pride month is almost over I would just like to say happy pride to boring LGBTQ people in particular. everyone expects us to be brilliant creatives and scientists and interior decorators and quirky professors and tortured artists but some of us wear nothing but Kirkland Signature clothing and watch Friends and The Office and are incapable of having an interesting conversation and that is okay. our diversity is our strength.

how many people on this website like actually absorb the fact that race is a social construct? that race is indeed assigned at birth and reinforced socially through an entire lifetime? that race is fluid and racial privilege is granted and taken away arbitrarily based on what white supremacist power structures benefit from the most? that racialization is relative and changes over time and space? that there is no genetic evidence that race is biological, that it’s a farce in the same way the idea of biological sex is?

I dislike ideological Puritanism when it comes to online leftist communities and I do not ask all anti-capitalists to agree with me 100%. I believe we all have the betterment of mankind as an end goal and it is better to put aside our ideological differences and work towards that.

we have got to stop acting like we’re better than nature. we drink animal fluids and eat flesh and it’s gross because being alive is gross work and that’s so fine. we’re part of the ecosystem, and this “humans are a disease on earth we shouldn’t be interfering with animals at all” mindset that some people have is so oppositional to all the people who don’t live a first-world type life.

TBH? Most white Europeans who are very loud about hating America/Americans hate America for the wrong reasons. Especially British people but most Western European countries have these types. They’ll be like “You’re all fat, stupid, loud, impolite, annoying, consumerist assholes.” and then stay silent about American imperialism (and/or their country’s imperialism) because it’s ‘not their problem’. They’ll complain about how annoying it is to read post after post by Americans speaking about systemic racism, rising fascism and police brutality/misconduct in America while ignoring the fact many of these issues are occurring in their country too. They’ll make fun of us for having a terrible healthcare system while their government slowly dismantles socialized medicine in their country. I do not agree with veganism as a moral standard. If it is your personal moral stance, that is fine. If you think humans eating meat is inherently immoral, I don’t want to deal with you, you’re hopeless. Vegan ideology behaves more like a sect of evangelical Christianity than a dietary choice.

Veganism is better for the environment, but claiming that it's a morally superior choice ignores cultural and economic factors that make people eat animal products.

It is not inherently better for the environment. That is the thing. When you begin trying to explain that local, sustainably sourced animal protein is better for the environment than imported plant proteins that are farmed 3,500 miles away using slave labor, they start tuning you out. Down is better for the environment than polyester stuffing, leather is better for the environment than pleather. We should work on making animal agricultural practices more sustainable instead of trying to shame everyone into eating plant products that are also farmed unethically and unsustainably.
