Day 162 sober, 167 lbs. I've been intestinally ill but hopefully it's passing. Trying to get myself back into being productive because the last month has been anything but. Perhaps the last two, even.
It's been difficult and I've felt lonely. I don't even like to write about it because just reading it feels so pathetic. But, the lack of any family or close friends who stay in my business is foreign to me. Even post family, I've always had close friends. The thing with ex-bff Grace (and just typing the "ex" there bothers me) weighs on me and I miss her, but I also still feel so hurt.
I really need to just start reaching out to more people. I had this great plan to do exactly that, but nothing tempts fate like a plan.
I'm also aware that I'm hypomanic. This is not good when there is a Nintendo Switch, I am learning. Mind you, I've got shiny hunting down to a science, blah blah blah. But, I've always known video games were brain eaters and time sinks. Until now, I'd done well to keep those things out of my life. Now, I just get lost in it. I use it the same way I used alcohol, i.e. to blot out my existence and live in the distraction. To be honest, it's not as satisfying.
Of course, it's the social part of drinking I miss more than anything else. It's always been that way. I love the effect produced by alcohol, but not nearly as much as I just love the bar life. I have got to find satisfying outlets that suit my extroverted nature.
I see people all the time online who are like "what are irl friends?" I shake my head and just chalk it up smugly to gen-z bullshit. Of course they don't have irl friends, of course they have social anxiety (hell, they never practice getting past it!), sick sad world, etc.. But, I find myself having sympathy/empathy for these people now, I mean, more deeply than otherwise. I find it completely insane that I am so alone in the world. I can't wrap my fucking head around it really. I mean, I guess I can... it's just complicated and sad.
And I already know that once I get out and start pushing the buttons and doing the things that I will feel better, and always quicker than I suspect. I'm just in a rut behind the holidays, illness, isolation, stress, and deep disappointments. Once I get some momentum, I'll start to be okay again.
Plus, a lot of that will be fixed because I finally, finally, finally, got health insurance stuff sorted (for the first time in, I don't even know). I anticipate having Vyvanse once my proper coverage kicks in on the first, and that really is a game changer for me. Adderall is just garbage (all of it probably is) and something has got to help me have a tiny bit of control of what I focus on. It's not enough to be amped up if I can't pick the focus of my energy. It's better than nothing, sure, but it's no way to live.
Also, gonna get a neuropsych eval done come April. Doc wanted me to have some testing done behind the head trauma last year (or last last year... well, both, come to think of it (and I am dumber behind it, I know). It will be nice to have some fresh paperwork since my last eval was a decade back. I anticipate my diagnosis remaining unchanged: bipolar 1, adhd, ocpd (probably with sides of depression or anxiety which I don't even bother to think about or even consider mental illness, tbh, so much as just the natural, reasonable, and expected result of living in society today) with the specific test indicating less capable executive function, memory function, and a lower IQ than ten years back. I'm extremely curious to see how my memory is doing, because it's a very real issue and seems to be growing.
And pardon the digression into psycho-babble-bullshit land (altho, if not here on tumblr, then where better?), I don't like to wear mine and find conversations overly devoted to psychology/psychiatry tedious. I also find that people prone to such discussions are often just as prone to using their conditions to excuse rather than explain. I digress, I just don't like to see people accept things about themselves that lead them not to try to overcome the thing so much as expect accommodation for their deficit. But, I'm kinda old school in that outlook. I believe coping is art, and it's a skill you have to practice.
Anyway, this one got away from me, but I've had a lot on my mind for a while now and I guess I just... needed to write something.
Oh, I got sidetracked, but wanted to add that I think Covid has kept me sober. Cause if that shit weren't every-damned-where at the moment, I think I'dda gave in and went to the bar. There have been many days lately where I've thought "well, if this is the sober life, you can keep it." I know that's wrong-headed, but that's also The Cycle. I hate to close n such an awful note, but it's true. I'm just lonely and it feels like... like... like what the fuck--or more specifically--who the fuck am I even living for? My late great-aunt said to me once when I was young that too much time alone isn't good for anyone. It's true.
But, enough bullshit. Time to get to work and handle some chores and get myself together for the day. A plan without action is just a wish, after all.
