One Blue Trainer's Fumbling Journey to the Top

I always feel bad for the 3rd starter. What does it do all day after its friends leave?

Canthro was actually the name of my Squirtle in the first Pokemon game I played (LeafGreen) so I really wanted to use it again here. No real meaning to it, it was just a random string of letters. I’m quite proud that I managed to put some thought behind it here. 

The rules will be outlined later in-story. Just one thing you should note right now: Pokemon won’t die in this comic, just become hospitalized. I never understood how Pokeon battling could continue as a sport if there really was that high a mortality rate.

A little about Maple:

As you can see we have a rather reluctant heroine. I thought it would be a fun idea to have a trainer who never learned more than the basics about Pokemon for this adventure. It’s a tribute of sorts to our first play-throughs of Pokemon games. Her design is a combination of the FireRed/LeafGreen protagonists. Since the first games don’t have the choice for a female protagonist I thought it would be fitting to have elements of the male character in the design.

A little about me:

The first Pokemon game I ever played was a borrowed copy of Leaf Green. I never did beat the Champion in that game. A few years later I borrowed Heart Gold. I beat Johto there but barely even started Kanto. Finally I bought Y and have beaten that one completely. So now it’s time to go back to the beginning and see if I can do better this time than I did in Leaf Green.
