ANO-3-283: The Lancet is an anomalous species of fish native to The Arcanamare Zone. It bears a close resemblance to predatory ray-finned fishes of the Alepisaurus genus. ANO-3-283 was first discovered in 1968 within a large cave during initial construction of the Profundum Foundation and dismissed as normal Arcanamare fauna. It wasn’t until an incident where multiple Elucidation Corp. employees dropped dead upon accidental contact with the creature was it taken in for containment and study.
Through proper analysis it was discovered that ANO-3-283 lacks most vital organs, possessing only the electric organs used for hunting and detection. It does not require oxygen for survival, has extraordinarily tough skin, is mostly blind, and capable of levitating on land as well as teleportation. This creature kills prey utilising specialised electrical organs composed of cells titled ‘electrocytes’ which are made up of potassium and ion; with over twenty-thousand electrocyte cells being stacked together in these electrical organs. Electricity is continuously produced by the electrocytes, and it completely drains the bioelectricity of all living organisms below 5 tons who come into close contact with ANO-3-283—effectively leaving them brain-dead. It is currently theorised that ANO-3-283uses the stolen bioelectricity to sustain itself. This process of using electrical organs to shock prey items is bizarrely similar to that of Electrophorus electricus, which has perplexed Elucidation scientists for decades. Additionally, if ANO-3-282 is unable to absorb bioelectricity for a prolonged period of time, it will fall onto a flat surface; ceasing all movements and remaining in such a lifeless state until a creature draws too near and allows for ANO-3-283 to resume its rampage.
ANO-3-283 uses a non-lethal electric pulse produced by a secondary electrical organ in order to detect if potential prey is in their vicinity. This pulse disrupts the senses of detected biological organisms, causing blurriness of vision and ear ringing for one or so seconds—acting (likely unintentionally) as a clear indicator of its presence. Evading an attack of ANO-3-283 in the event that it escapes containment is simple—if you position yourself in a spot that is outside the direct path of the creature, the deadly electricity it emits will not be able to reach you. Furthermore, entering a Profundum Foundation storage locker is an effective method of survival, as the barrier put between you and ANO-3-283 is thick enough to prevent brain-death.

Overview
ANO-D-283: Lancet Variants are Anomalous Arcanamare fish closely related to ANO-3-283: The Lancet. They resemble predatory ray-finned fishes of the Alepisaurus genus. Despite their differing appearances, all Lancet Variants locate and kill prey utilising the same method: that of a non-lethal electric pulse to detect their presence, and the creation of electricity from a specialised electrical organ that drains the bioelectricity of prey who come into close contact with it—using what they steal to sustain themselves. All Variants are listed below.
Subject Profile: ANO-3-283-R
ANO-3-283-R: Rosé is a Variant of The Lancet discovered in 1981; named after and distinguished by its bright pink colouration.
ANO-3-283-R is unlike most of its relatives in that its non-lethal prey detection energy pulse does not disrupt the senses of animals in its vicinity, making it particularly dangerous if one has grown accustomed to using that as a warning. However, the screams produced by ANO-3-283-R are significantly louder and more high-pitched than other Lancets, meaning that one will hear it long before it arrives.
Subject Profile: ANO-3-283-C
ANO-3-283-C: Copper is a Variant of The Lancet discovered in 1982; named after its brownish-orange colouration that bears a resemblance to Copper.
ANO-3-283-C is unique in that it appears to be fully aware of whether or not prey is present in the same “room” as itself; and will sweep through the area three times in an attempt to snuff them out. There have been no recorded cases of ANO-3-283-C sweeping through an area more than thrice. Additionally, like most other Lancets, it produces an energy pulse from a secondary electrical organ that disrupts the senses of potential prey.
Subject Profile: ANO-4-283-CR
12/10/2027 EDIT: The information written in this document has been slightly adjusted for the sake of personnel headed down to the Profundum Foundation during its October 2027 site-wide lockdown. Once the breach has been dealt with, these changes will likely be reverted.
ANO-4-283-CR: Cigar is a Variant of The Lancet discovered in 1988; named after the bright green smoke which makes up its fins.
ANO-4-283-CR, despite being the slowest-moving of its family, is unique in that the smoke which surrounds its body causes several ailments to befall the individuals who inhale it; which include: Nausea, headaches, blurriness of vision, ear-ringing, and fainting—potentially increasing the risk of one exiting their hiding spot too early. Should personnel headed down to the Profundum Foundation following the site-side lockdown encounter ANO-4-283-CR, it is recommended to simply hold your breath until the creature has passed; or equip yourself with an Elucidation-issued gas mask. ANO-4-283-CR has distinct vocalisations that are comparable to the rattling of chains and screeching of metal.

ANO-4-283-W: Wraith is a Variant of The Lancet discovered in 1988; named after its somewhat lifeless appearance.
ANO-4-283-W is particularly dangerous as a result of its tremendous speed and how it appears near-silent until in close proximity. The chances of surviving an encounter with ANO-4-283-W drop close to zero once it has reached the location of its prey. Interestingly, the energy pulse created by ANO-4-283-W disrupts the senses for noticeably longer than other Variants—making its presence almost undeniable. In the event that ANO-4-283-Wescapes containment, personnel are advised to evade an attack by immediately seeking out a hiding spot upon confirming its presence; as waiting too long will result in certain death. The sound of low-rumbling can be heard once it has begun the pursuit.

ANO-4-283-WL: Weasel is a Variant of The Lancet discovered in 2008; being the smallest member of its family.
ANO-4-283-WL, unlike other Variants, possesses somewhat advanced eyesight and is capable of pinpointing the exact location of prey once it has gained close proximity—remaining near-silent until food has been perceived. In the event that this creature escapes containment, simply entering a storage locker is an effective method of survival; as it cannot move from its path and will simply pass by even if it has spotted you beforehand. Additionally, ANO-4-283-WL emits the distinct sound of low-rumbling; switching to the typical loud screeching when it is actively pursuing detected prey. Similarly to ANO-3-283-R, ANO-4-283-WL’s non-lethal electrical pulse does not disrupt the senses of biological organisms, meaning one must use their hearing to become aware of its presence.
