One of the moms in my class basically gave me an amazing self care day in Carmel. 3 hours at a spa and a very nice gift card to a restaurant there. I don’t even care if Carmel is 90 minutes away I am shlepping myself there this summer and having meeself a little indulgent me day! I’ll probably take my family and they can go to the beach while I’m at the spa. I’ll take them to the restaurant I GUESS. If they’re good.
I don’t mean to freak anybody out here, but what is it with second born daughters and why are they the devil incarnate?
I definitely woke up at 5 with the start of a super hangover and the panicked thought of “oh no I drunkenly posted on tumblr!” But then I remembered that tumblr is a Safe Place and went back to sleep.
But whew that hangover. A good reminder why I don’t usually drink! And oh god, with children around. Torture.
Went to my SIL wedding. It was a GREAT wedding. However. Our wedding, 12 years later, was still better. But it was still a wonderful day evening and I am very drunk.
But isn’t it nice ? To be still very much a n live with my partner 21 years after we got together and be in a hotel room tipsy with our children? This is wonderful.

Dirty Hair, Don’t Care Chronicles vol. 3
I’m on day 3 hair today and I should probably wash my hair tonight? But tomorrow I’m going on the kindergarten field trip to the aquarium and I don’t want to waste day 1 hair on that! So she’s going to go for it! Day 4 hair! Maybe I’ll wear a ball cap.
Also props to y’all who go 4-5 days regularly. It’s been a journey for me to get to 3 days but it’s been life changing. #dryshampooismyboo

The liquid iv product placement in off campus is so off putting. I just watched one of the characters’s come up to the main character and pour a liquid iv into his glass of water at a bar, and I’m immediately out of it.
It’s officially “throw a bagged salad in your bag” season for me as a teacher. It slowly will devolve into like, a sleeve of crackers and salami and maybe some carrots if I’m lucky. Million days of May and whatnot.
My husband to the kids this morning when he told them we couldn’t buy them more books at the book fair: “mom is getting her Botox this weekend, which is $500.”
Me: 😬 “…actually, it’s more like…”
Him: “oh I know. I’m just making a point.”
At this point I can’t go back! It’s a medical necessity!!
Also I had a journey to nowhere with resetting my watch this morning and I had to add cellular but now it’s like, cool you’ve added two new watches to your plan and I’m like, no! Same stupid old watch that I had to reset after the stupid update! These little modern conveniences that make me want to pull my hair out! And I’m extra upsetty because I took a ride this morning and it didn’t record on my watch and that’s one of the only gd reasons why I work out! To close that stupid ring!

How much do you dare me to respond “it ass nice?”
I just got back from a wonderful PD in Boston! I haven’t been sent to a PD out of state in over a decade and I really wanted to go to this one and it was so reinvigorating and made me excited for next school year. And Boston, though I merely saw it through an uber, was lovely! I rarely go to the east coast, it’s so quaint! I didn’t get to go anywhere or eat anything so some day I will have to go back.
However I traveled from coast to coast and attended a very busy pd in 72 hours and I am dying today. And my husband had a man cold back home and was being so incompetent and I was so frustrated with him. How come I gotta take care of you all when I am across the fucking country? Maybe he would have been better if he was feeling well but he’s going on his east coast work trip in a month and I guarantee you if I have the flu while he is gone, I will not have to call him for help one single gd time.
After getting a hair cut, buying a child birthday present and 10 teacher appreciation day presents, getting weekly groceries and gas, I’ve spent nearly $1000 before 12pm today! Lovely!
So R is home sick with a surprise stomach bug that’s keeping her energy normal but taking her out on both ends. This is absolutely the worst time for me to get a stomach bug so naturally, Oprah shrug, I’ll probably get it as well. And I’m hungry but I’m so terrified of puking so I’m just not eating or only eating things that might taste ok coming back up. Is that disgusting? Probably but I have to be practical.
If anyone has any tips on teaching their young children on how to easily and successfully make emergency calls please send them my way, because my future, if left in at least one of my children’s hands, is not looking too optimistic.

Oh god I feel so old and out of the loop for not keeping up with the cultural zeitgeist but what is summer house and why should I care?
I’ve been spending the last 10 minutes of each day practicing tying shoes with my class because it’s spring and they’re almost second graders and hell I know 8th graders who can’t tie shoes! Let’s get these kids trying their own gd shoes! Anyhoo, they are all experiencing varying shades of frustration depending on their progress (which also gives us ample practice with using our growth mindset, etc)
Yesterday one of my boys who frequently reminds us how everything is easy for him and he already knows everything wasn’t practicing and the kids were encouraging him and he said he had “a constitutional right” to not practice and wow. I mean. Sure? But eventually you need to learn to tie your shoes. Let’s save our constitutional rights for perhaps other indignities.
