doctor Khaslana should supposedly be in his chair but he's also there on the nook—tidying up remaining toys. “Please give me a second.” He playfully hummed.

“There.” A second passed as he stood up and turned, only then did you realize that this guy is tall as a tower…

“Good afternoon! I'm Doctor Khaslana.” He gazed at you for quite a few seconds, then finally at little Caelus. “Hey little buddy.” Khaslana crouches to meet the little boy in the eye. “Call me Phainon, alright?”

“Fai…nun..” Caelus shyly mumbles and it seemed to make Phainon laugh. “Haha! Just like that!” He ruffled the kid's hair.

He stood up once more and offered to shake your hand. “A wonderful pleasure to meet you. Let's sit?” He smiles and offers you the seat nearest to his chair.

This doctor has gotta be nuts. You thought, because who honestly would waste such handsome looks for pediatrics?! 

Still, you cannot deny that this doctor is awfully handsome, how old is he–twenty-five? twenty-eight?

“I'm twenty-eight.” Phainon blurts out, while writing on the patient records. “I mean… If you're wondering…” He sheepishly smiles.

You cannot deny the warmth creeping up your cheeks, was this room always this hot? Even with the air conditioner set on a pretty cold temperature, the smile that Phainon just gave you was enough to make you feel even just a teensy bit self-conscious.

“So! Little Caelus…” Phainon darts his gaze back to Caelus who surprisingly, stops looking anxious and is staring brightly at Phainon. “This is my little buddy.” He takes his stethoscope with a grin. “His name is Neikos! Is it okay if me and Neikos give you a little check?”

Another surprising feat as Caelus nodded eagerly, the persuasion proved to be effective as the little boy hands you his trash can plushie and extends his arms to Phainon, demanding uppies.

“Good job!” Phainon pats Caelus’ head, as he begins simple check-ups.

“You're really good with kids.” You expressed your awe over his amazing skill of making kids safe.

“Thank you, they did say I'd make a great dad.”

Phainon snickers softly, giving you a subtle glance as he focuses back to Caelus; still quiet and behaved.

It didn't take long for the check-up to finish, Phainon asked you basic questions about Caelus’ growth, appetite, and his sleeping habits.

“Very well, he doesn't have any complications.” Phainon puts his stethoscope to rest and smiles at Caelus. “Good work!” He raises his hand to give the boy a high-five.

“Since you've done so well, have a candy.” Phainon takes a tiny candy from his sweets jar and hands it over to Caelus, the little boy smiling with glee. “I'll talk to your mom for a second, okay? Look at those toys, wanna play with them?” Phainon coos and points to the children's nook, and without a sliver of hesitation, Caelus runs to the nook and starts playing with the toys, giving his garbage can plushie a toy sword.

The statement caught you off guard. A mom? You've heard a lot of misconceptions but you've never had anyone assuming that you're these two little kid's mothers..

“They're so adorable.” Phainon chuckles and gives you his full attention. “So what were we saying?–ah yes right.” He fixes his posture and looks you straight in the eye. “Caelus has no complications, give yourself a pat in the back, you're a great mom.”

“Oh I'm not his mom.. I'm his aunt.” You immediately protested, trying to brush off the awkwardness you felt after hearing his assumption.

“Oh really?” As if that reply made Phainon's face beam in joy. “Not mom?? Just aunt???” He double checked with a question, his face seemed to soften and lean closer. And to answer him, you nodded, a joyous grin elicited from his face soon after.

“Wonderful!–ahem..” He bashfully clears his throat. “Since Caelus has no problems, I won't have to give a prescription for anything.” He takes a prescription paper and writes.

“Here. Open it when you get home.” Phainon hands you the paper, both your hands lingered with a touch when you took the paper from his large hands.

“Thanks..” That familiar heat went up to your cheeks once more, to save yourself from embarrassment, you cleared your throat and called the little boy. “C'mon Caelus, it's time to go.”

Caelus gets up and grabs his plushie, clinging back to you as he gives Phainon a big wave. “Buh bye Fainun!” He hails as Phainon returns it with a cheeky grin. “Bye bye little buddy!” 

When the doors went shut, you silently squealed in relief. That has got to be some kind of punishment. You've seen a share of handsome doctors in your life but Phainon? He knows he's hot.

Out of desperation to keep yourself intact, you slapped your cheek and moved on.

Now that Caelus is done, it's Coco's turn. You walked back to the chair you made Coco sit in. “Hey Coco it's time–” 

Coco is nowhere to be found, the chair left abandoned as the panic starts to seep in. Where could Coco have gone?

“Coco? Coco!!” You call out, eyes frantically searching and prancing around while Caelus starts to get anxious. “Coco??” The little boy calls out as well.

A few seconds passed with no response anywhere until finally… “Auntie!” A little squeak caught your ears.

You snapped your head to the direction of the voice and saw Coco, smiling with her brushbuddy in her hands. A taller man held her in his arms, smiling gently as he approached them.

“Oh, are you Coco’s guardian?” The man asks, eyeing you intently from head to toe. You spared him a look and checked the tag on his coat. Qifrey.

“I'm Coco's doctor.” Qifrey puts Coco down, the two little children reuniting and hugging. “Waaah! Coco!” Caelus whines. “It's okay Cae! Mister Qifrey took care of me!” She tugs on Qifrey’s coat.

“You shouldn't be leaving children unattended like that.” Qifrey added, his tone laced with disappointment. “I am deeply sorry… But thank you for taking care of Coco too..” You looked at Coco ashamed.

Qifrey was right, you should've just brought Coco inside with Caelus during his check-up. They're both children, even if this was a children's hospital, you shouldn't leave a child unattended.

“No worries, but you should be saying that to Coco.” He glances at Coco who pats your hand. “I'm okay auntie… Thank you! Mister Qifrey is very nice!” The little girl assures you and pats your leg after.

“Shall we come in?” Qifrey offers, walking you to the room and opening the door for you. Although that action was quite confusing, doctors aren't exactly opening doors for you. Then why is he doing so?

You brushed off the confusing action and held Caelus and Coco's hands as you walked in—Caelus surprisingly tame now and sits quietly beside Coco after Qifrey offers a chair.

Unlike Doctor Phainon's room, Qifrey’s looked majestic. Stars and magic motifs plastered all over the walls; a little wooden table on a children's nook with small drawing papers and pencils labelled ‘magic pens’. Little story books on a purple shelf with fantasy themes and different colored dragons for book covers. The nook also comes complete with a velvet colored rug and little toys scattered on the floor.

“Ah pardon the mess… I just had one of my patients come in earlier and play with it… “ He smiles in embarrassment. “Ah Tetia, seriously…” He mumbles and fixes his seat.

“Alright, Coco is the patient, right?” At the mention of her name, Coco gets up and smiles “Yes! It’s me!” 

Qifrey takes his stethoscope and looks gently at Coco. “Let's check you up, okay Coco?” His voice envelops the room, soft and gentle.

Carefully, Qifrey checks all of Coco’s vitals, heartbeat, height, and several questions about her wellbeing.

“For an auntie in charge, you're taking care of your nephews and nieces quite well.” He hums while writing on the patient record. “Coco is free of any complications.”

“Though I must say she's quite the fast learner, independent too.” Qifrey observes Coco who is now playing and drawing little circles on the drawing paper, copying the sigil on one of the dragon story books while Caelus stared at the book, drool slowly dripping.

“Ah yeah, she really likes to draw too.” You chuckle, attention also seemingly drawn to Coco. 

Qifrey puts his pen down. “So you are aware.” The sound of his desk opening caught your ears, turning to look at him, he wrote on a small piece of paper and handed it to you.

“I’ll give you this, just in case you need a chart of how you'll track Coco’s growth.” He swiftly slid the paper on to your hands, his slender fingers intertwining with yours as he dips the paper in, eye contact with yours never breaking even for a second.

Qifrey offers you a flirty smile, his fingers slowly stroking your palm he pulls away.

The stare made you bashful, on equal par with the charming smile that Doctor Phainon gave you earlier.

What is up with handsome doctors in this children's hospital? Do you need the word ‘handsome’ in your resume to be qualified?

“Coco, it's time to go.” Qifrey stands up from his seat, leaving you flustered and confused as he approaches Coco and Caelus. “Is it time already?” Your niece pouts, but all Qifrey did was give a smile.

“Unfortunately, yes. I also have other little kids to take care of.” He picks Coco and Caelus up like they weighed nothing. “I gave your auntie something, ask her sometime if you want to talk ‘kay?” 

Coco nods over his explanation, Caelus on the other hand stares back at you. “Home?” he asks.

“Yes, home.” You took Caelus from Qifrey's arms and held Coco by her hand with her brushbuddy in her pocket when she's placed down.

Qifrey holds the door open for you to walk out of “Thank you, Doc.” you offered a shy smile and walked out.

“Doctor Qifrey is so cool!!” Coco exclaims while walking down the hallway to the elevator. “He's so nice!”

Caelus wriggles out of your arms and walks beside you, holding your hand. “Doctor Fainun! Cool..!” He exclaims.

You can't help but laugh at the cute reactions your little nieces and nephews expressed. It seems that their doctors really caught their hearts and minds.

When you got home, the ‘prescription’ paper that Doctor Phainon gave and the note Doctor Qifrey handed you immediately crossed your mind.

While Coco and Caelus sat in the living room watching television, you opened both papers in unison.

Warmth spreads in your chest as you browse through endearing photos of happy dogs. Happy dogs of different kinds who were, presumably, walked by previous volunteers. Numerous supporters flooded the post—their traction wasn’t bad. They had lots of heart reactions. Comments. Some were calling how lovely the dogs were, and how great their company was, to the point that they’d ‘volunteer’ again.

This, of course, is excellent for someone like you.

They have strict rules, which is understandable, and according to them, only special volunteers can get to have that choice. You’re not entirely sure of what they mean by that, but you figured that it was probably reserved for regular volunteers, or volunteers who have done them a great favor. So first timers were not part of the equation.

Seriously, there were a lot of super cute dogs, but most of them were already booked. It amazed you that their service was so top tier that the dogs were not available. You’d seriously take lots of photos when you get your hands on him, and you’d definitely bury your face on the dog’s snowy fur. 

You also plan to record the dog’s woofs, because aeons, samoyeds were seriously just so CUTE. Well. At least that’s what Astraltok shows you. Some of them may be a bit too exaggerated or perfect looking, but nothing could go wrong when it comes to dogs.

So, yeah. Phainon. The fluffy samoyed. Walk Your Dog claimed that Phainon was a great companion, and that he’d make sure to make your time with him worthwhile. They also emphasized that being with him would surely be unforgettable, and this excited you even more. 

You felt so proud of yourself that time. You were going to have so much fun with the dog, and you were definitely not going to brag about it on social media.

You also made note of the additional information that was also in the dog’s profile, like his age being 21, and his measurements, but you ascertained it to the service being creative. Perhaps he was 21 in dog years, and he was 5’11. . . well, if the pup probably stood in two feet. Kind of terrifying to think about, but samoyeds were big dogs, weren’t they?

Anywho, you weren’t too particular with the details. All that matters is that you’re going to walk and bond with a super cute fluffy dog today, and you’ll be broadcasting in Astralgram, because you have a life. All that matters is you’re doing something good for the pet community, and that you’re doing pretty well as a member of the society. 

Ping! Your phone flashes you a notification, and you suppress your squeals. Phainon is about to arrive soon! 💕

Actually, no, you can’t hide your squealing. You’re very much thrilled by what you’re about to do in the next few minutes, because you’re finally going to meet the fluffiest ball ever. You’re gonna kneel to its level, squish its super duper cute face, bask in its presence, before skipping away to walk it for two damn hours. 

It’s gonna be one hell of a time for you, and you’ve mentally patted your back for such a good job. 

“Hi, good morning! Are you—” A breathy, yet deep voice calls for your name, and you pause. “The one who booked for Walk Your Dog?”

You turn around, already beaming and expecting the white samoyed. “Yes—!“ Only to not see said white samoyed anywhere, but a gorgeous, gorgeous tall man with white, fluffy hair and the bluest eyes you’ve ever seen. A gorgeous, gorgeous man who apparently hides a lot of beef under that tight, compression shirt, and you gulp. Then, you shake your head, focusing in on the present. What the? Who is this? Is this a staff from the service? “Um. Sorry. Where’s the dog?”

The man blinks, puzzled. You don’t know why he’s also confused, and for some reason, alerts inside your head start to go off. 

Wait a second.

He rubs the back of his head. “Oh! Well. You see, I’m the dog.” White, no—snowy, pointed ears perk up from his tuffs, and your lips part at the sight. Wait. You catch an even fluffier tail behind him wag, and this time, your jaw drops. To the floor. “I’m Phainon. I’ll be the samoyed you’ll be walking today!”

Your knees give in.

And just as planned, you did kneel in front of the samoyed.

Again, you don’t know a lot about the world. No one does. No one is that perfect.

So can anyone really blame you for being stupid?

Well, Cipher would surely laugh. Aunt Tribios and Aglaea did give you both a life lesson once, that not everything you see is what they seem, and they’ve never been more right. How did you miss it? How can you be so dense?

Now everything’s making sense. 

“You see, there’s this thing called hiding in plain sight,” Aglaea said before, when she was stitching a torn up shirt of Cipher’s. “There may be one person, or a group of people who would utilize this strategy. You both ought to be careful. Make sure to stay vigilant at all times. If your gut tells you that there’s something off, then there’s something off.”

Well, how were you supposed to know that Walk Your Dog was a secret escort service in Okhema!?

“No, you’re not just using your brain,” is what Mydei will say if he learns about this. Then Castorice will admonish him and console you. But you have no plans of telling them that your plan of proving to the universe that you have something going on backfired, because you scored a date. Or a hookup. Holy shit.

“W-Wait, Miss, what happened?! Why are you on the ground?” You’re spiraling so much that you haven’t registered it yet that the samoyed hybrid also knelt down with you. That the samoyed is trying his best how to handle you. Everything’s making sense. Oh my god. The fucking site. The fucking site!

Oh my god, his age. It’s not in dog years. It’s actually his fucking age, and—you gape at him. Horrified, by this epiphany. 

5’11. He’s fucking 5’11.

Yeah, humanity was a mistake. 

Humanity had a bunch of weirdos. 

“Miss?”

You feel your heart cry out. No fucking way he looks this adorable too because fuck, dog hybrids are seriously one of a kind because you’re endeared even though you’re severely weirded out by this whole situation. He has his ears flopped, and tail drooped down.

What a wonderful hybrid. He seems earnest in his worrying for you, with his hands fumbling around your form, not knowing where to touch. 

You swallow, before gripping his wrists. Wow, he’s warm, and he’s solid. He’s real. And he’s gorgeous. Fuck, you think you’re about to fall into some sort of rabbit hole.

He freezes, before blinking again. His eyes are on you, and you swallow again, panicking.

“I’m sorry, there must’ve been a HUGE misunderstanding. Huge,” you tell him, with lips quivering. You don’t know why you said huge again, but you blame it on him for having larger hands. ( If he held yours, you’re sure it’ll be concealed by how large they are. ) People who are passing by in Okhema Activity Park witness your pathetic attempts of repenting, and you wish for the soil to devour you whole. But you must face the consequences of your actions, ‘cause that’s just how life works. “Please, forget that this happened. And I know what it’s like for you guys, and—well, I haven’t experienced it, but I’ve heard stories, so just. Take my money. Phainon.”

You even said his name, and you watch how his eyes go a little wide at that, as if stunned. As if he’s fascinated by what had just transpired. You don’t know why he’s making that face, but you assume that this case you have with him is a first for him.

His ears perk up, and his tail wags briefly, before he returns to the expression he had before. 

What the hell.

His ears lower back down, and he purses his lips.

“. . .So, we’re not going for a walk?”

You feel as if a heavy boulder was thrown against your back. He’s CONCERNED about the fucking WALK!?

You’ve really never felt more stupid in your life.

As of the moment, to at least prove to the world that you’re doing well as a member of society, you’re not crossing the pedestrian lane even though there were no cars passing around. 

The stoplight is red.

And on your side, is a panting, giddy pure bred samoyed beside you, while holding his leash.

Walk Your Dog said, the pup knows how to get what he wants. 

You’ve explained to him briefly that you genuinely thought that this was a literal dog walking service, hence the immediate cancellation of this session. You thought that Phainon the Samoyed would laugh at you, judge you for being such a goddamn idiot, before taking his money away. 

But no such thing happened. Instead, he merely laughed. It was so dreamy you weren’t going to lie, you had to stop yourself from clutching your chest. Then, the understanding hybrid remarked, “If that’s the case, allow yourself to walk me still. I just couldn’t take your money without doing anything.”

To which you retorted, “I’m giving you an opportunity, pup. To earn free money.”

He just grinned with his eyes closed. “And I’m also giving you an opportunity to get to know each other. Or to get to know about the service. Wouldn’t that be fun? Well, that is, if you’re interested. So, what do you say?”

A normal person would’ve just rejected the offer. And insist for the hybrid to take the money because you unintentionally wasted his time. And yet you relented, because again, Walk Your Dog explicitly said that Phainon knows how to get what he wants.

You couldn’t believe you were so weak.

Plus, you did say that it wouldn’t hurt to learn more about the world.

“Please? I promise, I’m gonna make it worth your while.”

How familiar, you almost lurched.

It didn’t help that he used the scrunched eyebrows and almost shimmering blue eyes combo, too.

Fucking dogs, you swear.

So when you said fine, you ignored the fact how your heart performed somersaults when he beamed. His perky white ears made an appearance, and his fluffy white tail wagged again behind him. 

You raised your hand before he can even speak, “But I have one request!! Um, can you turn into a samoyed? Please?” 

It was already so weird, but thank the aeons Phainon did.

He laughed again. Why was his laugh hot? Damn it. “Sure! If that’s what the client wants.”

More like what he wants, ‘no? You suppose Phainon is in his most comfortable form because he’s clearly enjoying the walk with his tongue out. It’s a cute sight, really—and you are resisting the urge to take a damn photo for your dignity, but you fear you'll collapse soon.

Also, you’ve walked Phainon. Dogs like walks. And dogs like exploring and meeting new people. 

But for some reason, even though people coo at Phainon to get his attention, and he gives them in return, Phainon more so keeps on looking at you, or fully fixates on you.

Must be part of the dog package or something, you ponder quietly when you dip your head down, and meet his adorable fluffy face while you saunter the streets together. His tail wags cheerfully, and your hand twitches. Oh god, control yourself, girl. That’s a hybrid. What you’re going to do is weird. Odd. Strange. And whatever synonym you can think of.

After 30 mins of walking, you’ve decided to take a breather in another bench in Okhema Activity Park. You recall how embarrassed you got when you were strapping the leash on Phainon’s collar in his dog form, because again, that’s a hybrid—he turns into a human, don’t ever forget, and it’s already so weird that you’re putting a collar on a species that also turns into  human, but this is how this service worked, apparently. 

( Also, it’s amazing how the sun mark on his neck can also be seen in his full dog form, but through his fur. )

Speaking of the samoyed, he was just gazing at you again, and you don’t know what he’s thinking about. Not until he bonks your knee with his head, and you lift a brow questioningly.

You nervously ask, “W–What?” 

Another bonk. 

“What, Phainon? Do you want to—to pee, or something?”

If he did, he already did. And you have an inkling that Phainon is not that gross. He has decorum still. Most likely he’ll be hiding somewhere else just to flush it all out. 

Then, Phainon whines. Be still, your heart. Oh my god. Why is he so cute? And why are you so mean? There’s a real, pure samoyed looking at you with the saddest eyes ever. You’re evil for not doing anything.

“I—I don’t know what you want,” you admit to him. “If you want something, say it. You can’t talk in that form?”

He huffs. Must’ve been a yes. And since he can’t talk, Phainon’s fluffy head searches for your hand. His heated breath brushes over your skin, and before you know it, he gives you a lick.

“Woah, hey! Why are you—“

Phainon whines again, and it hits you. You gawk at him for a moment, still contemplating if you’re going to proceed with what you have to do. Then Phainon rests his chin on your knee, begging, and there’s an arrow that strikes you from behind.

Aeons.

“A-ah,” you stammer, before a shaky hand elevates, shadowing a bit of the dog’s face. “My bad. I just thought it’ll be odd for me to pet you, considering the situation—“

Another whine. How many more whines will it get? You don’t know if you’re seriously going to crash out because you’re anxious by the fast course of events, but also charmed at the same time because Phainon’s so cute and you don’t want to mess things up. This is the full truth.

“Okay, okay. Fine. Sure. I’m—I’m gonna pet you. Just hold still, okay?”

And it’s not a groundbreaking climax. He complies, and you slowly rest your palm on top of his head, testing the water. Seconds pass, and wow—wow. It’s fluffier than you can ever imagine. It is like a cloud. He is like a fluffball.

Phainon leans onto your touch, and you watch how his tail wags side by side again. In those Walk Your Dog marketing materials, you’ve gotten a rough idea of what dogs look like when they’re happy.

And Phainon seems thoroughly overjoyed by the petting.

You shatter. You just can’t handle it anymore. Another hand raises, and you, in full force, start to squish the samoyed’s face, irrevocably captivated. You have been won over by the samoyed.

Luckily for you, Phainon didn’t mind.

30 minutes of walking flew by—and again, you’re sitting on a bench, but this time, you have the samoyed beside you. Residents of Okhema have stolen pictures, and even asked for your permission prior to this. You let them because you don’t own Phainon. 

A few minutes ago, the samoyed quietly. . . yet freely cuddled itself close to you. He pressed his snout on your arm, and then on your neck. It was a weird sensation but you yelped when his wet nose touched your cheek.

Two eyes blinked when you took a look at him. As if he was examining your reactions. As if he was finding out what you were about to do next.

Again, it was weird ( you have no idea how much you’ve used the word weird ), but you sighed, and carefully leaned back against him anyway. Soon enough, your head was resting on the pup’s side, and your eyes were slightly blocked by snow fur.

Then, Phainon gives a deep woof, and you close your eyes.

You hear the thumpthumpthump, but pay it no mind.

It will be over soon. You did not waste those two hours. The dog insisted the walks. You have photos and videos to share now, too.

“Did you have fun today?”

You instantly detach yourself away from him after that. He’s back to his hybrid human self. Feeling your cheeks heating up, you nod bashfully. “Um—y-yeah!” Then, you narrow your eyes at him. “Can you also give me a head’s up at least when you’re transforming back?”

Phainon snickers, “I’m sorry. You seemed so content that I didn’t want to disturb you.” Then, he smiles lightly. “Which means you did, since you did not even notice me transforming back?”

Now your face gets even hotter. “What. No!” Phainon’s ears are up again, and his tail is wagging, again. Fuck. “I’m not a weirdo.”

Phainon just laughs again, “Sure.”

“I am not!”

“Mm,” He hums, and your heart skips when that smile remains on his lips. 

You avert your gaze away, not knowing how to feel about that.

There’s a few minutes of silence. To avoid feeling awkward, you listen to the sounds inside Okhema Activity Park. The leaves rustling from above. The kids’ voices as they run around the grass. The bells ringing from passing bikes. 

And Phainon’s gentle breathing beside you.

“You smell really good, you know,” he says, and of course, you’re taken aback.

“B-bwuh? What?”

You stare at him as if he grew two heads. You’re waiting for the I’m just kidding, but his expression hasn’t changed a bit. In fact, he’s genuine.

“I said you smell good. You smell nice.”

Now who’s calling me weird? Or maybe because this is just how hybrids are. You don’t know their biology. “I don’t know what to feel about that.”

The amused Phainon smiles wider. “Trust me, it’s a compliment.”

“To be honest I’m a bit freaked out.”

“Understandable.”

You look away again. You want to tell him to turn into a samoyed so this won’t be awkward, because you’re intimidated by his size, because does he know that his pecs are about to pop out from his compression shirt, or or that he’s shining so brightly you can’t look away, or or —

“It’s still so comical how you thought that this was a literal dog walking service,” Phainon suddenly brings up, and you glance at him. “Walk Your Dog is clever with their strategy to attract their potential clients or target audience. At first glance, it may seem innocent at the surface, not until you dig deeper. Did you really not realize that we’re not all what we seem?”

“I get it. There’s no need to rub it in, Phainon,” you pout at him, and you miss his ears twitch. “There’s still a lot of things that I don’t know about the world, okay?”

Phainon releases another chuckle. “Okay. I won’t hold it against you.”

…

There are numerous thumps as the samoyed’s tail continuously wags behind him. “But seriously, how come you’ve never realized?”

You groan, “Phainon!”

“So.” Tonight, you are facing Cipher’s shit-eating grin in the coffee shop where you guys regularly meet after each semester. Sipping her iced drink, she says, “Someone’s been active. You having fun walking a dog these days, huh?”

Your heart pounds. It’s no secret that you’ve been posting about the samoyed recently. You’ve shared in Astralgram how you’ve been spending time with the pup every two weeks, or sometimes even every week, when you’re missing him. You go on walks, or even eat out together—unfortunately your pup is a big eater, it’s concerning sometimes.

You won’t forget that one day when he asked if he could take a bite of your burger, and he literally devoured the whole thing. His tail was wagging so happily despite you admonishing him for the biggest crime he ever committed. 

But still, your friends do not know.

They do not know the truth.

“Yeah. Walking the dog is actually helping me get into shape. I walk him every two hours whenever I have him.” You tell them, and you swirl your preferred order with your teaspoon.

Castorice sends you a wonderful smile. “That sounds wonderful. If you wouldn’t mind, maybe we could join you one day when you walk the samoyed?”

Oh, no. That’s not possible. Over your dead body. They cannot know. Even though you and Phainon plan to act all normal, these three friends of yours will eventually realize what’s all underneath it.

But still, remain calm. Remain composed. Like Mydei, who has just his eyes shut tight, and arms crossed, though he’s evidently listening.

“S–sure, one day, one day,” You laugh a little. “But I’ll have to warn you—he’s a bit of a biter. Nowadays, he can’t stop biting me for some reason. It doesn’t hurt. And it doesn’t bleed. I feel like it’s more of a playful bite, if anything.”

“He could probably still be thinking that he’s a puppy,” Cipher explains with a shrug. “All dogs have that phase. They still think that they’re like young babies.”

An image of Phainon, in his full samoyed form, or even in his hybrid human form, making himself comfortable in your lap, or laying on top of you, appears in your mind. That couldn’t be further than the truth.

“Phainon, you’re so heavy! Stop it!”

He just laughs, and ignores you anyway. It’s already too late for you to push him away because he found the perfect spot to melt against you. He sighs in delight.

“Good night.”

“What?! No, Phainon—get off!”

“Haha, call my name again?”

You were suffocating so overwhelmed that day because of a gorgeous slash beefy hybrid samoyed man on top of you, and yet you wouldn’t have it any other way.

And when the topic shifts to a new one, you give the floor to Cipher and Castorice as they share updates from their new adventures. It is not long before Mydei elbows you lightly on the arm, and you look up at him, curious.

“What?”

“You’re glowing.”

Your face steams. “Wha-?”

“Glowing.” He narrows his eyes at you. “Is walking the dog the only thing happening in your life right now?”

Your task of letting the world know that you have something going on is successful, but you also have to bear the outcomes that will be gradually thrown your way.

You smiled sweetly at others. Spoke softly. Pretended to be humble.

But internally?

You considered yourself vastly superior.

The ever spectacular, the greatest psychic of the 21st century! the chosen one of this world!

Because while everyone stumbled through life blindly, you saw everything.

You knew who secretly hated each other. Who lied. Who loved. Who cheated. Who stared at your face while thinking things embarrassing enough to make you want to disinfect yourself afterward.

It was almost boring. Even gossips never seemed to entertain you.

Until him.

That bastard.

Phainon.

"You're spacing out again (Y/N)." a warm voice coaxed you out of your thoughts.

You raised your head. And there he was.

The boy who had been the source of all your annoyances for the past 10 years.

He leaned slightly into your desk with that stupidly gentle smile. "Good morning sleeping beauty," he grinned like an enthusiastic puppy, or perhaps a scheming deviant. "You look like shit btw."

Your smile twitched.

Nothing.

Not a single thought.

"I look fine." you muttered, although your fingers rose up to your hair, picking on the strands.

"Ehhh? Lying to yourself is no good (Y/N)."

This brat.

How dare a commoner like him act so rudely? If he were normal, you would have already taught him a lesson.

Unfortunately, he was an exception to your power.

Normally, people’s thoughts grew louder the closer they stood to you.

But him?

Silence.

An endless, infuriating black void of nothing.

No static. No fragments. No emotion.

And you hated it.

Absolutely hated it.

Phainon tilted his head at your obvious discomfort. "You look sick?"

You tried prying into his brain once again.

Nothing.

Either he was immune to your power or just didn't have a single thought in his miniscule brain.

"I'm absolutely fine." you glared at him.

He simply smiled.

God. How you hated him.

"I’m a psychic."

The table went silent at your confession.

The cafeteria was bustling with noise, but at the lone table where you sat, your three friends stared at you in confusion.

Castorice was the first one to break the silence. "That's wonderful!" she beamed.

"HAH? YOU BELIEVE HER???" Cipher, who was sitting beside the purple haired girl seemed flabbergasted at the stupidity.

Mydei simply lowered his drink, blinking in exhaustion.

"I can read minds," you continued seriously, hands folded near your chin. "Everyone’s."

Castorice gasped softly. "That sounds so convenient."

"It’s not." You frowned deeply. "Especially because there’s ONE person whose thoughts I can’t read at all."

Your hand slammed onto the table, the poor thing almost caving because of your rage.

"Phainon. That smug asshole."

"He'd cry if he heard you..." Mydei muttered to himself before sighing. "Why do you wanna read his mind that badly anyway?"

"I don't," you leaned back on your chair. "That's not the issue."

"Then what is?"

"The issue is I can't!" you slammed your fist on the table again, this time leaving a dent.

Cipher groaned, grabbing her plate and putting it on her lap instead.

"... You know," Mydei muttered slowly, "it’s actually pretty obvious what he’s thinking if you just look at his face."

You blinked.

"…What? That's not possible. Are you stupid?" you looked at him like he had said the earth was somehow flat.

The other three stared back.

A slow realization creeped up Mydei's thoughts. 'Oh. She's stupid.'

"I JUST TOLD YOU I CAN READ YOUR MIND ASSHOLE!" You yelled, almost wanting to throw something at him.

"Now, now," Castorice laughed nervously. "Maybe you can't do it because there’s no physical contact! "

You frowned. "Physical contact?"

"In many stories," she explained excitedly, "sometimes powers only work after direct contact."

"Oh, but I have touched him plenty" you tilted your head.

".... What?"

"His hand. His neck. His waist." You counted absentmindedly. "His leg too, I think."

Dead silence again.

"Jeez," Cipher looked away. "and they still haven't got together..."

"And I still can’t read his mind," you finished irritably, ignoring the cat girl.

The three of them looked at you like you were clinically insane.

Then Castorice snapped her fingers. "A kiss!"

You froze. "… A what?"

"In romance stories," she explained seriously, her eyes sparkling with a strange kind of interest. "sometimes lip contact establishes the final connection."

You stared at her.

The idea sounded strangely reasonable.

"…I see."

"That's so stupid-"

Mydei's words drowned as you thought about how you'd go about the plan of kissing Phainon.

The classroom glowed gold beneath the setting sun. Dust floated lazily through warm light.

And across from you, Phainon kept talking.

You weren’t listening. Not really.

Your fingers dug harshly into your palm beneath the desk.

A kiss.

Kiss.

Kiss. Him.

At the time, it had sounded logical.

Now?

Now you felt insane.

How does a kiss establish contact anyway?? What kind of deranged romance logic was that??

The only thing this stupid 'logic' was doing, was turning your thoughts wild.

Your heart thumped nervously in your chest as you imagined it.

'His lips... Near mine...' heat crawled up your neck as the scene played in your head like a cheap romance movie.

You dared to lift your eyes. Your gaze caught on his mouth almost instantly.

On the way his lips shaped each word, parting and closing with an unhurried confidence that felt far too deliberate to ignore.

It was distracting in a way that made your mind wander.

And then he wet his lips.

A slow, absent motion of his tongue, like he had no idea what he was doing to you.

You looked away too quickly, suddenly aware of your own breathing.

'WHAT AM I THINKING??? I MUST HAVE A FEVER! A FEVER I TELL YOU-!'

"Hey."

You flinched violently when you felt Phainon's hand suddenly covering yours.

"You were scratching yourself," he said softly. "I got worried."

He leaned closer. Then gently pressed the back of his hand against your forehead.

Your entire body locked up.

"…You’re not hot," he murmured. "No fever."

His hand retreated. And your fingers immediately touched the spot where they had previously been.

You gulped.

Your gaze dropped back to his lips again.

Without realizing it, your thumb brushed lightly over your own mouth. Your nails pulling on the pink flesh before letting it go.

"Hey, do you wanna kiss?"

You said it before you even realized it.

You froze.

What. Why did you say that?

Silence seemed to surround you in that moment. You opened your moment quickly to deflect, to laugh...to do anything!

But before you could do any of the above, the boy in front of you leaned closer.

And kissed you.

Kissed. You.

Your eyes widened at the sensation. He was all over your vision, in fact he was the only thing in your vision.

The strands of his pale blue hair hid his expression, but the way his ears turned red was a sure sign that he was embarrassed.

By the time he pulled away, you were frozen solid.

He laughed lightly, rubbing the back of his neck.

"That kinda came out of nowhere," he admitted. "But if you insist, I’m more than willing."

You stared at him. For the first time in your life you were rendered speechless.

Yet, you still heard nothing from his mind.

If you could just read his mind, maybe you would have never felt so lost. So confused on what he meant. On what he felt.

"You....CREEP!" you immediately got up, pointing a shaky finger at him, face flushed.

You turned before he could say anything, rushing to the door to escape.

Behind you, you could hear him laughing mockingly at your sudden retreat.

Beyond humiliated you decided to just leave him there to rot.

Unfortunatly for you, he was persistent.

You heard him scrambling behind you, grabbing your bag before chasing after you down the hallway.

"You can’t just ask someone to kiss you and then run away you know!" he called out, amusement clear in his voice.

"You shouldn’t have done it without warning!?"

"How was I supposed to know you were joking?!"

You refused to reply.

You heard footsteps approach you rapidly. Usually, you would have figured out who, what and why the footsteps treaded so closely to your space.

But unlike everyone else, you never sensed Phainon coming.

Because you couldn’t hear him.

And so you turned sharply, ready to give him a piece of your min-

He kissed you again.

This time pulling back with a grin.

"There, now we are even."

Oh.

This is what punishment must feel like. Your heart was beating wildly in your chest, you were sure that you were dying.

You gulped, raising your hands to cover your face. But Phainon never let you.

He caught your wrist before you could hide.

"Wait, before you go all pouty on me..." he smiled, stepping even closer. "Tell me why'd you ask me to kiss you?"

"…I wanted to check something." your voice was uncharacteristically soft.

"Aw man," he sighed all too dramatically. "I thought maybe you liked me."

"I don't."

His eyes narrowed at your lie, a suspicious expression on his face. "Yeah?"

His hands left your wrist, one rested on your hip and the other reached up to your neck. His fingers drew aimless circles on your collarbone, watching the way you shivered.

"Your face right now is making me think otherwise."

You opened your mouth.

No sound came out.

His smile softened.

This time when his lips inched closer, he paused. He was giving you time to stop him, to push him away if you wished.

But you did no such thing.

So he took the opportunity you presented and kissed you. Almost slowly. As if he was savoring the taste of you.

This time....it was your mind that went blank.

Extra:

You actually could read his mind.

Just not the way you thought.

Whenever he was far away, you could hear faint fragments.

'What's for lunch today?'

'(Y/N) is so pre-.'

'Should I wear my purple shirt tomorrow? Bet I'll look handsome.'

Small things.

But the moment his attention shifted fully toward you...Silence.

Not because his mind was shielded. Or that he was a rare human immune to your powers.

But because every thought he had simply stopped.

His complete focus, complete attention was all yours to take.

Only you and your voice was all he cared about.

Because to him, the moment he looked at you, nothing else in the world existed strongly enough to think about.

I wanted to write something funny for Phainon (cuz I'm not that cruel) SO HERE WE ARE!

2. Do some soft airbrush coloring on it. (Usually a blush thingy and a soft skin air coloring on the edges of the hair)

3. Do a simple shadow layer. (be mindful of where the light hits tho so it's more comprehensive:)))

4. (These are all in this one multiply layer) Grab the AIRBRUSH, ERASER, a SOFT PAINT, and the BLURRING PEN. Put some airbrush on the shadows (don't do too much tho), just lil dab there and there.

5. Using the blurring pen, smooth SOME of the edges, DON'T blur them all. Basically make some edges soft but also leave some edges hard.

6. Use the ERASER and delete some of the shadows for where the light bounces back (it's okay if it sometimes doesn't make sense) but again,,, don't overdo it, just erase what feels right for you :333

7. Grab a hard pen,,, as for my case, I used a lasso pen for the little details and again,,, don't overdo it. Grab a lighter color for the light part and use a darker color for the shadow part. You can just make lil strokes there and there, just enough to show depth and details.

8. (THIS IS A REALLY LONG PROCESS TO DO)vBalright now grab the soft painting brush, and all the brushes that I mentioned before. Use the soft painting brush for mixing the colors and use the dark/light colors accordingly. Along with that step, do the coloring method that was mentioned before too (the erasing, airbrush, lasso, etc.) u pretty much mix all the techniques,,, this is what we pretty much call the rendering phase or sumthn like that :>>

9. For tweaking some colors, use the alpha lock (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT as it only goes to where you did the coloring to) and grab the airbrush again. Pick a saturated color closest to the shadow and dab it a lil on the edges (don't do it to everything, it's gonna ruin your render tehee)

as u can see from the image, the color lightened up a bit and also became a lil saturated.

10. Still with the alpha lock, we're going to use a bluish color (this is optional because i used a different color triad, so it's different for everyone) i went with that color bc it's a common one. Same with the step 9, you do the same thing but ONLY do it on the edges (and to wherever you feel like placing it heh)

11. Now, go to the line art layer and enable the alpha lock again. Choose a saturated color closer to the color over it. Use the airbrush, and dab it a little, more specifically on the lighter side. Treat it like another rendering phase, put it accordingly to where it's light and where it's dark.

12. Now do the same thing on other aspects (eyes, lips, clothes, etc.) Go crazy go stupid with it heh

ASHVEIL

Everything was going smoothly, you have been planning this day for months to go smoothly. Your fiance was nothing but supportive towards you as well as assisting you with preparations and ideas, your wedding day is gonna be a core memory for the both of you. Finally when the day comes, before the ceremony could start a few hours ago–your soon to be husband body falls and make a large splat Infront of you and the other guests.

When people instinctively retreat and scream, you are left frozen in shock–the love of your life blood has seeped into your pristine dress, your bridesmaid and everybody tried to knock you back to your senses but nothing works not even the authorities. You were sitting as the authorities investigate and question everyone at the scene including you, but you weren't responding–right now you are just hollow until you are back to your senses and have a break down right in the spot. What stands out the most of the investigation is that your dead fiance was missing his bowtie, the police concluded that the murderer took it during the struggle.

One day you receive a call from an old friend, ashveil–a detective who is known to solve famous cases. After learning what happened, he wishes to help you find the killer. Ashveil was an old acquaintance of yours, both of you grow with each other till campus. He was a friend to you, but for him –he wishes that he would be more to you than just a friend. You lost contact with him and did not talk for 3 years, you did send an invitation but it seems he did not come... Or did he.You and him work together all day and night to find evidence, many people assume that your previous soon to be groom killed himself because he can't handle the pressure–but that doesn't make sense because the day towards the upcoming ceremony he was happy, rulling his day as a suicide doesn't make sense towards you.

Ashveil decided to offer himself to stay by your side, as if he filled the gasp of your now dead fiance. He's stuff started to pile up in your apartment, yet he excused it as him making the investigation more efficient by having him near you. For the past few months all the remnants of your fiance have been erased and replaced by ashveil, he started to consume everything even his memories and present. He stopped investigating totally even though it was his suggestion, taking care of you as well as booking therapy sessions to heal you giving medicine to cope.

One day you were cleaning some of his stuff, you accidentally spilled a box full of files–when you were cleaning it up, a file caught your attention it was information regarding your dead fiance and when you open the final page the bowtie missing from the crime scene is there. On cue the door click lock, and ashveil standing with his hands on his pocket–you confront him but he looks at you as if you're the deranged one. He embraced your body saying that you are having an episode and hilucinating saying that you need medicine, he was right for you to stop. You just stand there conflicted and even try to push him off but he was stronger, the next thing you remember was ashveil rubbing your back and finally embracing your lips– that kiss was supposed to be the seal towards you and your fiance to fate, but now it belongs to ashveil. If you are wondering why he keeps the bowtie, it's probably because he was planning on using it on you and his future wedding–it suits him better".

SUNDAY

You and your beloved have been planning this day for so long. Your wedding is near it's due date and everything was ready. As if your beloved existence was simply erased from everyone's memory and was hijacked by the Sunday guy, everything is not right... It has to be a dream or are you the one that is insane, are you hallucinating of another guy when you and Sunday are together and was about to get married. MYDEI

You were worried about mydei being invited to the ceremony, but your fiance insisted he should come to you guys wedding not seeing why you are so worked up against him. He and mydei were close of course they were companions from diapers, of course he wanted him to be his best man.

But you finally agreed, it's not that you and mydei didn't have a bad relationship in fact you and him share a friendship together. But the distance as well as the look of longing would haunt you forever, mydei was a gentleman by heart. Despite his rigid appearance he has a strong sense of justice as well as brave yet soft on the inside, if you were paying close attention maybe you could spot his feelings.

You tried to stir to wake up but unfortunately mydei took you against your own will, now you are forced to marry your previous soon to be husband's best friend.

DILUC

Your fiance originally was against on inviting diluc to the celebration, not because of the relationship you and him had with the master of dawn winery but because he gets a bad feeling with the Ragnvindr young master. But after some convincing, he finally budge and agreed to invite you but... As long as you are not alone with the young master.

Diluc and you used to be engaged with each other, and were planning on marrying each other until the death of his father and kaeya betrayal. His decision of breaking all contact with you, to go and investigate for his father's death broke what's left of you and him. He was gone for years and then came back, stronger and with a cold personality. Diluc found out about your engagement through kaeya who was thinking of not telling him afraid of the conflict he might, but I guess during his drunken banter he slipped it out. Diluc dropped the glass and he was wiping shattering it into pieces of the floor. After his departure, your family plans another engagement to fill his absence and right now you are preparing everything.

You and your beloved planned that the wedding should take place near the beach. During the day of your wedding, the abyss suddenly attacks leaving you as the survivor while your fiance is dead. Laying on the cold hard ground bleeding with gash wounds due to the abyss mages attacks, the knights arrived too late and witnessed the aftermath of who originally was supposed to be a happy day. When you look up, you see a figure wearing a cloak nearby over looking at the disaster as if it's all according to plan.

During the next few days you lock yourself in your house, with only kaeya coming in to bring food cause as your best friend it's his responsibility to take care of you during your lowest. He wasn't present at the wedding because he was busy with duties from jean to fill the absence of the grandmaster, it seems jean was blaming herself as well because if she didn't send kaeya to send those errands your fiance might be alive–but you reassured her that it's fine.

Until one day diluc arrived at your door and embraced you as a way to comfort you. With his help as well as the others, you slowly recovered as well as rekindled old feelings with diluc. Honestly he pities you, diluc did love you and he was stupid for breaking things off not to mention him having to kill your old fiance. Diluc was the one that planted the device to attract the abyss causing the ceremony to be invaded by the abyss and having to kill your fiance's death, how was he supposed to do–you were gonna stray from him and he couldn't handle it. He is a selfish man.

FLINS

You grow up believing that everything was perfect, you are now planning on getting married with the love of your life. One day, you met a gentleman named Flins–He saved you from the wild hunt monsters that's been roaming around. There always seems to be more than meets the eye towards this man, but you have to admit–you enjoy his presence. You and him naturally get along due to shared hobbies of collecting, he seems to know a lot about you but you rarely know about him.

You and him shared stories about each other as well as famous mythology, he's personal favorite was the story about a fae king. He was explaining that guy as if he knows him on a personal level, as well as adding some details about the fae king. It's a good thing you don't believe in stories such like that, which honestly gives Flins a chuckle and he asks you what you would do if you came across the fae king and then proceeded to caresses your cheek.
