i mean i think the majority of people who are neurodivergent and/or depressed have been called lazy all the fucking time because of executive dysfunction and having trouble motivating yourself to do things, but those who call us lazy think we're just doing it on purpose because we just "don't want to". so now that we are more aware of Mental Health, we've accepted that people aren't not doing things on purpose, and now "lazy" has the connotation of intentionally not doing things just out of a lack of care to do the thing.

merriam-webster defines lazy as "disinclined to activity or exertion; not energetic or vigorous", but cambridge and oxford in their learners' dictionaries primarily define it as "not willing to work or use any effort" and "unwilling to work or be active; doing as little as possible" respectively. it seems like the connotation has slowly become the meaning in the ladder cases.
